Valve not attending E3 this year

ValveTime sent out an email to Doug Lombardi inquiring whether Valve were attending E3 this year in order to show off Half-Life 3. The answer was blunt.

Personally I prefer to see Half Life 3 only when Valve believes it is ready and a true successor.

Didn't Valve fire a lot of their biggest talent a few months ago? People who were big creative forces behind games such as Half Life 2?

I've no idea what's going on at Valve, but I think they're moving away from game development to focusing more on the Steam store and their attempts at making a home console.

Of course, the latter can't be going very well if we were supposed to be seeing it this year and Valve is pulling out of E3 because they've got nothing to show.

A big mistake, I think. Valve got where they are because of the games that they made, so cutting back so heavily on software development is a very foolish move.

I think they make and show when its amazing and ready. If they show Half Life 3 now, then people push valve to relase it this or next year, but when nobody knows nothing about hl3, and then valve shows it, and its amazing, then it blows everything up.

They want to make sure that when they are going to show game, then this game is almost ready, and has final desain.

Valve thinks they are bigger than E3 so they will pull out a Valve Direct just like Nintendo. Its okay. I don't expect HL3 until 2014 or so at the earliest and that is a very conservative answer. Knowing Valve 2018 or beyond is their plan.

1. Valve NEVER really does anything for E3 so how is this News

2. E3 is for the CONSOLE KIDDIES although the best game at E3 will be some PC game but since E3 is all about the Console Kiddies the Console media will supress it just like they did PLANETSIDE 2 last year which was E3 best game.

3. Valve will be present at a more traditional PC Gamer event like GAMESCON.

4. AGAIN Valve never goes to E3 and E3 is for the CONSOLES se hence VALVE being at GAMESCON.

I give a crap about Dota 2. In fact, it's the father of which the MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) genre is beginning to hatch and evolve today. Too bad games like Dota 2 and League of Legends are incredibly underrated in N4G. Nowadays it's just more praise to Sony and its exclusives, love/hate (but mostly hate) for Microsoft, and mourning for the end of Nintendo.

Don't forget to add the "IMO" after your claim. I have played Dota 2. I've played LoL. Actually have quite a few hours clocked in. The main reason for playing those games is because my friends asked me to. I won't lie, they were not bad. But I won't call them the best multiplayer game. Why? Because I'm not a big fan of the RTS genre. My point is, people who love RTS', they most likely love Dota 2. But there are many others who just won't like it, no matter how much they play it. It's all about variation of choice.

It's not even cute anymore. I love almost everything Valve have put out, Half-life 2 and it's expansions being possibly my favourite games of all time and for a long while I could joke around about the delay in receiving Half-life 3 but it's just got too far beyond amusing. There's taking your time to get a game just right and there's allowing generations to pass before releasing it.

I'm not even talking about console generations either. We're at the point that many of the folks who played Half-life 2 have grown up and got families and moved on from gaming. It's beyond ridiculous. At this point they're not making us wait for the conclusion to their most important franchise. At this point we can just say that they just gave their most important franchise a crappy ending and moved on. So much for being the truly respectable company that really cares about creating important works of digital art. Dropping such a beloved franchise after a cliffhanger ending like that is far more disrespectful to the consumer than the money grabbing crap pulled by EA and Capcom. Valve, I loved you once but you disgust me now.

Valve rarely does anything but be silent till they can release something cool. I think anything they make is always ground breaking. Hope HL3 comes out with amazing physics engine. Mods are still being made on old source engine, so HL3 will explode with the community. When, if ever announced.

A fourth player is unnecessary But only if their goal are console players. If its the PC market theyre targeting then they may have a chance.
