'Groundbreaking New IP' Coming from Take-Two Games

GR said, "We may all love a good sequel, but there’s just something special about a new intellectual property. Fresh characters, environments, and gameplay concepts are often born through new franchises, and according to the 2K Games earnings call conducted today, something special is coming from the major publisher in the near future."

I would love to see that. There's no way that's a PS3 game anymore.

coolbeans3991d ago (Edited 3991d ago )

How can you be so certain?

-Been in development for years, meaning costs are probably high
-PS3 has a current userbase of over...80 million
-Number of PS4's at launch will be a fraction of that

Or did you mean 'there's no way it's a PS3 exclusive?'

Lionheart3773991d ago

Well, I'm not sure it's been in development for years. For all we know, Rockstar put it on ice to work on other things, knowing it would move to the PS4.

coolbeans3991d ago

"For all we know, Rockstar put it on ice to work on other things.."

Their answers about Agent's development cycle in the past prove otherwise.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wik...

We might not know how many were working on the game at a time, but they've never indicated its development was shelved for the time being.

Lionheart3773991d ago

You have a point, but could you imagine Agent and GTA 5 both launching in the fall? Or, even crazier, Agent hitting the PS3 in 2014?

coolbeans3991d ago (Edited 3991d ago )

Well the things is: I'm not excluding the chance of it being an "exclusive" for both active PS consoles (in production), just going after the notion of it not being possible to release as a PS3 game.

"Or, even crazier, Agent hitting the PS3 in 2014?"

Given Sony's and third-parties' dedication to the PS2 after 3 released, I wouldn't consider it to be THAT crazy of an idea.

Note: If a term like "cross-gen exclusive" for x/y consoles is coined in the near future, you can pinch me. :P

zebramocha3991d ago (Edited 3991d ago )

@coolbean just because it was announced doesn't mean they were developing the game because if anyone remembers sorcery for the ps move, what we saw was just a playable proof of concept .

Sevir3991d ago

The question of the game's existence was once again asked about at an around the table question forum after the PS4 was revealed to Shuhei Yoshida, to which he answered

"You are asking the wrong person. I have some knowledge, but I'm not in a position to talk about it."

Reference: http://en.m.wikipedia.org/w...

At this point I think this will be a PS4 Title given the structure of R*'s pipeline and release time frames. Given that Shuhei knows about it I'd say R* is ready to finally show it off.

coolbeans3991d ago (Edited 3991d ago )

Read the link provided in my 2nd comment. R* admitted in Q + A's of Agent being in active development in both 2010 and 2011.

"...because if anyone sorcery for the ps move, what we saw was just a playable proof of concept ."

I don't see how that's a rational counter-argument.

zebramocha3991d ago (Edited 3991d ago )

@coolbean My comment was more of a counter that the game had a high development cost as there was no release date just an announcement, sorcery was just an example, there was a stage demo but the game came out like two years later and had a different art style.

omi25p3991d ago

Rockstar arent the only Developer 2K own and i doubt Rockstar would let 2K announce the're game for them.

coolbeans3991d ago

I'm still trying to rack my brain about the point you're trying to get across. I mentioned the probability of high dev costs to put into perspective why it seems a tad silly to think this might not be a PS3 game at all.

Sorcery as an example doesn't really mirror this situation either: it's a first-party developed game and launched at a $40 price point, showing it certainly wasn't a big-budget title like Agent promises to be.

zebramocha3991d ago (Edited 3991d ago )

@coolbean My point was how can you factor in price of it being high or going multiplat when there was no gameplay shown just an announcement?secrecy was an example because it was playable on stage but the game development didn't start until after the unveiling and the link you've provided shows rockstar and Sony have a good relationship so I find it hard to believe that rockstar couldn't make a game efficiently on the ps3/4 unless their game is very ambitious in scope. I don't think their will be a difference in cost from first party and third other then what they are trying to do with the game.

yeahokchief3991d ago (Edited 3991d ago )

My guess is that AGENT is a VITA title.

Recently they said a major game was coming to the Vita that we'd sink many hours into. I think this is it. Vita/PS3 cross play seems to make the most sense here to me. And I thought i read somewhere that rockstar was working on vita games.

abzdine3990d ago

i can see PS4 is all over the place

coolbeans3990d ago

"My point was how can you factor in price of it being high or going multiplat when there was no gameplay shown just an announcement?"

