SEGA Planning Seven Releases for Wii U in the Coming Year

Plenty of companies based in Japan are currently releasing their yearly financial results, with SEGA Sammy — the larger organisation that includes the developer / publisher — joining in the fun. The results highlight just how valuable other areas are to the company, such as Pachislot and Pachinko machines, but we're more interested in the games, of course.

and 5 for the vita segas been busy!

nirwanda3993d ago

That's because they see a niche market.
The vita isn't well supported because people see figures in financial meeting's but sega have seen an opportunity if they make games that most people want they will sell millions because they don't have much other competition on the vita from other devs.

Tito083992d ago (Edited 3992d ago )

& what's wrong with a niche market, because of Phantasy Star Online 2? Isn't it the same market being targeted on the 3DS with the Monster Hunter games? BTW, all you talk about is how Mario & Sonic Olympics sold more than any PS3 game with the exception of GT, it didn't sell more than Uncharted, or God Of War or the original LBP if you compare them by individual platforms. BYW why didn't you mention other Sega games such as Madworld which sold poorly exclusive on Wii? Yeah, thought so, marketing on a Nintendo machine is also as niche as it gets.

Of course you're saying that because the M&SO was sold across 2 platforms, which is similar to being a multiplat, the PS3 games are sold on only one platform, with the exception of Sly & PS All-Stars that are on Vita as well, but in your case you only mentioned PS3 trying to twist things around in your favor, you ain't fooling no one.

nirwanda3992d ago

There's nothing at all wrong with a niche market one of the first rules of business is to find a market that nobody else has taken advantage of.
But your very wrong about mario and sonic its sold 2million copies more than god of war 3 and 3million more copies then uncharted 2 or 3 just on the wii it sold over 7million.

Tito083988d ago (Edited 3988d ago )

Fair enough, but the main reason it sells is because it has Mario in it, what if it was simply called Sonic Olympics, the game is mostly seen for the most part as a Mario game. & Also, they might be making 7 games on Wii U, but who knows what games are those, it could be ports, it could be a multiplat which goes along with PS360, M&SO can't speak for all multiplats that do not sell on Nintendo systems.

Your constant mention of M&SO selling more than most PS3 exclusives shows how much of a fanboy you are, why didn't you say 360 exclusives, like honestly who cares. One thing you have to keep in mind is a console's attach rate, in which Nintendo definitely have the lowest of the 3 in regards to 3rd parties, Sega can't point M&SO as an example because of Nintedo's characters, what happened to Madworld, Conduit, Virtua Tennis? great games but poorly sold on it. Compare that to PS3 with 5 Yakuza games, Valkyria Chronicles, Virtua Fighter 5, Binary Dommain, Vanquish, Bayonetta(poorly ported), Initial D. Of course Wii received more, but most of that were casual shovelware & old school games from the Virtual console which the PS3 already have in Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection on disc, & the games sold separate on PSN. Can't deny the fact Sega & most 3rd parties did better with PS360 than on Wii, it remains to be seen at to what those games on Wii U are, but I wouldn't be surprised if they're ports of already released games or multiplat along with PS360.

This is good news. I'm glad that the Wii U still have support of the actual few good publishers that are left.

PopRocks3593993d ago

Just like the previous generations. It's better to have some third party support as oppose to none, but I think it's important for Nintendo to entice developers as much as they can for both this generation and the next.

lilbroRx3993d ago

Third party support itself means little though. What matters is that it is good.

I would rather have 5 good devs and 20 bad ones.

As I have been saying, the Wii U doesn't need all of the "big name" devs that make games for the Sony and Microsoft as most of them make overhyped mediocrity. They just need the ones who make great games.

PopRocks3593993d ago

Absolutely. They've managed to create three profitable console generations (one of which was a major success over its competition for the majority of its time) with very little third party support. I agree with you, when push comes to shove they really don't NEED third party support.

But as a Wii U owner, I don't think it's unreasonable for me to want to have more content available on the console. It's great that we'll be able to play Watch Dogs or Resident Evil Revelations on it. I just feel it would be that much better to have even more of that kind of support, you know?

Dj7FairyTail3993d ago

Wii U has support from
Ubisfot
Disney
WB Games
Activision minimal
Namco
Atlus
Sega
Capcom
Square Enix
Tecmo KOEI

stragomccloud3992d ago

I think Activision is also a supporter. I think I'll be really surprised if the next COD doesn't come out on Wii U.

Mottsy3993d ago

If they could get Skies of Arcadia 2 or PSO2 on the WiiU (or heck, any system really!) That could be great for WiiU sales and if Sega could get those on other systems I am sure that will be great for Sega as well.

Sega sells Relic and will cut 240 jobs across UK studios

GamesIndustry.biz writes: "Relic is best known for the Company of Heroes and Dawn of War games, and recently developed the new Age of Empires for Microsoft. Relic will transition to an independent studio and will no-longer be part of the Sega group of studios.

The majority of the 240 job cuts are across Creative Assembly and Sega Europe, while there will be a ‘small number’ cut from Sega HARDLight. There was no mention of other Sega UK studios, including Two Point Studios and Sports Interactive."

Shame about Creative Assembly, they should have just been allowed to do an Alien Isolation sequel.

just_looken18d ago

It was that garbage coh 3 that did them in only a special team can make a sequel worse in every way even though it was a 10 year gap and the same era.

gold_drake18d ago

I hope they find new jobs in the industry soon.

Jingsing18d ago

Two Point Studios and Sports Interactive probably run on a shoe string budget so that fits into SEGA better lol

SEGA’s Switch Predecessor: What Happened to the Nomad?

Sega had such a turbulent existence from the mid-90s to when they dropped out of console manufacturing entirely in 2001, it’s understandable if you’ve never heard of the Genesis Nomad.
