The Studio Behind Aliens: Colonial Marines Just Laid Off Its Staff

Kotaku - TimeGate, best known for developing Section 8 and Aliens: Colonial Marines, may be no more.

ShugaCane4003d ago (Edited 4003d ago )

They're paying for Gearbox and Sega's mistakes and bad management of the game's development. Those employees had their work rushed and were asked the impossible in regard of Colonial Marines. It's really not fair to call them "The Studio Behind Aliens : Colonial Marines" when they're clearly not the only responsible for the disaster.

Vigor4003d ago (Edited 4003d ago )

they are the smaller studio so it's easy to point the finger on them when clearly Gearbox and sega are the real perpetrator. These guy had very little ressource after gearbox had used the money intended for the game to fund memeland and duke.

So TimeGates taking the fall huh... (sigh)
Gearbox and Sega deserve most of the blame IMO.

Jek_Porkins4003d ago

Hmmm, this is a shame, all people deserve a second chance. The game should have been delayed, I own it and will all the title updates it's actually much better now than when it released.

So many developers closing, you have to worry about a possible console game market crash in the near future.

Majin-vegeta4003d ago

If it does you can thank the Companies for becoming too greedy and releasing crap.

Menech4003d ago (Edited 4003d ago )

In business it's not about second changes or having another try. Companies like Sega can Gearbox can make a few mistakes and take it on the chin, small development companies live or die by their decisions.

I don't feel sorry for them at all, it's just business people lose their jobs all the time. In the marketplace of ideas you better make sure yours are the best when trying to profit from them.

Jek_Porkins4003d ago

Everyone deserves a second chance, business or not. Do you not understand that game development is a fragile ecosystem at the moment? More and more developers are leaving console games, more and more people are saying consoles are on the way out, and here you are showing no pity when yet another developer closes up.

Are you a fan of gaming?

In this financial climate I'm amazed gaming companies are not going to the wall more frequently.

Section 8:Prejudice was a fun MP game made by them.

Roundtable: Games That Should Have Received a Sequel

Too many games aren't given a second shot. We at VGU choose which games we would love to see receive a sequel.

The Saboteur - criminally underrated and a fantastic mechanic of bringing colour back to Nazi-occupied Paris.

The article lists Bulletstorm, Sleeping Dogs, and Aliens: Colonial Marines.

Can't argue with any of those really, but I would add Resident Evil Operation Racoon City and Metal Gear Survive to that list. Both terrible games from good franchises.

Bulletstorm, I actually liked the gameplay but the atrocious writing and characters made me despise the game by the end of it.

I still play AvP on PS3 to this day. That game had fun multiplayer too.
