Sony 'investigating' PS3 firmware 4.45 issues, update taken offline

Sony has taken PS3's 4.45 firmware update offline while it investigates the reasons why it's causing some users' consoles to brick.

I still haven't done the last 5 updates on my ps3 will need to have a day where I update it all when this is back online.

My friends phat bricked install it but my other mates slim is fine.

Some are saying it's down to size of drives in consoles. 500Gb are the ones having so called problems.

I have a Slim and I updated it to a 500GB last year, PS+ automatically downloaded the new firmware when I wasn't looking >_<
luckily though I've just checked my PS3 and had no problems.

So does 'bricked' means your console is bin fodder outside of warranty?

Can a 'bricked' PS3 be fixed, can another update fix it, or are users completely screwed??

I have PS3/500GB HDD and have never suffered with this, nobody I know has either...except on forums, so excuse my ignorance on the matter.

I have PS+ and set to auto between 8-10am BST/GMT/UK, yet my Firmware still reads 4.41, so I'm lucky it didn't hit me prior to removal.

Awesome info on the time of your auto update but put a time zone. Im kind of nervous to turn my ps3 on which I havent touched in 2 days but my autoupdate is at 4am pst I hope it didnt download and install it before sony took it down : /

Auto update just downloads the firmware. You have to manually 'install' it.

Mines is o.k and i've got a 500gig with ps+ so I got update automatic. I wonder how many of these people brought the last of us and this morning found out there PS3 are bricked, I'd be well pissed.

I'm just curious/worried when it comes to the PS4s automatic updates for Everyone. I'm sure you can turn it off, but even still.

My 500gb been acting really weird lately. It doesn't tell me the right amount of gb I got left and my games like GOW Ascension and Last of Us keep having sound problems. I didn't get the update when I got off Last of Us I guess they pulled it off before I could update. I'm scared it might be the Last of my PS3.

That's normal these things happens to me before the update god of war ascension has a couple sound hitches during cut scenes nothing gamebreaking tho do you have A 7200 rpm hdd in your ps3 because from my experience they can give errors every now and then 5200rpm runs better imo even though I still have A 7200 rpm I'm my ps3 lol too lazy to swap it out

I also have a slim and my friend has a slim with a bigger hard drive he installed. We both downloaded the update and mine was fine then I hear in the next room him yell, and then hear a smashing sound as he tried to implant his slim into the drywall.

I have a phat 500GB and installed 4.45 last night without a problem. I got lucky i guess but feel really bad for the ones that got their console bricked. I hope Sony finds a firmware solution to unbrick those. It would totally suck if they make people pay to have it serviced.

Just noticed now too that the entire PSN is down though. Maybe there is even more going on than just the buggy firmware....
