The Mac Console

The rumour mill has started to turn again with the news last week that Apple had patented a new multi-player system. This coupled with the patent of a wireless controller has got peoples tongues wagging as to what possibly Apple could be up to. Game Centre improvements? Or are they developing a console? Let’s work on the assumption of the latter, seeing as I wrote a lengthy how to improve Game Centre post last month.

These are my ideas of what I believe could give Apple a stable platform to build from.

I don't fancy it tbh but I do think Apple could give the industry a good shake up and that's no bad thing :)

subtenko4002d ago

There is already the Ouya. Regardless of the Ouya, if mac made a console for its ios apps, it would make the ouya even more irrelevant (imo at least) unless you wanna view it as mobile phone game console with two seperate platforms.

Thinking about it makes me wanna facepalm if the mac console and ouya have had a few exclusives and 90% being multiplatform.

Whooh, downvoted to hell for voicing an original and non defamatory opinion, thanks n4g, you never fail to amaze me.

April is gone. Please. No more.

the media really needs to give it up. They might make a controller, but it will just be to compliment existing products. I don't get whats so magical about the term "console" either...

Tontus4002d ago

I'd love for Apple to make their own console. We know it'd be beautiful, reliable, fast, well-supported and of high quality in every aspect.

I reckon Apple could form a couple of amazing game studios to get some great exclusives on their platform and it'll be popular & powerful enough for 3rd party developers to justify supporting it. I think it would be great to have another competitor in the home console market, then I could buy the PS4 & iPlay (instead of buying M$'s next console, well maybe when it's cheap as hell).

Rageanitus4002d ago (Edited 4002d ago )

who says apple is reliable and fast?..... the hardware in many of its components are similar or slower (price to performance ratio) vs "alternatives.

I do give it that Apple have produced pretty NICE looking products but in terms price to performance ratio they are a complete rip off.

Apple fanboys actually think the hardware is more reliabble when inf fact they share similar components to the pc "clone" counterpart.

Well supported? I think not... look at how many pc games vs mac games...

They are doing well in the iphone market, but they are losing much ground to the android front.

People love to compare retina Macbook Pros against cheap Windows laptops and say that Apple is too expensive. Compare it to an equivalent Alienware or something high end on the windows side and that's another story...

Also, I loved this article:
http://www.cultofmac.com/22...

Looks like when you look at the figures, macs are even better at running windows than windows-only machines.

Isis064002d ago

I've always found Apple products rather ugly and from what I hear they are not so reliable... they always use high quality casings but if what Apple is doing is called support, I want out.

rluvah4002d ago

Well you have heard wrong. I've been using Apple products for a long time (well before the Iphone) and they are very reliable.

Isis063999d ago

Well what I have heard from users around me... and yes I am talking about before iPhone... are complains about loads of stuff. Anywhere from connection issues to just never turning on again.
I've bought a single product from them and it worked for two years. iPod second generation and that thing was expensive, like all of the Apple products.
So don't tell me that I am wrong about what I have heard or seen.
aMen.

CEOSteveBallmer4001d ago

google Apple Pippin or on wikipedia. If you have not heard of it. Its a "game console" that apple made back in the 90s and the rest is history. This thought apple a lesson and they dont need a game console. Their Ipad is already their gaming console. We do not need another 4th player in the console business.

Would love to see this happen

I had the LaserActive... it was a nice collectors piece but not very practical. Especially when it came to needing recapping. I think i paid all of about $50 for the floor model from an incredible Universe back in the day. I ended up selling it many years later for $300 at the time due to it needing a new laser and the aforementioned recapping.

An honorable mention not on the list would be the VM Labs Nuon. It basically looked like any regular DVD player but it had ports on it for controllers to play specific games. one of which is still exclusive to it with Tempest 3000. It also offered nuon enhanced DVD movies with extra content not accessible by regular players.

Why Epic's Win Against Apple And Google Paves The Way For The Future Of Mobile Gaming

Epic Games winning its cases against both Apple and Google is shaping the way forward for the future of mobile gaming.

shinoff218342d ago

I feel alot of mobile gamers are kids which will at some point probably turn to console or pc. Mobile gaming just doesn't cut it for me.

AlterRecs41d ago

tru dat, but i feel like it's gonna be a lot more viable for people who travel a lot or don't want to invest in a full gaming rig. Think of it as a Switch on drugs, with a LOT more room for free illegal downloads.
