5 Reasons Why PS4 And XBOX Next Will Initially Suck

It's all well and good wanting, wishing perhaps for the next Xbox and a new Playstation console, but the reality is the desirability is often met with a number of pitfalls which present themselves to those who immediately rush out and buy them. In many ways, and regardless of how powerful, or feature laden the next gen consoles are, past experience should make consumers a little bit cautious. Here's why.

I think I have finally done it... I found an article that will unite both PlayStation and Xbox fanboys!

MariaHelFutura4003d ago

Yeah, we'll see about that. Lol.

"PS4 will suck less"

iGAM3R-VIII4003d ago

LOL I shall find one that unites, Playstation, Xbox, Wii U/Wii, and PC all in one, and they are the mobile gaming fanboys :P

MikeMyers4002d ago

It's usually the case with any new system. Limited software, first run titles that usually don't take full advantage of the hardware yet. Gimmicks trying to support new controllers. Online issues. Hardware issues, Prices for hardware are at their highest.

Some of those reasons are why I haven't bought a Wii U yet. I'm in no hurry to buy any of the new systems. I have so many games to play now as it is. I'd rather have other people be the guinea pigs and beta test the systems. They can go through all the headaches getting the games to run well and the system to run well. Plus the delays for new software. All while paying a high price for it.

I actually agree. The launch titles this gen won't suck like last gen. Shadow Fall and Second Sun ALONE make the PS4 a viable purchase at launch. Still, buying the first batch of consoles is risky since they tend to be the ones with reliability issues.

kayoss4003d ago

None of the things he mentioned are facts! "High hardware prices", where and when did ms and Sony tell him the prices of the next gen consoles?

The_Troll_Whisperer4002d ago

Better said is ''..that will unite both PlayStation and Xbox GAMERS!''.

I have spoken

Number 5 "Potential hardware issues"

I think everyone will have this in the back of their minds when deciding whether or not to purchase a new console on launch day. All we can go on is track record, we just have to be brave (or stupid :P)

NegativeCreepWA4003d ago (Edited 4003d ago )

That's why I get a warranty with every console I buy, learned my lesson with the PS2 and its disc read errors.

Unfortunately, none of my current consoles have one since Game Crazy went out of business.

Walker4003d ago

Next Xbox maybe but PS4, HELL NO !

Jaqen_Hghar4003d ago

since when can a walker talk? All your posts should be "*chewing noises*" and/or "*moans*"

Trying to be as objective as possible here, but I don't think any of these things are going to apply to PS4, at least based on history:

1. Sony has already stated that they learned from their mistakes with PS3 pricing:
http://gamingbolt.com/micha...
http://gamingbolt.com/micha...

2. Obviously there's no list yet of games being made besides the few that have been revealed, but I think we can all agree that Sony's whole "thing" with PS4 is "games". Lots of games. I don't see Sony pushing PS4 so hard with games, then not delivering. It would be suicide. Plus, with how friendly Sony is with indies, I think this should be the least of anyone's concerns with PS4.

3. PS4 is easy to develop for, according to many developers. Games never take 100% advantage of the hardware at launch, but there's no reason why a launch game being made for a PC-like system can't deliver quality games on launch from third-party devs.

4. This isn't even worth covering, but I can't say he's wrong.

5. PS3 had hardware issues, mostly because the video card got too hot if I understand correctly. But PS4 has a small APU that runs on little power, I doubt overheating is going to be an issue. Although that 8GB of GDDR3 RAM could put out quite a bit of heat later on, when devs start utilizing it.

These are just my thoughts, not trying to upset other gamers/fanboys, I just don't agree with any points the article makes (besides maybe #4).

jeffgoldwin4003d ago

@Monkey

That's not even remotely objective in any possible way. In typical fanboy fashion, you picked and choose only subjective opinions to support your console of choice.

It's why in your narrow brainwashed mind, you couldn't even fathom even 1 negative for the ps4.

I like a lot of things about the ps4 (even though some things still aren't finalized), but I'm not about to get down on a bended knee and propose to the machine.

Jaqen_Hghar4003d ago

and can a user offer any counters to his points?

MonkeyNinja4003d ago

I do prefer Sony, but I have good reason. And as I clearly stated, that was just my opinion. But can you give me a little feedback instead of just calling me a fanboy?

Yetter4003d ago

Just a quick retort as it is not as cut and dry as you make it seem. And it really all comes down to Sony's financial woes

1. They may have learned their mistake but they have also had problems turning profits for this generation. If they want to make the most powerful console, how much of a loss are they willing to take per sale.

2. Yes, Sony does want to seem to want to put their focus on quality games and this is great. I'm concerned that their strength lies in their first party studios which means Sony has to put up the capital for the game development process. Could be an issue if they don't have the capital to continue putting out quality titles.

3. Easy to develop for? This may be true. Where they may run into problems is MSFT has a big fat wallet full of windows cash and if they want to entice AAA 3rd party to bring their games to the xbox (even if it is just a timed exclusive) its gonna be tough on Sony.

