Blame THQ they forced them to have Ranger mode dlc a year ago and Deep silver couldn't take it away as dlc because people had already pre-ordered it.

They could've just had the in-game weapon, the in game credits, and the art comic as the pre-oder bonus, but just to **** with the people actually interested in this, they screw over everyone.

nvm, just read around and it's a "real" sequence.

Nonetheless, I ended reading so much about it and Metro 2033 that I just bought a 2033 Steam Key for ~$5 and I'm finishing downloading it right now. Nice nerdy saturday night for me :)

I wish it were an X360 exclusive. Those games tend to end up as blockbusters. These cross platform games are a gamble.

Well early on one of the THQ reps said it would be longer if not as long as Metro 2033 the OPM review said around 10hrs.

are you guys seriously complaining about the preorder DLC?

here are the reasons why it boggles my mind that people could possibly complain about the preorder DLC...

1. Its not 4A games fault. THQ set up the preorder bonus, and the bonus was given to retailers before THQ died. People already had money on the game and the preorder bonuses, so it would have taken more effort to rescind this tiny thing than to just let it be

2. Deep silver hasn't made a single DLC that was similar to this one, that is, a locked mode, so they probably won't be doing this in the future

3. The game is 50 freaking dollars...and the DLC is something like 5-6 dollars if you buy it afterwards. Even THEN its less money than standard triple A games
Heck, I bought it for only 37.50 from GMG!

4. They gave you metro 2033 for FREE

5. if you're a PC owner and pissy about this DLC, then you can easily download it (the locked mode) from a pirate site or something, or apply some user made fix. Its seriously not a big deal...use your damn resources

6. if you were planning on preordering it already then the DLC is free! its literally a non-issue

I accept your arguments (most of them, since others - like #5 - are just ridiculous when you first are trying to defend the publisher's point), but don't ignore that this is setting a dangerous precedent.

You really want that, in the near future, games have their retail price (let's say $39) plus 5 difficult-like-modes, $5 each? Sounds a bit absurd? Well then just look at DLC and microtransactions market right now. Those were "absurd" 3 years ago. And yet, they won.

Most - maybe - are complaining about paying $5 more to some content that actually should be packed with the game, but others are seeing ahead and trying to avoid that dark future.

You can keep arguing - and that you do very well - in favor of publishers but keep in mind: when the time comes and you'll be charged for almost every single feature that should be in the game you already paid the full price you helped them to achieve that.

The point is that if they can get away with it, who else can?

Do you really want EA to start offering money for a menu in game? For an exit button? For cheat codes?

It is a terrible business strategy, and don't use the "they can't change it" idea, they wouldn't be the first game that has changed something and compensate it's user base with offerings (go look up any pay2play mmo that went free and they probably did it).

And giving away metro for free wasn't really much, it was more of a business strategy than anything. They would have wagered that the few hundred copies that would get sold after the company died would be less money than if they gave it away for free and got more customers to purchase the sequel.

There is a huge, HUGE difference between an optional difficulty in a game and a menu. Give your head a shake.

It was more along the lines of what's to come.

Think back a few years ago. You never payed for anything in a game unless it was an expansion pack. Then came along level packs. Then came along smaller purchases like characters, guns, and skins. Then exclusive pre-order bonuses started popping up. Now we have moved onto difficulties being payed for to experience the game "the way it was meant to be played". What's next?

Sure I may have gone a bit far saying a menu being payed for, but it really is leading into a ridiculous state BECAUSE people are still paying for this crap so companies are milking more and more out of consumers.
