This list missed the right features. Used/Borrowed games restrictions, mandatory install of every game on a non-removable 500GB HD (oh yay, external storage is supported -_-), mandatory Kinect 2 with always listening/watching feature that no one but MS knows what's being seen/heard, online check requirement every 24 hours. That's 4 super awesome features that could have been added to the list as top features.

I mean, who doesn't love giving up consumer rights and possibly having their privacy violated so that they can watch tv and do things a little quicker than they used?

High Five the sky Microsoft, High Five the Sky.

"I mean, who doesn't love giving up consumer rights and possibly having their privacy violated so that they can watch tv and do things a little quicker than they used?"

Why you guys always say stupid stuff like that? No one is violating your privacy. The first Kinect didn't do it and this one won't either. Gamers are always bitching about nothing. Don't like it, don't buy it.

DragonKnight3979d ago

What part of "always on, always listening" and the fact that no one but Microsoft knows the full extent of what Microsoft collects from the Kinect do you not understand? You realize that the Kinect is going to be used to tailor adds to you right? That means it's listening to your conversations, and the system is remembering your habits, to sell stuff to you. There's already one government official from Germany that is calling out Microsoft on the Xbox One's surveillance.

You call it stupid, but you wouldn't be so quick to call it stupid when the U.S. government uses what Microsoft has obtained via the Kinect against you now would you?

The point is, only Microsoft knows the truth. The question you need to be asking is what reason do you have to trust them?

Smh@ dragonknight,

Stop posting the same cr@p in every Xbox1 articles. Please, if you have nothing to add to the subject, just don't open your mouth and let people that genuinely want to hear good opinion pieces related to the topic talk in peace.

Wow, MS have really done a number on you.
It's sad but I don't think you'll ever see sense.

"Kinect Is Spying on You" 936d ago 115 comments

Yep Kinect has been spying on us all this time, really no lie I mean we see all these illegal Kinect videos, Kinect porn, Kinect drug busts, Kinect is sooooo evil, yeah because of course the world is waiting to see all these gamers who model part time in their underwear, right? lol

Now lets say sony has some privacy issues and then you'll note that their tune seems to be its not sony fault even when sony settles.

@GamingWorldPeace: I just did add something to the subject. It's not my fault that you don't like that people are focusing on the monumental negatives of Xbox One and you want to blindly support anti-consumerism, choice, and privacy.

@JokesOnYou: Microsoft loves your name so much. Kinect 1 may not have been "spying" but it was also not a requirement for the basic function of the console the way Kinect 2 is, it was also not always listening the way Kinect 2 is, basically it was inferior to Kinect 2 and not being used for the same reasons Kinect 2 will be used. If you want to ignore that and put your trust in Microsoft, so be it. But you'll only have your own self to blame.

**EDIT** Link 1: That was a B.S. lawsuit and, speaking as a Canadian, our justice system is pathetic. That whole hack fiasco wasn't Sony's fault and everyone except the MS fanboys know it. MS fanboys are blaming the victim for what the hacker did. That's sad, and anyone with common sense would know better.

Link 2: Yep, B.S. move by Sony. No arguments. Difference? You can lie about your information when making a PSN account, you can proxy your IP address, basically their "monitoring" is very limited and can be countered. How are you going to do that with a mandatory device that's in your living room always listening to you?

Link 3: What's funny is that you link to a comment that works against you. Explain why Sony would grant people access to their service if said people are suing them over their service? Plus, the clause is for class action suits, that's it. It doesn't remove your right to sue, and if you do file a class action suit, why do you think you should have the right to use PSN? That'd be retarded of Sony to say "well, they're suing us over PSN issues, so let's let them keep using it anyway."

Try harder.

JokesOnYou3979d ago (Edited 3979d ago )

"Kinect 1 may not have been "spying" but it was also not a requirement for the basic function of the console the way Kinect 2 is, it was also not always listening the way Kinect 2 is"

-oh I see so back then you guys were so sure Kinect was spying on us or just making up random BS, take your pick because in reality it turned out to be nothing but propaganda scare tactics, ***NOW*** I'm suppose to believe Kinect 2.0 is the boogeyman under my bed. lol, really, and what difference does it make if the first Kinect wasn't always on, if it was suppose to be "spy on us" then it would have been done it everytime the millions of people like me turned on their 360 because Kinect turns on at the same time.

