First look at 2 Days 2 Vegas. All new screenshots and details on the development of the game.

Now let's talk about the new screenshots. All the images we present today and the videos we show off tomorrow are from a very early build of the game. What you will see is basically the game at 50% completion. To further describe it, such things as ambient filters (lighting, shading, etc) and anti aliasing (smoothing of edges on objects and models) has not been added. Yeah, we have slipped up in the past, but I hope that over the next few weeks I can help make that up to you guys. I don't think I have ever written anything controversial on PSU...most of my stuff recently is interviews, features, and what not.

Just to give you guys a heads up. After this 2 Days 2 Vegas thing...I have so much cool stuff lined up for PSU!

and one of the coolest and biggest things... a Killzone 2 feature lined up with Sony for February (or early March...SCEA is off and on).

How can you compare screenshots of a game thats only 50% complete to games like Saints Row and GTA4 that are complete or around 96% complete in the case of GTA4.

Thegame is from a company that liquidated and then moved so it didn't have to pay 60 employees money. So corrupt, that I can't ever see myself buying one of these companies games, and so corrupt that this game has no chance of being good. These screens are probably pre rendered aswell.

i dont think so.If it is then that will be pretty strange since it was never confirmed for the 360 until a few days ago.
but they might use the extra time to add a bit of extra content on the PS3,so i dont think PS3 owners are getting the long end of the stick.

It looks better then GTA in some shots, and worse then GTA in others(i.e. lighting and skys). My eye is kept on this one though before It is considered a must buy, As GTAIV is I will need a trailer and demo.

Depends if what was stated were the real reasons the game was pushed back.

What Green said could be what happens but you'd better hope the game is pushed back even further than what was stated to get an improved version.

Based from the fact they claimed three versions of the game is going to be too much at one time. The PS3 version will follow (too) soon after the other releases to get content and major improvments considering the current engine etc can be improved apon I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.

If it releases just a month later, then it won't contain any additional content over the 360/pc versions. Atleast, not due to the extra month of development.

I think it's pretty obvious why it'll release later for the PS3 version, this being their first title on the 'next-gen' consoles. We all know the 360 has a slight edge in terms of development adaptment for multi-platform games.

A month isn't that big of a deal though, as long as it offers atleast equal quality as the other versions.

OK... lets get something into my head! they said the fist pics that were shown to the public (back in 07) were in game??? and now look at this game, it looks like true crime 2 on ps2. Its shocking! and then i also read how its delayed on ps3??? hmmmm... till 2009!!! which doesn't bother me but why would they delay this game?

edit: my bad... the ps3 gets more content with this delay.

Just be thankful Steel Monkey's were kind enough to give PSU some insider info and some pics insuring the game is still being worked on... as if the game's complete and that the devs were going to spoil their up-comming showing of the game at its current best.

I'm very aware of development cycle and how it looks in dif stages.. this doesn't look very promissing at all... art direction, base models.. looks amateur-ish.

Nobody should weight on it because it "was" an exclusive... (I don't think it ever was .. as far as I can remember they said "PC and Next-Gens" first and then anounced for all like it is right now... people are still confusing this with Eight Days.)

Then that certainly would help quite a bit indeed.

It doesn't look bad for a sandbox game by all means, but at this point, it misses the beautifull lighting and atmosphere GTA IV has going for it. Then there's things like animations (transitions), traffic/crowd density/interactivity and ofcourse various gameplay mechanics to consider.

The game is a long way from 'GTA-killer' status as of yet, and I think now the actual screens have surfaced, people will tone their voice down a bit as the graphics are mostly the reason hype emerges for a certain game initially. And well, the graphics being displayed here aren't all that hype-worthy to be honest.

And I would definitely lower your expectations if you thought that trailer showed was any indication of what the game will actually look like, and more importantly: Will actually animate like.

That was so obviously CGI, it isn't even funny anymore. But, people buy it and actually believe that was ingame. It was a CGI trailer made for a single purpose, which is: Creating HYPE. And it worked!

Actually it did just before the dude jumps through the window. When they are ducked behind the car you can tell by his non fluid movement. I guess your crack team of million dollar investigators you obviously had to have to call someone out on something you no squat about just led you into a field of FUD.

*NEVER show a game that is only 50% complete. you can never redo a first impression. i know they're proud of their work, but outside of some of the car shots the game isn't looking very good. and i'm a guy that reserves judgment for *EVERYTHING.

the fact that the Playstation 3 version is delayed until 2009 isn't very good either. it's hard to get pumped for a game that i won't be playing for at *LEAST 15 months or more.

of course, looking at the *INSANE lineup of games hitting the Playstation 3 this year, i think 2 days 2 Vegas could be overshadowed by, i don't know, 8 Days, Killzone 2, Resistance 2, Metal Gear Solid 4, Infamous, Heavy Rain, LA Noire, Little Big Planet, Final Fantasy XIII, White Knight Story, Socom, Gran Turismo...any number of PS3 exclusives, so i guess being delayed to 2009, ultimately, will be a good thing for the title.

for one, we barely know anything about the characters outside of Vinny trying to get to Vegas to help out his brother. sounds like the basic premise of any GTA style game; generic. and while we don't know oodles about GTAIV either, the fact that Rockstar knows how to deliver an entertaining, humorous, and often gripping narrative is why we get excited by GTA games.

i'm sure Steel Monkey is burning the midnight oil to deliver a great story as well as good gameplay, but, after being a gamer for decades, i'm kind of sick of the constant "our game will do things that have never been done before" song and dance that developers *ALWAYS do. i know it's PSU saying this, but man, i hate when hype for a game gets built up, and ultimately, it may never be able to deliver on that hype, regardless of how awesome the game may actually be (read; practically *EVERY Playstation 3 exclusive reviewed so far). it hurts the game more than helps in the end.

i'll keep my eyes open for 2 days 2 Vegas however...in 2009. sorry.

The Resistance 2 pass Was rendered without lighting and shading in its Ambient mode.

2days2vegas CLEARLY has its lighting setup going, PLUS its shadows as you can see with the cars. As well as reflection maps going.

This isn't a "ambient mode" screen in the least. All one has to do is look at the older images to see that this is in fact, a Downgrade for lighting and textures. While the older images have what appears to be an HDRI lighting setup.. this one is using a traditional flat non dynamic lighting setup. Like you find in the PS2 titles.

I mean you can even bake GI into a map and fake it that way. Which they clearly aren't doing.

It looks like it definitely took a hit for Textures/Model Resolution.

but anyways, even though it's 50% complete, I'm sticking to my earlier assessment that graphically (at this stage) it does not trump GTA IV in graphics... but I guess it can with a lot more dev. time and polishing.

The Getaway will probably be released in 2009, maybe 2008 if Sony talks about it this year at GDC or E3. I have no idea, if I should get it for either my PC or 360 first or wait and get it on my PS3 later. Hmm, I really want a Electric guitar, build a new PC, get Killzone 2, Fable 2, Banjo Kazooie 3, MGS4 and LBP this year.

Yes it is. The game, like all others, is developed on a PC platform. It's easier to port games from PC architecture to the 360(cause they are similar) than to the PS3.

Nice if they add extra content though(they might as well not), but I'd rather not have to wait for the game.
