Watch the Audience Go Crazy When PS4 #NoDRM, No Authentication is Announced

PSLS: I have watched every single E3 press conference since the show began, and not once have I heard a crowd roar and chant like this. This is easily the biggest reaction ever, during the biggest annual event in gaming.

I'd say it's the biggest reaction ever at E3.

ThatCanadianGuy5143970d ago (Edited 3970d ago )

Chants of "Sony! Sony! Sony!" Pretty much sums it up.

MS is going to have a hell of a time going head to head this go around.Launching Same time, PS4 being cheaper.GG Sony.

Thank you for staying true to the customers.

Edit: I would just like to point out to those who saying MS "Redeemed" themselves in other threads. No, they did not.
They did exactly what Gaf leaker Cboat said they would do.Not mention it AT ALL.Just try to sweep it under the rug and hope people forget. Why? Cboat says the DRM is much more restrictive then they've let on so far.I'd link the leak but Gaf is crumbling under this Megaton bitchslap sony just handed out.

WhittO3970d ago (Edited 3970d ago )

^^ ye haha I started laughing at the chanting.

The ps3 outsold xbox 360 as of now and it launched a year later, was harder to develop for, was hundreds of $ more expensive and had barely no online.

Now they are launching around the same time:

-PS4 is more powerful (by quite a margin)
-Allows used games and is DRM FREE
-$100 cheaper
-Launching the same time frame
-Is really easy to develop for and port games to
-has the backing of loads of developers not to mention their own
-new and improved DS4 which puts it past XBOX1 controller

Lets see how they do head to head this time round :P

MysticStrummer3970d ago

Yeah and they were so happy, Jack quickly slipped in the part about paying to play online and just breezed right by it.

But, looking at the value of PS+ it doesn't seem too bad, especially given the no DRM news. I've considered getting PS+ many times but never did. It might make me buy fewer games though, since they could become free eventually.

Dead On Arrival.

aCasualGamer3970d ago

I would like to see the video for when the audience went crazy after the $399 announcement.

--Onilink--3970d ago (Edited 3970d ago )

it was an awesome moment indeed, though just before that I was dying of boredom, the conference itself was pretty bad. Kinda like Ubisoft's. Though unlike Ubi who saved themselves with an amazing demo in the end, Sony did it by viciously beating MS with a stick until there was nothing, lol

edit: and destiny was not the big ending i was expecting. Looks like borderlands+halo, which is definitely not bad, but not very original.

Ill definitely give it to titanfall this time, which i guess ill be playing in my PC

morganfell3970d ago

What is this Mystic, your 4th or 5th Sony article about the possibility that non-Plus members may have a fee? You do not mention anything on topic but rather jump straight to the only negative you can find. Seems to me your motivations are fairly clear. All one need do is look at your post history and reasons are rapidly clarified.

MysticStrummer3970d ago (Edited 3970d ago )

@morganfell - If you looked at my post history, you'd see I'm a Sony only gamer and have been since PS1. The announcement about paying to play online was simply the low point of the show for me. I'd still say Sony spanked MS hard.

Did you miss the second part of what I said above? About PS+ being such a value? It seems you did miss that.

Put away your Jump to Conclusions Mat. You'll hurt yourself. ; )

@Melon - I too buy the games I want at release, which is why I've never gotten PS+. Just looking at the math though, price vs what you get, it is a good value. Like I said above though, it may make me wait to see if a game will become free eventually before I buy it.

Ahhh who am I kidding, I'll still just buy the games I want right away. lol

The Great Melon3970d ago (Edited 3970d ago )

@MysticStrummer

I caught that also. I hope they come out later and say that that bullet point was addressing something along the lines of a "complete online experience" rather access to multiplayer. However, I am doubtful of that as they would have emphasized that in the conference as another strength. PS+ has never been such a great value for me because I tend to buy all my games in hard copy form, so free games never really had as much pull for me as others.

On the upside hopefully this means any multiplayer game ever released on Sony console will have online functionality forever whether on Gaikai or disc. I can dream...

darthv723969d ago

officially refute their stance on "its up to the publishers" statement from before?

Meaning that it no longer up to the publishers because sony has killed the idea from all the pressure.

If they still say its up to the publishers then how is this a win? Publishers can still do these measures if they want.

MysticStrummer3969d ago

This is for you, morganfell, and it's the truth.

I've never smiled or laughed at an E3 press conference quite like I smiled and laughed at Sony jabbing MS about DRM. I actually said "Game over!".

