Those aren't sales, those are units SHIPPED to stores. We don't know how many actually moved out of the stores yet. We'll know on Wednesday.

Indeed. They have been sent *to* stores. yes but not to the gamers. The sales figures from stores are not yet known, as the data is still being compiled. That data will be released in about 24 hours.

It all depends on what's called the "sellthrough," which means the % of the copies a store actually sells. Two games might both SHIP 100,000 copies, but if one has a bigger sellthrough than the other, it means it sold more copies. Obviously, with such a number, 40% sellthrough would mean 40,000 sales and 75% sellthrough would mean 75,000 sales.

How big was the Valhalla sellthrough? Well, if we end up seeing 65,000 on the Media Create figures, that means 100%. More realistically, we'll see somewhere between 40,000 and 55,000.

Doesn't matter if sell-through is zero, apart from the fact that the stores won't buy any more..

Unsold copies, after a time, can be sent back to the publisher for a partial refund. Moreover, the stores will hesitate to order as many games from that series and/or publisher if the games don't sell up to expectations. That's why the games moving out of the stores is very important.
