While the US press release for the PlayStation 4 mentioned details about games, used games and pricing, it did not confirm all of the specs for the console.

Wooooooow. So a PS4 + camera combo is still cheaper than an Xbox One.

Starbucks_Fan3969d ago (Edited 3969d ago )

Yep. Didn't realize it wasn't included before I preordered it but oh well. Not like I need it for Killzone and Battlefield

Oh and it's cheaper than when the first KInect came out. Crazy.

darthv723969d ago

they will do a bundle for $450 that includes the camera. That is a savings of $10 from buying them individually. Im for that but if not...i will get the camera by itself.

@jc485... but there is a benefit to the consumer if they did make it part of the complete package. Not mandatory to use but if one came with each ps4 it would mean that everyone who buys a ps4 gets one and devs would know that and use it if they saw the opportunity.

BattleAxe3969d ago

If the PS Eye is compatible, I will just use that device, but I rarely use it anyway unless I'm video chatting with friends, but even then, you can still just use your headset anyway.

abzdine3969d ago

i will buy a PS4 for myself and ask for the PS4Eye as a present :)

jc485733969d ago

I don't think the EYE is a mandatory gimmick like the Kinect.

koolaid2513969d ago

The Kinect is far more superior in tech than the ps eye/move combo.

Sephiroushin3969d ago

@Koolaid251
So what?
It can be 20 years ahead of tech (which is not just and exagerated example), cost a million of USD and it does not change the fact that its a gimmick

TruthbeTold3969d ago

To me it's not about whether or not it's a gimmick. It's about choice. The choice of not paying to have a camera in your home that you may find out 5 years later that is being used by governments or has been hacked by 3rd parties even though they claimed otherwise. And MS does not allow the choice of buying their gaming console without a high quality camera/microphone combo, integral to the system. Deal breaker for me. Period.

badz1493969d ago

you hear that M$? "ADD"! "ON"!

THAT's how you do things! not slap it as mandatory and then price your "lower-than-PS4" spec cable box a whooping 100 quid more!

if you really love the thing so much to make it mandatory, why not integrate it INSIDE the box in the first place? ironic that your slogan is "all in ONE, input ONE" when the device itself is a TWO!

Cam9773969d ago (Edited 3969d ago )

It's 100 bucks more, not 100 quid. So 60-80 quid more.

badz1493969d ago

ah...my bad! you're right!

krazykombatant3969d ago

@Cam if you exchange the currency nrate its $160 more here jn the UK.

miDnIghtEr20C_SfF3969d ago

Ya, I'd guess it doesn't come close to doing what the Kinect 2 does though.

CandyCaptain3969d ago

Do you want it to? Honest question...

miDnIghtEr20C_SfF3969d ago

No, I only have enough money to buy them both with only one of them doing what Kinect does. It's going to be the best gen of them all yet for games.

rainslacker3969d ago

Yeah....you're probably right. Thank god we don't have to actually have it then, because it sounds like a piece of junk. I'll take a $100 savings over a camera any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

Azrabain3969d ago

IF I was Sony I would release a bunde at $499 that included the camera and a 1 year playstation plus membership that would kick ass!

Thomaticus3969d ago (Edited 3969d ago )

The best thing is to leave it at 399 and find a game to bundle the camera with. Like how the wiimote was bundled with Wii Play. It's just great advertisement for The PS4 to have that 100 dollars less price tag. They can pack the camera in next year.

Thomaticus3969d ago

I was completely prepared to pay 500...... Sony just saved me money...WTF?!!

sync903969d ago (Edited 3969d ago )

Or another 100 to spend on games. ;)

Snookies123969d ago (Edited 3969d ago )

Yeah, definitely glad we don't HAVE to have it or anything. Although I probably will get one anyway at some point.

DivineAssault 3969d ago (Edited 3969d ago )

NOT BAD! I think ill buy the PS4 eye if an eye of judgement comes out for PS4.. I wonder if i can swap HDDs like on PS3.. Anyway, hows the battery life on the dual shock? & it seems as if i can still use my pulse headphones with this so im good! Damn im so effin excited!!!

U can get the PS4 & the camera cheaper than xbox one.. PS4 comes with a mono headset too, i dont think M$ is including one... None of the 360 accessories (including headsets/headphones) will be compatible lol..

a_bro3969d ago

Eyedentify.... Wanna see that game come back from the grave.

project_pat363969d ago

or a upgraded version of the video recording app "PSEye"

CandyCaptain3969d ago

They better allow me to swap it out, I have one twice as big in my ps3. <.<'

DivineAssault 3969d ago

I thought the PS3 wont read anything higher than 750GB.. I only have a 500GB in mine & still have about 100GB left in it.. The 500 that comes with PS4 should be just fine for a long time.. U dont have to install everything like xbox one so it should last..

