that as of march 31st, Xbox 360 was @ 77.2 million. VGchartz has xbox 360 @ 75.5 million only being off by 1.7 million. Now Sony's released their numbers putting them @ 80.4 million. VGChartz has them @ 74.6 million being off by 5.8 million. How can Sony still have that many ps3 on the shelf and retailers are still asking for more shipments? That 3x the amount they were off by Xbox360 sales. {(1.7 x 3) = 5.1} So VGChartz is saying that Sony's overshipping and there are 3 times as many ps3 on store shelves (worldwide)than xbox360. I like how Media Create JPN numbers completely contradict that statement.

VGChartz is trash. Even with all the evidence showing ps3 ahead, they still have Xbox360 with a lead. Saying their undertracking ps3, is an understatement. They should be ashamed but they're not.

I agree that PS3 has pulled ahead of the 360 but the 80.4 million number is definitely ps3 and ps2 numbers added together for the fy2012.

In this interview on Feb. 21st, Jack Tretton says "on a worldwide basis, we’ve sold the same, if not more, devices. I think we’re at 77 million sold right now — it’s basically splitting hairs."

The PS3 has obviously sold more than 0.2M consoles between Feb 21st and Mar 31st but it hasn't sold 3.4M in that time period.

Sales are much better this gen then last gen. last gen Gamecube and xbox each sat around 20+mil. PS2 over 100mil.

This gen PS3/360 each around 75-80mil. Wii at close to 100mil.

I agree and whats really strange is at the beginning of this gen I said by the time the next gen starts the Wii will have around 100 million in sales and the PS3 and 360 will be very close and be on around 75 million.

Im glad all 3 have done well and I expect the same when the new consoles hit the market later on this year and once Nintendo hit the big name games the WiiU sales will pickup. I see all 3 getting to 75+ million in the next gen.

The WiiU is new and people are still getting big name games for the current generation consoles.

Once the big names start coming out the WiiU will have some of its big named games out and sales will pickup.

It will be the same with the PS4 and Next Xbox. I don't think any of them will fly out from the start it will be a steady line until 12 to 18 months of being on the market looking at how the current market is.

@Dmagic You think a £400 console will be sold out all year? I think a lot of people will be shocked when they see the sales of the PS4 and Next Xbox not as high as they are expecting over its 1st 12 months on the market.

What people need to remember is both Microsoft and Sony are going to support the 360 and PS3 when there new consoles are out and as long as games like COD, BF, Fifa ect are on the current gen consoles a lot of people will not upgrade there consoles for 12 to 24 months after the new consoles are out.

Yes people are waiting for a new gen but that was said about the PSV and look what happened there.

We are still in recession and people will get as long as they can out of there current consoles as a lot of people are trying to save where they can.

I wouldn't get my hopes up for PS4 + Vita combo. First it was PSP + PS3, then it was Vita + PS3. Neither delivered. Would be nice if they deliver it this time, but I have my doubts.

Actually, no I'm pretty sure that remote play on ps4 will work with the hardware and developers actually don't have to do anything. Which means all ps4 games will be able to be streamed to the vita.

PSV-PS4 remote play is hardware enabled indeed, it has been said multiple times, that's not the problem, the problem is that developers (and so publishers) can decide to turn it off, which obviously they will when they are selling the game on both platforms.

That said, I'm not disagreeing with you, I also think most games will be remotely playable, but just a heads up, probably not EVERY game.

Sony isn't going to drop an investment because another company has been more successful. If companies operated like that you would have one soft drink, one fast food joint, one truck, one car, one airline, one everything. All that matters is whether they're profitable and if they're not then whether they forecast that they will be profitable in the future. For profit companies operate for profit and for not children who have no intention to invest money in their products and have nothing better to do than fantasize about imaginary pissing contests.

Financially, what Nintendo is doing has nothing to do with Sony. All that matters for Sony is what Sony is doing. If the Vita makes money then it will keep being produced. It already has a sizable enough install based to make developers a profit and so really at the end of the day it comes down to is Sony making money or do they think they will turn a profit in the future? Anything else is as useful as the hot air fanboys across the board like to spew on a daily basis around here.

The numbers on VGChartz are way off for PS3 and 360. 360 according to many on VGchartz is undertracked by over 1 million and PS3 is estimated to be under tracked by over 1.5 million and the shipped and sold gap between the two is basically non existent now.

I own a Vita and these numbers doesn't amuse me in the slightest. Let's add to this the "optimistic information about the forecast sales of Vita in 2013 which according to SONY should be 5 milion. Let me rephrase that...5 milion PSP and PS VITA combined sales in 2013.

Nevertheless I will continue to arrange "Meetings for PS VITA owners" in different cities and will continue to support this platform.

Im not sure what your point is but my comment is about how ahead PSV with the Wii-U considering its a new console "regardless" of the difference. 3DS everyone knows its selling well. How many grandpas, grandmas, little kids and casuals you think are there in the world compared to us "core" gamers?? they will always outnumber us thats the reason Wii is so successful and so is the 3DS. But I still prefer the Vita over the 3DS anyday and I own a vita too and will support it no matter what. Its a great partner to my PS3 and upcoming PS4. But I think i see your point that your quite dissapointed with the sales. I too am hoping it will reach PSP numbers in time. we just need to give it more time like the PS3 in its early years. Thats why im so annoyed by the doom and gloom haters that the vita is still new and they bash it already. Sony said there will be many reveals about the vita in E3. so lets wait.
