It's smarter to have Plus than NOT have Plus. Assuming Sony continues with the Instant Game Collection quality, I will gladly pay for Plus.

When 360 debuted with XBL, it was worth the $$. No one else was offering something of equal value (on consoles at least). Personally, I complain about XBL today because of the lack of value.

It really does suck that you absolutely need Plus to play online (Tretton snuck this in and we need some more clarification), but as far as value goes, I have no issue downing $50. I don't go in thinking "I need this to play online", I continue going in thinking "I am getting free games out of this"

I'm concerned if this will affect the quality of Plus games, if everyone has access to the service. I also hope I can share my Plus to everyone on my system, I don't want to pay twice for my sibling.

I previously stated that I would never pay for a service that restricted me from playing my games online, but then I started playing for Xbox live for my Nephews 360.

I would play for PlayStation plus no matter what, because I get almost 15 games for free, plus the many discounts on games on the PlayStation store. I have a subscription that doesn't end until 2017, plus the extra 3 months that I will get when I pick up The Last of Us.

Most of us are NOT okay with this. I'm not okay with having to pay to play basic online, regardless of the fact I will continue to pay for PS+. It's sh*t and still confusing, cause it hasn't actually been confirmed yet, or has it? It still smells like rumour to me.

BUT at least Sony aren't disgustingly anti-consumer like Microsoft in pretty much every respect. At least they aren't trying to take control of the ownership of your games, at least they aren't requiring you to connect every day to verify your games. At least they aren't forcing you to connect a camera to play your games - which by the way has ensured you're paying more for the console, as it's a requirement.

I'm of two minds about this. Plus as a subcription model is fantastic and well worth the price. I've been extremely happy as a Plus subscriber and had no intention of cancelling anytime soon.

Online play is a different beast. I don't agree for a second that we should be charged extra to play 100% of our titles. I didn't agree whem MS does it and I don't agree with Sony doing it. I think it's something that should be expected with our consoles and its a cash grab. If they wanted to charge for extras, I'm fine with that but basic multiplayer should be free.

At the end of the day it won't impact me. That doesn't make it cool though.

I'm a Plus subscriber so this doesn't effect me at all, but seriously Sony have made a terrible decision to charge for online. It's one of the main reasons people went for Sony over Microsoft this gen. PS Plus is great value but gamers shouldn't be required to pay extra for features of a game that they have already paid for. I feel like devs should start selling single player portions of games separately as a large number of people who aren't willing or able to pay for online are missing out on a massive chunk of the game.

Saying PS Plus is great value doesn't change anything at all. The features of PS Plus such as cloud saves, updates and the instant game collection are all bonuses to the customer. The online multiplayer segment of a game is on the disc and is part of the game you pay for! therefore there shouldn't be a mandatory fee to allow users to access any online features.

I have PS+ and I have had it for awhile. However I am not happy they are putting this restriction on gaming online. Yes we have gotten and will continue to get free games but they need to clarify this a little more. Will we have to have separate Plus on each account or will one account cover them all? I am pretty excited for the SP games but this whole Plus for MP just irritates me.

Just to add at least we still get access to the other media aspects without having to play for Plus. I am happy I can still access netflix and whatever other services they end up including without it being blocked behind a paywall. Also if the fee means we get dedicated servers or a better connection online or somehow it gives us some added bonuses with the Cloud gaming then maybe I will look at it better. Still don't like paying for something that is included in the game at the full retail price though.

IMO It's all about the games, and I really enjoy the MP aspect of games but forcing me to P2Ponline is a complete slap in the face when your use to free. PC Gaming is now the best alternative for Multiplayer Gaming with it's cheap games from Steam and of course no P2P-online. $50 for year, that same $50 can buy me a ton of Steam games during their cheap sales, especially Christmas time.

That being said I'm still getting a PS4 for their great games (offline tho) and of course Wii U for their fun games.

I don't understand many of your vast generalizations. I'm a Sony fan and how am I a hypocrite? I have been a PS Plus member since day 1 and am subscribed until 2015. I never supported the idea of Microsoft charging $60 to play multiplayer. I refused to pay that simply for online especially when there were ads popping up all over the place like Times Square. I will not pay $50 to Sony to simply play online. However, I WILL pay Sony, just as I have since PS Plus inception, for quality titles as a gratuity, cloud saves, yada-yada. My point being, call out those by name who did all the ill will of talking bad to people on Live for paying. Some of us adults simply stated that we did not see the value of paying for online gaming for ourselves. This truly only effects those who never had any interest in PS Plus. I've been playing on PC and Playstation for years, and although I am pleased with everything else that I've seen from Sony so far, I cannot abide their required paid subscription for online multiplayer; it is essentially locking out the other half of the game that I would have already paid full price for when I bought it. I understand the rising costs of server maintenance, but I think the costlier footprint is due to the extra services that extend beyond the online multiplayer- which do not interest me. I feel that they could have just grouped those extra frills into PS+ and left us who just want to play the game online, to access the standard multiplayer without paying. Pissed its required for MP but end of the day its still a better deal than anything xbone is throwing at its customers.

I've been a member off ps+ from the day it came out and I've enjoyed it very much and i <3 the fact i can just carry over my account.

So end off the day it ain't that much off a biggie for people that have already got it. But i see where anyone else is coming from it.

But unlike xbl there is benefits to weight up and it didn't take Sony till a next gen console to award gamers for there custom to start a service like this.

Xbox has only started something similar announced today 2 free games a month and its just back catalog stuff cause they have bugger all to play.

Its not like Im ever going back to standard subscription... But its a bad idea to take basic online play away from customers!

PS4 show was nothing short of amazing. This is litterally the only thing that wasnt good... AND IT IS AWFUL NEWS IF TRUE. As it seems a bit unclear to me wether or not you have to pay to play online, I believe Sony do have to set this straight ASAP as Im sure Im not the only one who is confused.

Now Im going to wait for more games as there seem to me a lot is yet to be revealed.
Also some more PS eye and SKU details would be nice!

Well I thought it was awesome.
Sony did show a strong third party support and had a good variety of games.

Id agree that I thought they would show more exclusives but I know Sony is going to deliver so Im cool for now as GDC and TGS is coming up soon and they might want to have something to show then. ND, Japan studios, MM and a few other studios have yet to show what they are working on.

Sony pushed through a lot of games kept it short and good for the most part with a lenghty trailer or gameplay section every now and then.

but i thought the idea was to not let it happen, cause one thing lead to another right? They just not gonna stop there. They will start adding a little by little so people get used to it.

They were sneaky about it.

This was the plan all along. They introduced + and waited for 15 mil or so users to have it before they demanded it for multiplayer, just to soften the blow.

It did soften the blow, but it sucks hard still.