The wii u deluxe is $350 with only 32GB of storage lol.. PS4 took a poo on every competitor there is.. Its going to be a hot item this holiday for sure being that its only $400... I already payed one off & ima go deposit $50 on another later today if i get a chance to sell later or help out a friend in need

Virtual_Reality3969d ago (Edited 3969d ago )

The light bar of the DS4 controller, might not be used at all from many knowing the PS4 Eye is not included in the bundle.

Jeff2573969d ago

I expect their will be some games in the future that will either use it for something or have it as an added option. One of the cooler aspects they mentioned back in Feb was how the PS4 could track the position of a controller and change the split screen orientation. Anyway it is nice that it is optional and also not expensive either.

Geezus3969d ago (Edited 3969d ago )

Yeah im wondering what its for now maybe they scrapped an included camera to get it at a cheaper price point than the one or is the light bar just to differentiate between multiple players when gaming on the same console...

killalot1003969d ago

I was wondering this too. Was kinda hoping they would of included it but no big deal.

farhad2k83969d ago

The light bar doesn't require the camera.
It will still be in use. They didn't have a camera at E3 yet everyone that had a Dualshock 4 in their hand still had a light bar.

Drekken3969d ago

The lightbar on the DS4 is seen by the camera and functions like the move did. You can't use the controllers feature without the camera.

PlayStation Doesn't Need a Dedicated PC Store Launcher

With all the PlayStation games that are now coming to PC, is it time for Sony to release a dedicated PC launcher?

thorstein2d ago

No, and they already solved any need with the overlay that's coming.

Vits2d ago

Unless they are trying to kill their recently created PC business, I would advise against opening a dedicated PC store. It's an extremely hard endeavor, and people, in general, are very comfortable with Steam. Even Epic, with their billions of dollars invested, is still struggling to find a foothold, and they have Fortnite.

just_looken1d 15h ago (Edited 1d 15h ago )

Money is one thing security is another but again millions have 0 knowledge past 2020.

Epic store for years struggled with a shopping cart/account theft/credit card theft

Rockstar launcher/store to this day over 5 years later still has horrific user interface security flaws lost account's and stolen CC

Then you got that activision need phone number oh we lost it launcher

The crown jewel is the ea launcher/store ea app 3 yrs old still has hundreds of threads were people lost games/accounts/game access or just straight up crashes.

Edit" Oh ubi launcher were you buy a game that may or may not be there again or work and the launcher 5yrs old still has no 4K support if you launch it on a 4k screen there is a high chance it will just crash.

ocelot072d ago

Can tell who ever put this together is not all that clued up on pc gaming.

It's just a known fact. The PC gaming community prefer Steam and Steam alone. They don't like different launchers. I personally don't mind them. But majority just stick with steam. Hence why EA and Ubisoft went back to on releasing on steam and why Microsoft release games on steam as people hated buying from the windows store.

The only other launchers that I imagine are doing ok is GOG due to being drm free and epic games due to the free games every week. Sony shouldn't release any sort of pc launcher n

Nitrowolf22d ago (Edited 2d ago )

It literally says in the OP that PC gamers don't like multiple launchers lol. It even mentions Steam being the go to for gamers

Tacoboto2d ago

Title: "PlayStation Doesn't Need a Dedicated PC Store Launcher"

N4G: "Can tell who ever put this together is not all that clued up on pc gaming"

When you don't even read the headline...

ocelot072d ago

I read it and had a brain fart. As read the title then this "With all the PlayStation games that are now coming to PC, is it time for Sony to release a dedicated PC launcher?"

So I hold my hands up on that mistake. Rest of my comment still stands.

Giblet_Head1d 15h ago (Edited 1d 15h ago )

Steam and GOG are highly preferred because of the rich feature set. Ubisoft, Rockstar, EA, Epic etc have all set a precedent over the years for customers to instinctively expect individual publisher launchers to be so extremely half-assed that the majority simply don't want to bother dealing with what is almost an inevitable disappointment by comparison to Steam or GOG. Those publishers and their inaction or general disinterest to improve have effectively ruined any future adoption to be taken seriously.

Einhander19722d ago (Edited 2d ago )

This is just another ridiculous double standard article.

It's like how Microsoft can spend 20 years of making nothing but gaas and live service style games to sell microtransactions, dlc and subscriptions and get praise for doing it, but if Sony wants to make a single game like that every website under the sun is writing articles saying how Sony is anti-consumer or whatever.

derek1d 22h ago

Yep, huge double standard look at the tortured reaction to the ps5pro, websites hyperventilating like Sony is forcing people to buy it.

just_looken1d 15h ago

Wait my xbox from 2004 has avengers gaas on it? wow your so smart

m$ Gaas started with the other companies like sony

Gamepass yes they are deep into that but its still a huge money saver sense you do not own your games then get a service like that.

Now there pc xbox launcher that is trash for years now

Is Driver (PS1) Still Worth Playing in 2024?

