The problem with today's lackluster Nintendo Direct

GameZone's Lance Liebl writes, "It was pointless. Today's May 17 Nintendo Direct was pointless. We were supposed to learn about all of the exciting games we'll be playing on our 3DS and Wii U consoles. Instead, we got a September release date (not even Summer) for The Wonderful 101, yet another brief update on Pikmin 3 and Animal Crossing: New Leaf, and some Sega eShop titles. "

you're acting as if nintendo didn't already state at the beginning of the direct that they would be talking about spring and summer releases (a.k.a things we already know about) and release dates. FYI September 15 is still part of summer since the official first day of fall is sept. 22. This direct was probably to get these games out of the way so we can get the real news in the pre E3 direct! Hell!! atleast we know Sonic Lost World is Wiiu exclusive! That's cool isn't it?

Knushwood Butt3994d ago

They should have stated at the beginning that it was going to be pointless.

"I know that many of you are looking forward to E3 in June. We've been preparing a separate nintendo Direct that is focused on future WiiU content, that will air around the time of E3..."

This is what Iwata said in the beginning of the direct. This and some tweets http://n4g.com/news/1256771...
stating that it would only talk about spring and summer releases, should tell you what the direct would be about. I swear you act as if these things didn't happen.
EDIT: https://twitter.com/Nintend...

TwistedMetal3994d ago

yep not looking forward to the other nintendo directs i want an e3 presentation instead but nintendo isnt going to do that they are gonna do boring bland nintendo direct stuff for grandmas. compare to e3 which e3 is the cooler stuff.

JuleyJules3994d ago

Pointless? All we heard before today was complaining that we didn't know release dates. Now we do and it's pointless? They probably did this to have the E3 direct for new games and unannounced games. I suppose that will not be enough either.

Shnazzyone3994d ago

Lesson I want nintendo to learn:
Don't do a 3ds direct with a massive unexpected bombshell that you also tease a wii U nintendo direct in the future and then do a stream you teased without at least one bombshell. I'm thinking the sonic wii U/3ds exclusive was supposed to be the bombshell. Yet i'm so apathetic to sonic that I barely count that as there was no footage. Hum drum as hell. A hint, an inkling, if only one thing stood out. It just felt bleh.

RTheRebel3994d ago (Edited 3994d ago )

Love all these morons that were expecting Megaton bombs' really?? E3 will satisfy.

kirbyu3994d ago

So? They said it wasn't gonna be anything big. I'm surprised they made new game announcements.

GABRIEL10303994d ago

LOL a super mario luigi, Nintendo only changes the red guy and replaces him for green guy for a new game, nothing more, this is a shame, its the same game!

kirbyu3994d ago

1. It isn't the same game, it's got new levels and a new playable character that functions differently (Nabbit).

2. That's not what I was talking about. I was talking about Sonic: Lost World and Mario & Sonic.

3. The Luigi game wasn't a new announcement today.

3-4-53994d ago

@gab....it's supposed to be the same game. 80 new levels though.

How don't you know this already ?

Jek_Porkins3994d ago

It was some interesting and new announcements, and while it wasn't the best Nintendo Direct, I thought it was pretty good. We now know that Nintendo and Sega have exclusive partnerships for Sonic games, we have release dates on Wonderful 101 and Pikmen 3, and we learned that E3 is going to be all about games and gamer's, and to top it all off, we get to play the demo's at Best Buy!

So, it wasn't the Bayonetta 2, Wind Waker HD, Mario 3D or Smash Bro's footage, but it was a nice taste to keep everyone interesting.

E3 is right around the comer man. Chill out.

Wii U games that still haven't been ported to Switch

The Nintendo Switch is potentially nearing its lifespan, and several Wii U games haven't found their way over as ports yet.

I think it's better to leave games like AC: Amiibo Festival and Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash forgotten on the Wii U. Best case, they are mediocre games; worse case, they are very bad. It was a dark time for the Wii U, and the first only exists to sell Amiibo cards, whereas the second was put together in a couple of months with a shoestring budget, and it shows.

The rest of the list does have some really cool games, though. I would love to see a remake of Star Fox Zero with decent controls, and Xenoblade X doesn't require that much modification to work.

How would XCX work without dual screens functionality?

Cacabunga2d ago

Same as Paper Mario color splash. One of the best wiiu games and getting even better with dual screen. Same reason why i prefer Splatoon 1

This article leaves out Nintendo's most controversial game to date devils Third.
I personally found the cover system really fun in that one compared to at the time most fps games completely lacking one.

Stevonidas2d ago

Devil's Third is HIGHLY underrated.

repsahj2d ago

They should remake Starfox to the switch 2. Very beautiful game during gamecube days.

Kirby is always ignored or forgotten by people, so good to see it mentioned here.
Play Kirby Canvas Curse on DS, and then play Rainbow Curse on Wii U, they're really fun and unique 'platformers' without any actual jumping.