"That was a B.S. lawsuit and, speaking as a Canadian, our justice system is pathetic. That whole hack fiasco wasn't Sony's fault"

-Yep and you are being totally objective right?, yet sony settled rather than air out their mistakes. I mean can't you pull of the sony goggles for 1 minute and listen to how completely 1 sided you sound?

"Yep, B.S. move by Sony. No arguments."

-Then right on cue your next line you "argue" why theres a difference of course in favor of sony because of their monitoring is "very limited". I get it, it is but again we all deal with stuff we don't like, most aren't deal breakers but I get the feeling even IF sony has similar privacy concerns in the future(ps4 ps eye) you wont be nearly as vocal.

"Explain why Sony would grant people access to their service if said people are suing them over their service?"
OK the point is they were in trouble so to cover their butt they wanted to lock out ALL possibility of someone who might have future dispute from being able to join with others to sue them, its not illegal but its underhanded because until you have a dispute/problem/get hacked or don't know whats going on you just want to get online/psn, then later if something does happen its too late you waived your right, and the reason most people join class action lawsuit is because it happened to a lot of people but ON YOUR OWN its very daunting/expensive legal process. (this is a common lawyer trick that a lot of companys do when they get sued not just sony) The obvious question is would YOU/n4g be so forgiving when hearing this news if it were about micro, the answer is also obvious.

-Too Easy

DragonKnight3979d ago (Edited 3979d ago )

@JokesOnYou: Lol, you sound like you're crying for Microsoft. Like you have to defend their virgin honor or something.

"-oh I see so back then you guys were so sure Kinect was spying on us or just making up random BS."

Can you be sure that it wasn't?

"and what difference does it make if the first Kinect wasn't always on, if it was suppose to be "spy on us" then it would have been done it everytime the millions of people like me turned on their 360 because Kinect turns on at the same time."

-Two reasons. One, a spy device would be ineffective if it could be turned off by the one it's spying on. Two. Kinect 2 is not just "always on" it's also mandatory to be always connected to the Xbox One. If you have the Kinect disconnected from the Xbox One, the Xbox One won't let you do anything. Now answer this question. If MS aren't trying to spy on anyone, what reason is there to force a mandatory connection of the Kinect and ensure that it is always on? I mean, what if the user doesn't care about waving their arms around to change menus or yell at it to snap to Skype hmmm? Surely MS in their infinite wisdom could conceive of a situation such as this and elect to give users the OPTION of having Kinect 2 connected right? RIGHT?

"yet sony settled rather than air out their mistakes."

-You mean those alleged "mistakes" that were made public well before the trial began? Those same "mistakes" that were thrown out of a U.S. trial? I take it you've never heard of a corporation settling out of court just to be done with an issue right? Please fanboy, anything else?

"I mean can't you pull of the sony goggles for 1 minute and listen to how completely 1 sided you sound?"

-Oh the irony of that statement coming from you.

"-Then right on cue your next line you "argue" why theres a difference of course in favor of sony because of their monitoring is "very limited". I get the feeling even IF sony has similar privacy concerns in the future(ps4 ps eye) you wont be nearly as vocal."

-I wasn't aware you didn't want me to counter your statement. Also, your feeling would be wrong. Too bad for your fanboy agenda that Sony's already been forthcoming about their features. No mandatory online or online checks, all social features are optional, no device that must be connected and on at all times for the PS4 to even function. Those are all facts. Can you say the same for the Xbone?

As to your final paragraph: Firstly, you never answered my question. Secondly, Sony didn't violate anyone's rights to file a class action lawsuit. The ToA states that you can opt out of that clause at any time so long as you understand that doing so also bans you from ever using PSN again. So again, why should Sony allow people who are suing them to use their service? There literally is no violation of rights in that clause. It is an acknowledgement that there will be consequences for a lawsuit, but you still maintain the right to do so. Like you said, it isn't illegal which means there are no violations and anyone using this to attack Sony merely show that they want to be trouble makers and are trolls. Anyone has the right to sue Sony, and if they do so individually they won't be locked out of PSN. But if they do so in a class action suit, then Sony locks them out of PSN. What part of that is unfair to you? Oh I know, the part where you don't get to sue all willy nilly without consequence. Such entitlement.