PrimeVinister10d ago

The driving holds up, most of everything else does not.

PrimeVinister10d ago (Edited 10d ago )

@Shane Kim

Well, I mean the driving physics hold up. The draw distance, police AI, visuals in general etc do not

Cacabunga9d ago

One of my all time favorites on PS1. I spent a summer vacation playing this was so good

isarai10d ago

Sadly youd be hard pressed to find any driving game with better physics these days. But the draw distance really kills it for me

PrimeVinister10d ago

The physics hold up ridiculously well. And the draw distance is a real hurdle at first.

__y2jb10d ago (Edited 10d ago )

Nonsense. The physics in any modern game or any 360 game is light years beyond Driver.

Dandizzle10d ago

This game is hard, you will fail and quit

PrimeVinister10d ago

But you will get there eventually... maybe

MatrixxGT10d ago

All in the first two minutes.

jznrpg10d ago

Stop with is it worth it articles. If you want to play a game play the damn game!

anast9d ago

I loved this game awhile back.

Barlos9d ago

Yeah but is it worth reading pointless articles?

__y2jb10d ago

It wasn’t worth playing in the 90’s.

Espangerish10d ago

My thoughts exactly. I bought it at release for full price and got frustrated and bored with it very quickly.

Terry_B12d ago

Well..you can play it completely offline at least ^^

PrimeVinister12d ago

Something we really miss, just turning on the console and having the game start without signing into stuff

Terry_B12d ago

Fully agreed. That and Splitscreen Modes for Racing games.

PrimeVinister12d ago

@Terry_B I miss having people to splitscreen with, but I can't blame anyone for that :-(

Cacabunga12d ago

Not too late.. we can still change that.

PrimeVinister12d ago

@Cacabunga I will let you in, see ya soon compadre :-P

GT7 actually has 4 player splitscreen. Which is wild in this day and age.

TiredGamer11d ago

Good news is that Sony released a final update to Gran Turismo Sport to allow it to function offline. Expecting the same for GT7 at some point in the future.

PrimeVinister11d ago

That is great news, I really liked Sport even if many others did not :-/

Chocoburger12d ago

I'm not big into sim racing, but I got sucked into the hype for this one from magazines back then. I just played arcade mode and that was enough for me to feel like I got my money's worth.

Yeah, it's definitely worth playing today. GT 2 has a few interesting fan made graphical mods when played on an emulator as well.

PrimeVinister12d ago

The arcade mode is underrated, it's a great alternative mode and you can even unlock GT HiFi with it.

Fonsecap12d ago

Cars back then had much more personality then those we see today. Modern cars all about the led lights and the tablet size screens and they all seem alike, back then they could be simpler in design but had tons more personality.

PrimeVinister12d ago

That is something a few people have pointed out - that cars all look the same now. I have to agree that a lot of new vehicles lack personality.

fsfsxii12d ago

You guys are so anti-fun its depressing, like who tf cares about personality of objects like wtf? Just learn to enjoy stuff as is.

PrimeVinister12d ago

It's hardly anti-fun to remark that some objects look nicer than others.

And everyone has their favourite era of cars, I sincerely doubt many will pick the 2020s a few decades from now.

Fonsecap11d ago

Dude, like wft cares about personality of objects? What about art? Paintings are objects and they're considered good or bad if they show or lack personality so I ask, wtf are you talking about? Cars are also considered pieces of art, vintage cars, classic cars, classic bikes and so on. Artists are appreciated by the objects they craft, blacksmiths, painters, engineers, designers, so wtf cares about personality of objects indeed... ( Sorry for my English, it's not my native language)

MrBaskerville11d ago

Talking about cars is fun if you are a car enthusiast. Just saying.

ApocalypseShadow12d ago (Edited 12d ago )

That Corvette Stingray to this day is one of the most ferocious whips ever driven. Overpowered against other cars yes. But to drive it and be that close to losing control, but being in command around those curves, just can't be duplicated.

HiFi mode is also something I miss. There should be a mode in today's GT where it's Mano o Mano and the detail and resolution jump full throttle. In today's games, Max Ray Tracing and lighting and textures to make it look even more real..

PrimeVinister12d ago

A modern HiFi mode would be really cool! It would be really interesting to see how real they could go by stripping it all way back.

And Stingray is a solid choice 👌

TiredGamer11d ago

HiFi mode in GT1 was only a stripped down 60 fps mode for one track. Should have been called "Performance Mode" or "High Frame Rate" mode.

PrimeVinister11d ago

@TiredGamer it was only three tracks, but it was still cool

Petebloodyonion12d ago

Not according to Former Playstation president Jim Ryan for he told Time that he doesn't see why anyone would play old games given the advancements in fidelity achieved today.

https://time.com/4804768/pl...

PrimeVinister12d ago

I don't agree with him, but he had a few good points.
