Gears of War is one of the most overrated games I've ever played.

It was actually the 2nd or 3rd I played and it was brown + light brown + 2 other shades of brown + grey and a splash of color everywhere.

It was fun for like 10 minutes then just got old.

I'm not against games like this but it's shinning example of what we don't need more of in the industry.

Gears is not overrated. It has its problems, especially a lot with multiplayer, but the campaign modes are always good (can't comment on Judgment, which I hear isn't exactly great) with worthy AI and well designed levels.

Gears 1 was great Gears 2 was dreadful at least now it is , its aged rather poorly, Gears 3 was a very good game and Judgement is just meh, Not an overrated series but its definitely not as hot as it used to be.

Gears 1 multiplayer was one of the most competitive and addicting experiences this generation. Gears 2 and 3 never met those expectations, but the original was a godsend of competitive online.

Don't really want to see gears on PS4, it's no where near being a classic franchise other than it had some amazing graphics, that's all. It would be nice to see something really different from Gears Of War from Epic.

It is very hard to pitch a new IP to company especially coming off a huge, successful IP like Gears. Most companies want to strike while the iron is hot.

I definitely believe Cliff as most producers in the industry always want to make something new.

Before Gears was Unreal Tournament though. Far more recognized than Gears at the time. So, it's not really that difficult. Just depends on the timing.

Again, true. But then look at how many Unreal(s) there were before Gears even came out.

Cliff was also the producer/designer for Unreal so you have to imagine how long it took him to get the green light for Gears.

And if I am not mistaken I thought I read that Gears was suppose to be another Unreal spin off type of game.

I suppose it's different from developer to developer. I mean, Naughty Dog for example aren't afraid to make both sequels and new IP's in the same generation. I suppose it also depends on how big the developer is too.

It is definitely different from dev to dev. But as you said, ND had to turn out 3 Uncharted (plus a Vita version) before they could turn all their attention to the Last of Us.

Cliff had to make three Gears (or two ??) before Bulletstorm could be fully worked on and completed.

Let's hope this new generation takes more risks and gives us new IP's that are on par or even exceeds games like Uncharted and Gears.

Epic is more a engine developer than a game developer. Despite their size, and the amount of money they have, they aren't working on several titles at a time. Typically their games are made to showcase the engine(Unreal Tournament in particular).

They do make games of course, but it isn't anywhere close to the efforts they put into their engine.

I'm personally kind of disappointed they focused so much on Gears this gen. They have some creative devs there, but I understand their reasons for doing so. It's hard to give up practically free money, and they are no more guilty of milking a franchise than any other dev this gen.

Gears 3 probably had the best multiplayer out of the series though.

My second comment was that Sony allows for new IPs on THEIR CURRENT CONSOLE even at the end of its life.

The PS4 will have new IPs, during E3 Sony didn't show all their first party companies.

Gears 1 was a massive hit of course Epic and Microsoft are going to want to pump out sequel after sequel. Look what Microsoft did to Bungie after Halo CE. Had Microsoft gave them some creative freedom Bungie would possibly of stayed with them and Destiny could of been a huge Exclusive franchise for Microsoft.