5. There really is no way to predict this one way or another. I have faith that both companies are capable of producing quality hardware that will last for years to come but sometimes poor decisions to save a few bucks are made and they lead to disasters. I hope MS has learned their lesson. It costs alot more money to provide support to a faulty console than to just have a solid, stable design to begin with.

MonkeyNinja4003d ago

Those are good points. I'm pretty sure that it's at least going to be fairly interesting next gen, with Microsoft and Sony seemingly heading in different directions.

revben4002d ago

pertaining to #2. It is ironic that everyone is saying that the PS4 architecture is so similar to a pc. However, the rumored Next Box will be closer to a "gaming pc" than the PS4. As all current build of "gaming pc" has dedicated CPU/GPU memory. There are both advantages and disadvantages to both type of memory allocation.

jeffgoldwin4003d ago (Edited 4003d ago )

@Monkeyboot

Just have someone re-read my response 3-4 times then maybe you can understand, maybe...

"I do prefer Sony, but I have good reason" You have your reasons, not "good reasons". There are obviously pros and cons in every system.

"And as I clearly stated, that was just my opinion" This is a lie since you can scroll up and see this simple isn't true. You never mention anything as being your opinion, but instead claim to be objective and then we see the brainwashing take over with all the opinions presented as "objective facts".

You sir are the pinnacle of fanboyism, by presenting no facts, and instead, all opinions and heresay. Don't get me wrong, this goes both ways in that ms fanboys and Nintendo fanboys will do the same. The ignorance just gets old after a while.

hellvaguy4003d ago

@jeff

You called out a zealot fanboy all too well. However, hope is lost on this one. He is so far gone, he himself doesn't even realize it.

A lost cause do to disillusion and denial.

Hicken4002d ago

is how he starts his comment off. And then he proceeds to put very little personal opinion into his rebuttal of each comment.

When he DOES bring up his opinion is when you accuse him of being subjective. He admits his preference, but that doesn't mean he can't be objective. Your response to him was simply because he made a sensible argument for why, historically speaking, the majority of the points in the article may not apply to the PS4.

Nothing stated as fact, except those things that ARE FACTS. Like developers being pleased with the PS4's hardware, or how said hardware shouldn't suffer even the acceptable failure rate of the PS3. Or how Sony has said the PS4 won't have the high pricing issue of the PS3.

... seriously, what are you even disagreeing with?

Rageanitus4003d ago

In All truth ALL consoles suck! because there not many games out on initial launch. The usually start maturing at the 3 year mark where you have a ton of games.

The ps3 offered blu-ray which was great though.

hellvaguy4003d ago

Why, there were no Blu-ray movies worth getting until several years later when Blu-ray final won the format wars.

Now it's obviously the way to go, but idk a fair amount of people lose their ps3 to Blu-ray player repairs, so I feel it's best to have a dedicated/separate player for movies. Although I cant argue with Blu-ray being the future for gaming format due to the high capacity.

What, I thought this was dead after Shawn Layden left Sony. I would definitely pick this up if it's true. I have such great memories of playing the MediEvil games on PS1 and I played the PS4 remake. Such a great and underrated series.

Cacabunga1h ago(Edited 1h ago)

A rumored game at a rumored show.. we’ve seen it all

TiredGamer1h ago

Agreed. The first remake was stylistically beautiful and a very noticeable improvement over the original in every regard. And it was reasonably priced and sustainably developed (i.e. not some mega big budget game that was do or die for the developer).

Zeke683h ago

Thanks for the spoilers... :(

RonnySins2h ago

Another day, another remake. Ugh!

SonyStyled2h ago

If you played the original print I can see your annoyance. I didn’t and probably a lot others the past 20 years.

Was it any good? Would you suggest playing the original print of 2, or suggest the remake? Just wondering because I didn’t play the originals as I had an n64 at the time

TiredGamer1h ago(Edited 1h ago)

I played the first remake and absolutely loved it. The quality of life and control improvements were very noticeable. I tried playing the PS1 original and gave up halfway through at the janky controls.

Expect the same for part 2. The PS1 version is janky as heck, but I would gobble up an improved remake day one.

The beauty of this kind of stuff is that I find myself enjoying more retro gaming today, so a relatively low budget classic remake (call it a single-A release) is exactly what is missing from first party releases in the modern age. I don’t want every game to be an unsustainable AAAA endeavor that is just overwhelming in every regard. Truly miss when game releases could be modest-sized surprises and still be commercially successful/viable.

Bring on more quality classic remakes!

Knightofelemia2h ago

Such a good series I also wish Sony would dust off Wild Arms and Legend of Dargoon even the Legend series needs to see the light again.

Omegasyde1h ago

My bets on new Socom and/or Wolverine (since Deadpool 3 is dropping in the summer).

I think one after this state of play will be PS5 pro preorder
