Does the Xbox One Pose a Threat for Wii U?

The video games industry undeniably runs on competition. When Nintendo announced and released their brand new Wii U, it was inevitable that it would face fierce competition from the likes of Microsoft and Sony in their bid to join the next generation race. In fact, in a live presentation today, Microsoft announced their next major home console, the Xbox One, it seems to have alot to offer, but will it pose a threat for the Wii U?

Uh... the real question is what isn't a threat to tne Wii U?

If anything, I think Microsoft just threw the Wii-U a lifeline. People aren't looking to replace their cable boxes when they buy a game console. Playing Blu-Ray is one thing, but taking over your TV? Does it work with existing cable services? Does it double as a PVR? Does it work with your PVR? You're average consumer isn't going to mess around with all this garbage. They just want to plug in and game, or let their kids game.

Based on this reveal, the Xbox One isn't even about gaming. This is certainly going to give Nintendo and Sony a boost. Who's going to consider the Xbox One for a cable box? Are they going to carry them in the gaming section of stores or over by the TV's and PVR's? This has train wreck written all over it.

At least the Wii-U and PS4 are straight forward. They're game consoles first. I think consumers will respond to that message now they're seeing everyone's cards.

Third party wise I could see more developers jumping over to the One and PS4.

Nothing in the show really wowed me.

And the one thing that was interesting to me mostly included live actors..?

So, I will wait till E3 to be shown what I really want a console for... games.

Nintendo has already got me hooked because every Gen. they release quality exclusives that I have grown-up playing.
SSB, Metroid, Mario Kart, Zelda, Fire Emblem- and now "Xenoblade" and a NEW Eternal Darkness (SotE)... Got to have a WiiU.

So, Sony and Microsoft are fighting for 2nd... so far, Sony wins,

Only thing that really caught my attention was the quantum game. But it seems like it might be my kind of game from a story perspective, and I give props to the developer's ability.

Can't deny how popular EA Sports games are, but their presentation was rather lackluster and showed no ingame footage. However to the layman the graphics trailer demo was OK I guess. Forza is Forza, so nothing wrong with that, but Sony has GT and now Drive Club, and Nintendo will have it's Mario Kart game eventually. I know it's not a direct competitor, but it is a racing game. COD is going to be on all the systems, and timed exclusive DLC is about as exciting as it was 7 years ago.

Otherwise, I've been critical of Nintendo's current release schedule and lack of currently available compelling software, but at the very least we know they will be bringing something.

15 exclusives and 8 new IP's does hold promise though, so I'll reserve judgement until E3.

Of course it poses a threat, they are representing the same market. Is Ford a threat to Honda? They both sell cars don't they?

it helps. it lowers the bar spec wise for ports (since devs will be porting down from X1's 5GB game ram not ps4's 7GB) also, this thing will tank with always online, an odd used game scheme and high price. $500 Xbox One vs $249-$299 Wii U, it will be like Wii where a good amount of consumers opt for the cheaper option.

Ram isn't a bottleneck these days with Havok being able to x10 ur textures ect it really doesn't matter you can turn say 512mb of texture memory into 5GB so Ram doesn't equal better graphics it's still down to the gpu and gpu bandwidth.

And i think Nintendo are allowing more than 1GB of ram for games now 1.5GB is more than enough,when you take into account nearly every game will require Havok's nextgen engine that compresses textures ect by x10.

if the XBox One's (or even PS4) price is a tad high for the average-joe-who-has-a-family-t o-feed-but-still-enjoy-gaming-a nd-with-kids, then the wallets will decide.

and with Wii U out by almost a year by the time the other 2 consoles come out, it will have more games by then (some 3rd party and a couple of first party exclusives), and Nintendo may even decide to boost sales by having a price drop.

so with the recent XBox Reveal, Wii U and PS4 may be more appealing to gamers, especially the ones who can afford to get 2 consoles.

I would love the Wii U to do better than the Xbox One. To be honest i don't think we should put these 2 up against each other anymore, they are no longer the same thing. The Wii U is a games console, the Xbox One is an entertainment system. It's like putting the Wii U in competition with a mobile phone. A few months ago i never thought about getting a Wii u but with all the rumors and now reveal of the Xbox One i think i will get one. For the good of gaming we should all want the Wii U to do better.

Uh, no. Xbox one, Not backwards Compatible, Now you have to pay a fee to play used games (or rent for that matter), it needs to connect to the net daily, it is going to be pricy as the system requires kinect (how much is a 360 kinect bundle now?). Pay to play online cost much less on other consoles, or nothing on Wii U. The Wii U gamepad is already Has TVii, and is a great remote and TV browser, and will have a strong amount of games out this Holiday. Xbox one you will be starting from scratch.

It seems most people are getting a WiiU now the xbox one has been revealed ?? ive got a WiiU and i might get a ps4 slim when it eventually comes out not into big consoles that's assuming the ps4 is at least as big as ps3,so looks like real gamers will be enjoying Beyonetta2/Windwaker/X/Wonderf ul101/Pikimin3/Kart/Smash/COD Ghosts/Watchdogs ect ect.