In regards to price: have you still bothered to look at Agent's wikipage I linked above? Take-Two's former CEO recognized Agent as an AAA title (meaning budget) years ago.

In regards to multiplat: I can then SPECULATE why it's more feasible to believe the title would look to release on PS3 at some time given the chance to make more money from the current userbase.

"... I find it hard to believe that rockstar couldn't make a game efficiently on the ps3/4 unless their game is very ambitious in scope."

Well it's been called "ambitious in scope" from the beginning so there you go.

"I don't think their will be a difference in cost from first party and third other then what they are trying to do with the game."

And now you lost me again. :/

The article says 2K games so how on earth can it be Agent?

R* is developing Agent...unless that has changed and it has been handed over to 2K games.

"2K is an American global developer, marketer, distributor and publisher of video games.[1] 2K Games is a subsidiary of Take-Two Interactive. It was created on January 25, 2005 after Take-Two acquired developer Visual Concepts and its wholly owned subsidiary Kush Games from Sega for US$24 million"

Key word being subsidiary which R* is also a subsidiary of Take-Two.

My bet is that its a sport game.

@NateCole...NVM.

Rhaigun3991d ago

He's actually right. In the article, 2K never said its a R* game. Also, they are talking about next gen systems. Geez, read the article before commenting people.

BitbyDeath3991d ago (Edited 3991d ago )

'My bet is that its a sport game.'

Which sport could be considered as groundbreaking?
Farming simulator? XD

MysticStrummer3991d ago

A groundbreaking sports IP?

This I have to see.

Outside_ofthe_Box3991d ago

^^^ A NFL2K game or any football game as a matter of fact from 2K would be groundbreaking actually.

MysticStrummer3990d ago

I guess that depends on how you define groundbreaking. I enjoyed NFL2K, but no game based on the NFL or any other sport would qualify as groundbreaking to me, unless we're talking about some kind of revolutionary virtual reality, but even then the game itself wouldn't be the groundbreaking thing.

ps4 game named "nameGroundbreaking agent" .

AngelicIceDiamond3991d ago

I doubt its Agent, I think its something totally new.

showtimefolks3990d ago

I think this is just the start, most if not all big publishers have new IP's in development and its matter of time before they show them

Many will be shown at this years E3, also lets not forget we will get few before E3 on spike TV video GTTV show.

It's gonna be fun

Take two only make quality games so this could be huge

IAmLee3990d ago

FINALLY, A NEW DORA THE EXPLORER GAME.

DOMination-3990d ago

"We also have an extraordinary pipeline of titles in development for next-generation platforms, including groundbreaking new intellectual property and releases from our proven franchises,”

To me, this is just a general statement and nothing to be excited about. Of course they are going to have a combination of new IP and old franchises returning for the next gen consoles and that's basically all he's saying. Agent is probably amongst those new IP but I read this statement as if new IP was a plural in this sentence so all I'm saying is, I don't think he's referring to anything specific.

stubbed_out3990d ago

Considering the development rate of this game...PS7?

I knew this game would come into play sooner or later.

slinky1234563991d ago

The author is obviously confused by something here. Isn't Agent by Rockstars Take2, not 2K?

And he says 2K has GTA5 later this year to help its earnings. How did this article get approved?

nevin13991d ago

Their all under Take2's watch.

JP13693991d ago

Don't mind if I do!
Seriously though, my phone automatically enters spaces and there are times when I'm too lazy to correct it.

2K Support Hacked, Warning Issued To Affected Users

The help desk platform used by 2K Games for its customer support has been hacked, with malicious emails sent to certain players.

JBplusVB572d ago

I was one of those users that got an email. Good thing I didn't open it. The email is from actual 2k support so I'm sure many people opened them. Scary stuff Take Two. You guys should invest some of your billions of dollars into some advancements for network security. I wonder who's getting hacked next at Take Two. First GTA 6 and now this.

Wow, that reads like a great review. I enjoyed Until Dawn but only ever played it once due to other games around at the time.
This game looks very promising reading this and will definitely pickup a copy.
