PlayStation Camera to use Dedicated Port on PS4, Won’t Take up Precious USB Port

With the PlayStation 4 only sporting two USB ports, many didn’t want to get a PlayStation Camera (the new name for the PS4eye) simply because it would leave you with one port. - PSLS

Yes! Yeah, I didn't want to use up half my slots.

that is what that USB looking port is for on the back.

Good to know.

As far as ports go on the front, i imagine Sony will release a hub accessory to add more. They have one already that works with the PS3. it's round though, I'd want one that matched the style of the PS4 but round would work too.

Yup, the port at the back. They call it an AUX port I believe.

And yes, hopefully they release a hub or at-least allow 3rd party hubs like PS3.

Precious USB Ports, they are like gold

thehitman3960d ago

Sad but true I hated when Sony went from 4 usb ports to 2 usb ports on newer ps3 models. I had to buy a usb splitter and I was using 4 ports on my ps3. Sometimes I had my keyboard/mouse 1-2 controllers usb and headset. Not sure how you can do all of that w/ 2 usb ports.

Yea I had a fat PS3 that died, and then got a slimmer one, so I know first hand what it's like to lose those USB ports :-(

thehitman3960d ago

Same my original 60gig from launch died when I got KZ3 I started doing the motherboard trick but after 2-3 times of fixing the YLOD I had to bury it and get a slim.

I had a phat PS3 and I thought 4 was not needed dude, not trying to catch you out or anything but I have my PS3 (now slim) camera plugged in all the time and the other slot for my charger, I simply take the charger out when I plug in my GT wheel, its no biggy. To keep the cost down I think 95% of gamers are happy with 2 slots, just my opinion though. What did you use your 4 slots for on the phat ps3. Like I said not having a go or anything just wondering.

@sprinterboy

There are a large arrange of devices that you can plug into the PS3's usb port that might be hindered with only two. For you this wasnt a problem, but for some it is. To name a couple:
Mouse
Keyboard
Headset
Camera
Memory Stick

Most critically, I believe, are third-party controllers. Some cheaper PS3 controller altertives are wired and need to take up a usb slot at all times to function. If you need a backup controller incase a friend wants to play sometimes people opt to buy the significantly cheaper wired versions from a perpherial brand like Nyko rather than the more expensive official product.

Though I agree that inorder to keep cost low I'm fine with having only two. There are some fairly cheap accessories that you can buy for the consoles, typically, that will provide you with additional USB slots. Its probably cheaper buying a 10-15 dollar usb expansion peripheral then having to pay for those extra usb slots in the console.
