Microsoft Promises More Japanese Support For Xbox One At E3

Kotaku: "Microsoft has traditionally failed to sell Xboxes in Japan, so it could be safe to conclude that the publisher isn't all that interested in Eastern products. So we asked Microsoft vice president Phil Harrison: where are the Japanese games? His answer: we'll see more at E3."

moegooner883988d ago (Edited 3988d ago )

" We also asked a Microsoft representative if the console will be region-locked—that is, if each system will only play games compatible with its specific region.

Their answer: no comment. "

Either Microsoft hasn't made a decision regarding such issue, or the console will be region locked and Harrison is attempting to limit the " gamer unfriendly " news.

Instead of showing no Japanese games, we'll show One.

It's a waste of time for them to go after Japan. They need to do the bare minimal, because Japan is never going to go for Xbox, especially with the design of this one.

All they can do is get as much 3rd party Japanese support as possible, and keep a small amount of XBOne's in Japan for the 1+ million users over there, and put their focus on the US and UK, because they're going to need it if the mass market doesn't care about Xbox TV.

So...The shit storm really is going global....?

All it took was one reveal to change the balance of "console war" power forever (before it even began). Something tells me E3 is not going to fix these intrinsic and inherent problems. These are company philosophical and ideological decisions that have been made and are baked in... Good luck changing all of that within 3 weeks.

Theyellowflash303988d ago

Bullshit....No Japanese developers are going to support this. Unless it's the big guys like Konami

Mr_Nuts3988d ago

Did you see Kojima in the Xbox One reveal intro trailer at their reveal. It was like a 2 second clip, wonder how much that cost them

SpiralTear3988d ago

Kojima must have something big planned for next-gen. His already creepy, alienlike grin was even creepier during that 2 second clip.

rainslacker3987d ago

The big guys will support it just like they support the 360 now. It's because the Xbox has a big piece of the market outside of Japan. The smaller devs won't support it because, like now, most of their games aren't made for localization. The few that do get localized aren't enough for MS to really care about it. This was proven at the beginning of this gen when they actively sought out the JRPG market, then realized it wasn't as lucrative or worth supporting as they believed. Sony and Nintendo's heavy Japanese support is due to both of them having a heavy piece of the Japanese market. Other markets benefited from this. Unfortunately I doubt MS is going to make any headway into the Japanese market this time, and I question if they even really care that much.

izumo_lee3988d ago

Haven't we heard this BS before from Microsoft when talking about Japan? Simply put the Japanese do not care for the Xbox brand & no matter how hard you say you are gonna be committed if people do not care they do not care.

No matter how many bullet hell games or visual novels you put on the Xbox One the majority of Japan can care less. Heck that box is so massive it'll barely fit in a Japanese home.

GenericNameHere3988d ago

But advertise that box as an Idol Master box, and the Japanese will eat it up.
Have exclusive Idol Master stuff on Xbox One, like IM concerts as an exclusive X1 Live show, have an X1+IM bundle, anything! In fact, also put in those interactive love drama novel things on the Xbox. Won't even sell 1/10th COD sales, but at least you're still grabbing the Japanese audience and giving them a reason to own one!

*Whisper*... The enhanced Kinect... Use that in an Xbox One exclusive hentai porn game.

OlgerO3988d ago

Their are japanese homes that are smaller then that monstrosity that Microsoft calles a game console!

Tapani3987d ago

Precisely.

Japanese prefer smaller objects in general. The notion is already built in their own racial size, which eventually is reflected, for example, in architecture, handicraft or technology,

It is absolutely unintelligible that nobody ever at Microsoft thought that the actual design of the box was the reason they didn't gain foothold of this, admittedly difficult, lucrative and unique marketplace.

This just shows how out of touch the arrogant people at Microsoft are. Luckily, it is reflected on their balance sheet.

SatanSki3988d ago

MS should leave japanese crap for Sony and make western players happy instead.

maniacmayhem3988d ago

Thank goodness you're not running MS then because this westerner loves that "japanese crap"

rainslacker3987d ago

And yet, the biggest criticism of this Japanese "crap" is that it's "crap" because it's trying to much to be like western "crap".

Also, western players isn't accurate. You meant to say "make me happy instead".

SatanSki3987d ago

Chill out hehe. Its only my personal opinion. I know there are people who like those games although i dont know how one can stand all those emo gay characters ;-)

maniacmayhem3988d ago

People in America aren't going for what MS's X1 is offering I strongly doubt the Japanese will.

How to recruit Lam in Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes

Lam is among the 120 characters available for recruitment in Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes. While she is one of the many straightforward recruits, a known bug may prevent players from recruiting her if certain conditions are met. Despite developers’ assurances of fixing the bug, some early access players still encounter issues with recruiting Lam despite attempting the standard method.
