NowGamer: Games industry legend Keiji Inafune says that 'making games look a lot better than the previous gen' should not be the focus, as developers should be looking to make new kinds of games.

it's a boost but i think everyone knows it more about the finer things like more people online or more in game characters or more actions etc. Its about the added horsepower that couldn't be done before rather than graphics.

morganfell3960d ago

True but the a problem is publishers rely on advancements that can be put on a poster in a Gamestop window.

Don't misunderstand me, I do not believe there is an excuse not to have cutting edge graphics in a game. In amny case graphics are a major part of gameplay, aprticularly when rendering environments. But that winds up being the area that recieves the most focus but it isn't what holds a gamer to a title over time.

I am currently going back through The Last of Us on Survivor mode. The game is drop dead gorgeous. But what gets me to hit Reload Encounter to fight a group of Hunters isn't eye candy, its the AI. Can't put that on a poster.

Next gen is also about changing or adding to how we interface with the game world and with one another. You can add how the game world interfaces with our normal lives.

It's more than what happens in the game but it is also what happens around the game.

The PS4 share and the take control aspect along with True Name share are just a few innovations to which I am looking forward.

They need to focus on these three things that seemed watered down this gen. Gameplay, A.I, Physics. a bonus would be music, because I haven't really heard many memorable gaming soundtracks this "gen".

This gets said every generation. The natural progression of videogames relies on both graphics and gameplay.

Polysix3960d ago

Definitely. With graphics improving (more specifically ALL the tech improving including ram/cpu for AI and bigger worlds) we'd be stuck with the status quo.

We we always wanted better tech and better graphics, it's not 'bad' to want that, it's not dirty wanting games to look less like cartoons considering how serious some of their stories are now getting.

InTheLab3960d ago

There is nothing wrong with the advancement of technology. I don't understand why these devs/producers can't make create new games while pushing the tech.

I don't pay $400 to $500 hundred for a new console that will never reach it's full potential...

PsychOff3960d ago (Edited 3960d ago )

Of course to an extent that is true but if that was the actual case we would all still be playing 8 bit Atari like games.

NihonjinChick3960d ago (Edited 3960d ago )

But more than graphics improved.

Compare the Atari to the NES. NES games looked better, by they also had better content and gameplay.

That's what he is saying. More than graphics need to improve next gen.

Polysix3960d ago (Edited 3960d ago )

"More than graphics need to improve next gen."

Yes, but we all knew this anyway, we didn't need him to tell us. If only graphics improve that's not gamers saying they ONLY want good graphics that's developers not thinking outside the box.

This article should have been an internal memo among developers - it's nothing we don't already know/want.

Keiji Inafune's Latest Mobile Game Will Shut Down After Less than a Year of Life

The former Mega Man producer's latest game, Dragon & Colonies, is going to dragon heaven.

mrmikew20181586d ago

Another failure from this whiny clown, I wonder what his excuse will be now?

Chaos_Order1585d ago

Probably that "The mobile gaming landscape is cruel and ruthless and something needs to be done!" when not long ago he would've been thinking "the mobile game market is so massive, we'll make Megabucks!"

xX1NORM1Xx1585d ago

I kinda feel bad for him at this point but he did bring it on himself with mighty number 9.

PhoenixUp1585d ago

Seems everything he touches since he left Capcom becomes filled with misfortune.

- Started work on a 3DS game called Kaio: King of Pirates that later got canceled
- Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z was a disappointing game that all but killed the Ninja Gaiden franchise
- Mighty No.9 failed to live up to the grand expectations set for it
- ReCore was very below average title that didn’t leave much of an impression
- Red Ash has fallen off the radar and the public hasn’t heard anything about its progression

All these flops from the same man who dissed Japanese developers a decade ago. He even defended Phil Fish’s harsh criticism of Japanese devs yet Inafune himself has hasn’t had any critical hits of his own since leaving Capcom.

Chaos_Order1585d ago

The "creator" *coughs violently* of Mega Man sure can't catch a break, can he?

Chaos_Order1584d ago

Which is exactly why I put the word "creator" in quotes and added *coughs violently* after it, because he has been called the creator of Mega Man many times in the past despite it not being accurate. -_- Pardon my immense subtlety.

Wasabi1583d ago

@MrSwank

**"he didnt create mega man"***

I think that was his point.

Hint: "coughs violently"

Where Are They Now? – Keiji Inafune

Keiji Inafune was once a legendary and iconic game developer, but after the disaster of Mighty No. 9 and the failure of Red Ash, he's disappeared.

garyanderson2535d ago

Hiding under a rock, no doubt.

SaveFerris2535d ago

Hanging out with Sean Murray?

Last_Boss2535d ago

Inafune fucked up bad on a whole other level.

CrimsonWing692535d ago

I lost so much respect for this guy. I am still bitter over Mighty No. 9 and not getting the backer rewards as promised. All I've gotten was what was promised in the lowest tier with a t shirt and a dumb plushie.

DJ2534d ago

Have you guys seen the latest comments on the MN9 Kickstarter page? Lots of backers still haven't gotten their rewards.

https://www.kickstarter.com...

CrimsonWing692534d ago

yea I'm in that tier and it doesn't look like we will get them. Honestly I quit doing Kickstarters because of this game. A "signature edition" came out at retail for $60 (I think). I did one of those upper tier backings with a reward of a cartridge, art book, and all kinds of stuff.

Yea all I got was a digital code for the game, a DLC skin for the wrong platform, a t-shirt, and a plushie...
