The Best Games of the Past Console Generation

With games like Dishonored, Far Cry 3, Tomb Raider, Bioshock Infinite, Metro: Last Light, And up coming titles like Battlefield 4, The Last of Us, and GTA V, I would argue that this current gen just caught fire.

It's true though that all the games you just mentioned, as good as they are, look suboptimal on consoles relative to PCs. (Except for the Last of Us which looks just sick on Ps3!)

If you really really really like shooters I can see your point, those games are all really good. I just hope indie developers and kickstarters can save the other genres that I love.

I'll agree with Bioshock Infinite and Far Cry 3, and Thr Last of Us will likely be one of the best this gen as well. I don't know if i'd call this year one of the best of the generation, but it's hard to say there was a bad year anywhere in there as well.

Going back through MGS4 a 10th time now... I think that is my most played game this generation. It's so perfect in just about every way. There have been quite a few gems though for sure this generation.

I vote Dark Souls and GOW3. Can't wait for DS2, perfect way to end this gen.

nice to see they have mentioned No more heroes, it is really unique game with good story and very memorable boss fights..

my ones would be:

Bioshock infinite, Fatal frame IV, Bayonetta, Vanquish, Child of eden, Shadows of the damned, MGS 4, Batman: Arkham asylum & city, Castle crashers, Mortal Kombat, Madworld, Zelda: skyward sword .. there are some more, I cant remember at the moment :) and gen is not over..

Fatal Frame IV? Controls seemed a bit sluggish to get in to. Was it that good?

it is amazing game, if you liked other main Fatal frame games, u'll like it.. when u get used to controls they arent too bad

I like your list Venox. I actually imported a copy of FF4 (huge FF fan) but also found the controls to be too sluggish for me. Everything else you said I completely agree with. And I must add a glaring omission in the list is Red Dead Redemption. One of the finest games of any console generation.

I'd say the same for omissions of Bioshock, Mass Effect titles and Fallout 3.
