PlayStation Plus Update: Zombie Tycoon II Free for Members

Your comparison is completely ridiculous. XboxLive Gold is explicitly for paying for the service of XboxLive which is MAINLY to play online, and fantastic side features like allowing you to pay for another service like Netflix. What a great deal right? I wish I could pay Sony to allow me to pay for Netflix, and the right to play the other half of my games that I already spent around $60 on. /s

PS+ on the other hand, is a service you pay for as well that allows you to have Cloud saving and automatic updates, among other things. Then each month you get to click the download button on games for free (where you aren't charged for each game), but you're only allowed to keep using them for as long as you pay for the service of PS+.

You DO NOT PAY for the games when you browse the PS+ section of the PSStore and click the download button. They do not charge you again at checkout. So no, they do not cost money, and no, that comparison makes no sense.

I'm still surprised people pay and defend paying for XboxLive. It's the biggest con move in the gaming industry.

He put it in perspective. Say what you want Live members but you're not getting VALUE when you compare to PS+ benefits. You're not getting VALUE if you compare to anything.

I don't care if you call them free games or not, they're on my system, I play them and if you divide all those games value through by the $60 we're talking pennies in "rental fees" to have them indefinitely.

That's not even considering the huge SALES constantly going on. You keep those purchases no matter what.

Which I don't see how it can be bad. I rent a game...OK. So I get PLUS and "rent" Infamous 2. In about 4 weeks I platinum the game. OK, so I have literally done everything in the game I could do. I don't need it anymore.

So I pay 50 bucks to rent infamous for a year. I also got little big planet 2 and Vanquish, spec ops and more. If I had paid 60 bucks a pop for each full game I "rented" I would have spent about 350 bucks. After reselling then on Craig's list I would be out about 250. So, at the end of the year I'm out 250 by owning the games and still have sold them or using PLUS i am out the 50 yearly fee BUT i didn't have to go to store, have to deal with craigslist to resell, got a ton of minis, cloud storage, discounts on other games and hour free trial demos. pLUS is a huuuge value to me. If people like LIVE more power to ya. I like PLUS and the value it brings me.

Renting is just fine for me.

Too much? i think the vita gets 1 free game a month compared to 3 for the PS3 (not counting cross buys). So 25% vita/75% PS3 isnt good?

I understand their business decision and I still think that PS+ worth it but every VITA games should be cross buy because not every ps+ member have a VITA but every PS+ member have a PS3.

You don't necessarily have to download it to continue to have access to it. You can "buy" it, cancel the download and re-download at a later time as long as you remain a PS+ member (even if it is no longer offered as part of the instant games collection).

I can see how people can assume the Plus advantage is a rental service because once you don't update your membership those games are no longer available to you however, the value of Plus extends itself well beyond that of a meager rental service and not to be offensive to anyone, but I believe those who take the rental position of Plus are rationalizing it because they don't have a PS3 or have never experienced it.

There are currently 17 or more full games right now that can be downloaded and played across the PS3 and PS Vita at no additional charge over the one year $50 price of Plus admission, with more game offered every single month. This of course does not take into account all the previous games which were available for download such as Borderlands, Bioshock 2, Spec Ops The Line, Saints Row The Third, inFamous 2, Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Tekken 6, and many more under the same $50 fee. If you added up the cost of purchasing all the currently available Plus titles including the games I've mentioned it would seem as though Sony is allowing user to steal from them.

The value is seriously that amazing. There is not a rental service on the planet that I know of that allows you to pay an annual fee of $50 and turns around and gives you back more than $1000 worth of content annually which you can keep as long as you make your annual $50 payment. For those who have Plus it is far beyond that of a rental service and more like an incredible value to acquire free games every month - which is exactly what it is.

OnLive has been doing something similar for the past few years. Their PlayPack is $9.99 a month or $99.99 a year and gives you access to currently 250+ games (a list that grows as they add games). One of the big advantages is they don't cycle games like PS+ (if you didn't download a game from PS+ after it's cycled out then you can't access it) and a game is only removed if there are conflicts with the publisher. Unfortunately there are many "casual" titles currently in the lineup but there are quite a few gems in there (Borderlands, Bioshock, The Witcher Director's Cut, The Witcher 2 Enhanced Edition, Oddworld Stranger's Wrath HD, Just Cause 2, Civilization V, etc). Hopefully OnLive picks up steam with their releases though because they've been lacking. A PlayPack subscription also nets you a 30 percent discount on any purchase from OnLive whether it be hardware, a rental, or a full PlayPass.

You make a great point about Onlive, their PlayPack subscription is very attractive. However, I find Plus to be much more attractive because new titles are more readily available on a monthly basis while being much more affordable. While Sony does cycle their titles, in the course of a year Plus delivers far more titles. Also, taking into account that Plus will also be receiving the Gaikai treatment across the PS4, becoming a more instant accessible service.

I still don't understand why some folks seem to get upset when someone else assigns a different value to a product or service and enjoys something they do not.

If Person A enjoys PS+ and thinks it is a good value, and Person B does not, then why would Person B get upset about Person A enjoying the service? It doesn't make sense to me.