The pay to play online thing was a bit of a downer, but overall Sony owned MS tonight.

I cringed when the TV talk started, but it was over quickly and they got back to games.

Nearly perfect, and miles better than what MS has to offer.

shutUpAndTakeMyMoney3970d ago

Ps4!! and the price is right!!!

For Xbone the price is right is just a game show lol

MikeMyers3970d ago

That was the big announcement that will get the most talk. It was a great moment and I would live to have seen Don Mattrick and the boys of their faces. The crowd died down quickly when they announced online play now has to be Playstation Plus.

finbars753970d ago

you dont need to pay online. It says for a better experience ps plus will be the way to go.They never once said you had to pay online. You need to stop jumping the gun on that crap.jack tretton will talk about this tomorrow and im sure it will clear the air on that one.I highly doubt they will charge to play online mark my words.

MysticStrummer3969d ago (Edited 3969d ago )

I hope you're right finbars but I doubt it. Jack said it, and one of the videos they released had it in print on the screen. I'll try to find the link.

Just a screenshot, but...

Anyway I hope you're right and basic online play will still be free.

THE-COMMANDER3970d ago

I agree man, that was Awesome!

Megaton3970d ago

Biggest one I can remember in all my years of watching. They nearly gave him a standing ovation.

badz1493970d ago

and raise the wrestling champion belt LOL that was hillarious!

pompombrum3970d ago

I bet Sony didn't have to pay for those cheers either.

Microsoft's cheerers on the other hand.. were going "Woo" when that Microsoft employee with the smug face was recalled back to the stage.. you can't get more obvious than that for paid cheers.

showtimefolks3970d ago (Edited 3970d ago )

in 23 years of gaming i have never seen people chant a company's name at E3

this is how you stand up for gamers MS. Maybe this is why EA is in bed with MS since sony said no to them for this crap

now MS will advertise the heck out of xbox one so they can sell it to casuals who don't know better, but i wouldn't be surprised if a lot of people go to stores to buy xbox one will be told to buy ps4 instead

service like gamefly and redbox will reach out to their consumers for awareness, and it also helps that ps4 will be $100 cheaper

great job sony 11/10, showed games and discussed actual issues/concerns gamers had

watch the MS conference every one of their execs had that we are better than you look, bunch of morons

i still say phil harrison was sent to ms by sony to destroy the xbox brand and he has been quite successful lol

pompombrum3970d ago (Edited 3970d ago )

Maybe because it's 5am and I haven't gone to bed yet but I never even looked at it this way.. if Sony have made it far easier for retailers like Gamestop and GAME to deal with used PS4 games, they'd have a huge financial motivation to push the PS4 brand especially considering how used game sales makes up a large percentage of their profits. It will be interesting to see how this will effect the console war especially leading up to the winter period.

kaozgamer3970d ago

that was a massive epic moment. sony absolutely NAILED IT!

BladerunnerZX3970d ago (Edited 3970d ago )

I have watched and read about E3 for years. Heck I still have some old DieHard Gamefan issues with E3 coverage.

I cannot remember any E3 announcement having a reaction like Sonys just did.

I am almost shocked at how Sony answered all of the questions that the gaming community and press had about restrictions and their policies for the PS4.

Other than paid online multiplayer (PSplus) Sony nailed it and gave Microsoft a hell of an uppercut and at the same moment gaining incredible support from both the gamers and the gaming community.

Bravo Sony Bravo.

GraveLord3970d ago

Yup. Glad to see Microsoft won't get away with DRM and used games restrictions. People will definitely know about it now.

--Onilink--3970d ago (Edited 3970d ago )

ill put that as 2nd biggest reaction after the twilight princess reveal, people were going crazy that time. And at 3rd the Zelda orchestra

arronax-13969d ago

Anyone remember that guy who said that he was "rarely surprised" by anything until he saw this? He really wasn't lying.

Bethesda Needs to Reduce the Gaps Between New Fallout and Elder Scrolls Releases

Waiting a decade for new instalments in franchises as massive as Fallout and Elder Scrolls feels like a waste.

Microsoft have Obsidian but I feel it's Bethesda who just don't want to play ball as they've always said they want to do it themselves.

Once MS bought Zenimax in 2020 they should have put the Outer Worlds 2 on the back burner, allow Bethesda to finish off its own Space RPG with Starfield (despite totally different tone why have two in your first party portfolio with two developers who's gameplay is a tad similar) and got Obsidian for one of their projects to make a spiritual successor to New Vegas.