Try harder.

JokesOnYou3979d ago (Edited 3979d ago )

lol, no tears for Microsoft and nothing against sony just pointing out there are 2 sides to every coin which btw I wouldn't even need to point out in a xbox thread no less if it weren't for the constant trolling, uhm but I digress. I'm not going to continue to go back and forth with you, you know the saying....

"A wise man never argues with fools, because people from a distance can't tell who is who"

So since I've already been foolish enough to think that I could add some balance to the madness. I'll just say that I stand by everything I said in my last post, if you think your last reply holds water then so be it, I guess we just have to agree that we totally disagree on the matter....you Sir may have last word on this one.

"I mean, who doesn't love giving up consumer rights and possibly having their privacy violated so that they can watch tv and do things a little quicker than they used?"

how could you possibly snap skype or other apps with a controller while playing a game faster then with kinect? shows you have no idea what you're talking about. I could be playing a game and say "snap skype" without ever stopping gameplay.
With a controller you'd have to stop playing the game to snap something.

fast Multitasking with kinect is one of the Xbox One's strong points.

And how is 500gb and support for external storage a bad thing? you could hook up a 1TB external hardrive and have 1500GB of space. i don't see a problem there.

Kinect always watching you? I call tinfoil on this one.

Online 24hour check is really stupid I agree with that one but i guess it won't necessary when the disc is in it. If not then Microsoft is abandoning an entire market. They better figure this one out.

optimus3979d ago

I believe you are making stuff up along the way as connecting a 1tb external hardrive has not been confirmed. They can very well stick with their current setup that they have with the 360 and only allow up to a certain size for storage...

they could easily cap it at 16gb so they can constantly sell you their licensed drives... (wouldn't surprise me at this point)...

As for kinect, i would imagine that it would come with the option to turn it off if you have no desire to use voice commands...i currently cover my kinect just on the sheer thought that microsoft "could" be watching, even if they say they are not... I even turn my pc cam around to face the wall if i'm not using it; but that's just me...

On a sidenote- am i the only one that thinks the new kinect looks like Wall-E the robot from pixar's movie?... Not only is it bigger than the current kinect but the eye (lense) is all the way on the left with no use for the rest of it... You would think they would place it in the middle at least...ah well, 2 more weeks before i hand microsoft my divorce papers.

ziggurcat3979d ago

"And how is 500gb and support for external storage a bad thing? you could hook up a 1TB external hardrive and have 1500GB of space. i don't see a problem there."

you're assuming too much.

MS has not given any details as to how the functionality of plugging in an external drive will work. "supported" is a pretty vague term, and it could easily be exactly like the current situation where only 32GB of space is available for you to use.

and it's MS... if they forced people to buy overpriced proprietary HDDs for the X360, and disallowed upgrading your HDD in the Xbone, why would you suddenly be allowed full use of your cheaper 3rd party storage device?

if they allowed full use of an external device, why not, then, have smaller, internal flash memory dedicated only to the OS, and allow you to plug in any storage device to install, and run your games?

DragonKnight3979d ago

"how could you possibly snap skype or other apps with a controller while playing a game faster then with kinect? shows you have no idea what you're talking about. I could be playing a game and say "snap skype" without ever stopping gameplay.
With a controller you'd have to stop playing the game to snap something."

So, because you can "snap" to Skype (which is completely irrelevant btw) you're fine with the Kinect 2 "listening in" on you all the time and never knowing just what Microsoft and their advertising partners know about you? A split second convenience is more important to you? Plus, why the hell would you want to snap to Skype while you're gaming if you can already voice chat IN the game? You're the type of person that likes breaking the immersion?

"fast Multitasking with kinect is one of the Xbox One's strong points."