When the Elder Scrolls VI is finished Bethesda can then onto the main numbered Fallout 5 themselves.

The Outer Worlds 2 started development in 2019 so putting it on the back burner wouldn't have been the end of the world, they'd have always come back to it once Fallout was done and it would have been nicely spaced out from Starfields release once they had most likely stopped supporting it and all the expansions were released.

If they did this back in 2020 when they bought Zenimax and the game had a good, steady 4 - 5 years development, you might have seen it release in 2025.

We are literally going to be waiting until 2030 at the very earliest for Fallout 5 and all they seem bothered about is pushing Fallout 76.

RaidenBlack9h ago(Edited 9h ago)

Its not just only Todd not playing ball.
Obsidian have made a name for themselves in delivering stellar RPGs, but most famous once have always been sequels/spin-offs to borrowed IPs like KOTOR 2, Neverwinter Nights 2, Fallout: New Vegas, Stick of Truth etc.
Obsidian wants to invest more in their own original IPs like Outer Worlds or Pillars of Eternity with Avowed.
Similar to what Bluepoint & inXile wants to do or Kojima is doing (i.e not involving anymore in Konami's IPs).
So yea, even if New Vegas has the most votes from 3D Fallout fans, Obsidian just wants to do their own thing, like any aspiring dev studio and MS is likely currently respecting that.
But a future Fallout game from Obsidian will surely happen. Founder Feargus Urquhart has already stated an year ago that they're eager to make a new Fallout game with Bethesda, New Vegas 2 or otherwise. Urquhart was the director of the very first 1995's Fallout game after all.
And don't forget Brian Fargo and his studio inXile, as Brian Fargo was the director of Fallout's 1988 predecessor: Wasteland

KyRo5h ago(Edited 5h ago)

Obsidian should take over the FO IP. They're do far better with it than Bethesda who hasn't made a great game for almost 15 years

Duke195h ago(Edited 5h ago)

I disagree. Part of these games is the support for the mod community. If they move to releasing a "next game" every 2 or 3 years, the modding support plummets and the franchises turn into just another run of the mill RPG.

Make the games good enough to withstand the test of time, to keep people coming back to them and expanding on them with mod support.

--Onilink--2h ago(Edited 2h ago)

I dont think anyone is saying they need to come out every 2 years (not to mention almost no game is released that quickly anymore)

By the time Fallout 5 comes out, it will be more than 15 years since Fallout 4 came out (same with ES6 coming out 15 years after Skyrim). Even if you want to use F76 as the metric for the most recent release, that one came out in 2018. It will be a miracle if F5 comes out before 2030

The point is that for a studio that doesnt seem to operate with multiple teams doing several projects at once, that their projects normally take 4-5 years as a minimum, and that now they even added Starfield to the rotation, it becomes a 15+ years waiting period between releases for each series, which doesnt make sense. Imagine that Nintendo only released a mainline Mario or Zelda game every 15 years…

They either need to start developing more than 1 project at a time, let someone else take a crack at one of the IPs or significantly reduce their development times

Duke191h ago(Edited 1h ago)

Why should someone else take a crack at one of the IPs? Look at what happened to Final Fantasy as a recent example - there is pretty clear FF fatigue setting in because they are now pumping out titles in the franchise every few years. Pumping out more games faster doesn't always make a series better.

There are plenty of options to make new games, not just create more titles in the same universe at a faster pace.

mandf2h ago

Yeah I’m going to say it, who cares about the modding community when making a game? Half the time developers only tolerate modders because they fix there game for them.

Skuletor4h ago

Yeah, let's all advocate for smaller gaps between series' releases, then we'll probably get headlines about how the series have dropped in quality and they could have benefited from more time in the oven. Let them cook.

SimpleSlave3h ago

"how the series have dropped in quality and they could have benefited from more time in the oven" So every Bethesda game then? Got it.

Listen, I would agree if this was about From Software or something, but Bethesda?

🤣

C'mon now. What timeline are you from?

Skuletor58m ago

Think about it, they're already bug filled messes on their current schedule, can you imagine how much worse it would be if they rushed things?

Duke191h ago

I mean you aren't wrong. People are going to complain about anything

isarai3h ago

Hows about you focus on quality, just a thought 🤷‍♂️

Sciurus_vulgaris2h ago

Bethesda [or Microsoft] would have to reallocate internal and external studios towards fallout and elder scrolls titles. Bethesda has the issue of developing 2 big IPs that are large RPGs on rotation. If you want more Fallout and Elder Scrolls, development will have to be outsourced.