Pointless multitasking at the expense of choice and possibly privacy. Sure, you don't have to use the conveniences, but you HAVE to have the Kinect connected at ALL times while using the Xbox One and it is ALWAYS listening. What part of that is good exactly?

"And how is 500gb and support for external storage a bad thing? you could hook up a 1TB external hardrive and have 1500GB of space. i don't see a problem there."

Because every game is a mandatory install. With games reaching possibly 20GBs and up, that space will fill up FAST and Microsoft are known for either forcing you to purchase certified and proprietary accessories, or imposing severe restrictions on third party accessories. For example, we don't even know if games will run off the external harddrives yet.

"Kinect always watching you? I call tinfoil on this one."

http://www.vg247.com/2013/0...

Read it and weap. It's always on, always listening, can you say with 100% certain it is also NOT always watching?

"Online 24hour check is really stupid I agree with that one but i guess it won't necessary when the disc is in it."

They are abandoning an entire market. The disc becomes useless right after you install the game. There is no point to keeping it afterward except as a dust collector.

Perjoss3979d ago

Don't feed the troll...

The Xbox One will be a hugely successful console. A handful of negative angry internet people is not going to affect that one bit in the slightest.

DragonKnight3979d ago

A handful?

LMAO! That's funny.

A handful.

Manic20143977d ago

The Kinect feature does not listen or watch you for 24hrs is basically when connected the Phrase "Xbox On" turns on the whole system, there is Voice sensor which is on for 24hrs when plugged in. The Used Game Fee has been said to be inaccurate by Microsoft and many have been saying the fee will not charge the consumers but the retailers a small %. Every game is supposable to be around 8gb which is not that bad. Sony are also issuing policys on used games. The Reason i know all this is because im in higher management at GAME uk.

It's good that the xbox is finally getting a bluray drive, bigger hdd , even though you can't upgrade it...

fattyuk3979d ago

Yeah I'm sure 500gb is gonna last long

Gildarts3979d ago

You can connect an external harddrive to it.

koolaid2513979d ago

Thats what an external drive is for go buy a 4 terabyte drive and you'll have all of the storage that you ever need lol.

Tres213979d ago

that & im sure u can delete any games ur not currently playin & if u can still play them while they're being put back on the hard drive i dont see the big deal kinda lik other mandatory installs but no wait time.

DevilishSix3979d ago (Edited 3979d ago )

Here are my Top 5 features:

1. DRM so our games have no value and when the console becomes retro the games will become unplayable as well. Hay, who needs to add on to their gaming libraries they have been building for 10, 20, or 30 years.

2. Kinnect always on, so we can feel safe that someone is watching that we are ok.

3. Always on, so we check in with our big brother on at least a daily basis, so we know everything is current on our systems and if you don't have a connection or stable connection, the benefit is you can go do something else because you won't be playing on Xbox. It's a win win.

4. XBL annual subscriptions are remaining so we know that access will always be available to Microsofts service and we get the privilege to play online with others. It's great jump in.

5. All in one xbox so we can actually have umm three boxes, you know the One, the Cable box, and the 360 for our game library.

Any top 5 features I should switch out?

Perjoss3979d ago

wow dude, I checked your last 10 comments, you're on a serious anti Microsoft mission there aren't you? did Major Nelson run over your cat or something?

some people take this shiz way too serious :D

DevilishSix3979d ago

I was actually being sarcastic on this post and really the only reason I am being anti-microsoft is because of their plans for an anti-consumer piece of hardware. I actually have owned all the consoles and am an XBL Legacy member, but I can't support this kind of practice.

Hammerwatch II Will Stop Dilly-Dallying and Head to Xbox and PS4 on April 23

"Hammerwatch II's journey to Xbox has been long and perilous. After first launching on Steam in the fall of 2023, the game finally turned up on PlayStation 5 last December. Since then, Xbox gamers who enjoyed the original Hammerwatch and the sublime Heroes of Hammerwatch have been anxiously awaiting their turn at the long-promised sequel. At last, the wait is nearly over because Hammerwatch II will hit Xbox and PlayStation 4 on April 23," says Co-Optimus.
