Top Ten Franchises That Need to Make a Comeback

SuperPhillip Central writes, "It's common in the industry for franchises to take a hiatus, even if they're at the height of their popularity. However, in most cases a series is shelved after an entry in it has poor sales. Regardless, SuperPhillip Central has compiled a list of ten franchises that we'd love to see return and make a comeback, regardless of what system it comes out on-- PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Durango, Xbox 360, Wii U, PC, Mac, 3DS, Vita, or any downloadable service. Simply put, these ten franchises are ones that have just been away for far too long for our liking."

A healthy part of my Balanced Console Cycle is:

Link, Fire Emblem, and SAMUS

It's like a TRIFORCE of GREAT Gameplay.

Everything else is Dessert.

Metroid? Am I the only one that has Other M as his favourite Metroid? for wii <-
Nintendo always puts a game of all their franchises on any console/handheld they have, Metroid Other M and Metroid Trilogy were out of the Wii, it's not a comeback, it's just being patience over the next game.
King of Fighters 13 just released too.
Other than that, im f; sure i'd buy a new Megaman ( not Megaman Zero , sorry Zero fans but X is way better )

CouldHaveYelledUiiW4017d ago

@Etseix

Other M was (is) OK so far. Haven't completed it yet.

I liked the Primes way better but you are not alone in your love for Other M - I have seen other people who prefer it over Prime (few but some).

I like Prime but I do like what Other M tries to do. I hope that the next game applies some of the Other M ideas into a Prime format.

I have said it a million times (5 times) that I would like to see a Metroid that took on traits from:
Prime/OM/ Metroid: Hunters/Dues Ex/Prey 2/ Splinter Cell.

Instead of going to an alien world, make the mission that Samus has to find a way into a Skyscraper (in a living city).

She has to collect a bounty on the head of criminals ('Cause she is a Bounty Hunter).

-Instead of making one way give her many ways from the start.

Zero suit stealth.
Hacking (MP2)
Brute Force
or a combo of each.
(Negotiation would be fun too as Samus does not seem too socially adept.)
She could even use the Ship for Pursuit and or travel across a large city map.

-also, would like it to be after all the Metroids in the timeline.
Maybe Call it SAMUS.

minus the terrible pace-breaking idea of having to point at the screen to search and use missiles. Oh and without the bad voice acting and dialogue.

I just liked the third-person action A LOT more than the first-person action of the Prime games, sorry. That combined with the music, gave Other M a more classic Metroid feel to me.

I hope that whatever the next Metroid game is will be in third-person (with better writing and control choices) :P

Also a new 2D/2.5D MegaMan X would be awesome, as would another Chrono game. I can't believe SquareEnix abandoned that franchise.

TotalSynthesisX4017d ago

No Star Fox? Aside from the 3DS remake, there hasn't been a new Star Fox game since Command in 2006.

Phil324017d ago

Yes. Another great choice!

Nodoze4017d ago

We NEED another Star Fox adventure (just don't make it like Starfox Adventure).

The 3DS or WiiU would be great for a new original Star Fox game.

kirbyu4016d ago

No. The Star Fox games are terrible. Don't judge me.

WiiUsauce4017d ago

I can't see why Naughty Dog didn't make a Jak and Daxter game this gen. I would've much rather had Jak 4 over Uncharted 3 and Golden Abyss.

Phil324017d ago

I liked The Lost Frontier and Daxter on PSP, but it would have been nice to see Naughty Dog back on a true platformer. They seem to care more about making games as close to blockbuster action movies as possible now.

WiiUsauce4017d ago

I agree 100% with this list. Especially Megaman. A Klonoa game would also look gorgeous on 3DS in 3D with the awesome 2.5D visuals. I also want Advance Wars and Star Fox.

Phil324017d ago

Good picks, WiiUsauce. We were deliberating and deliberating so much on this list!

mydyingparadiselost4017d ago

The first Actraiser needs to make a comeback, screw the second one. Earthbound, Alundra ( again the first one) Lunar needs another entry along with Shadow Hearts, and what happened to Panzer Dragoon!?! The Xbox entry was the only I got to play and it was AWESOME.

HarryMasonHerpderp4017d ago (Edited 4017d ago )

Shadow Hearts 1 and 2 were terribly underrated in my opinion, excellent games. Would love to see a new Earthbound in a fully 3D world and a new Panzer Dragoon game too (I also only played the Xbox version and thought it was brilliant).
I would also like to see the Legacy Of Kain series make a come back along with, Klonoa and Parasite Eve.
Uh actually there are tons of series that need to come back the more I think of it!

Dino Crisis
Omnimusha
Megaman
Fatal Frame/Project Zero
Gex
Crash Bandicoot
Jak and Daxter
Legend Of Dragoon

Bethesda Needs to Reduce the Gaps Between New Fallout and Elder Scrolls Releases

Waiting a decade for new instalments in franchises as massive as Fallout and Elder Scrolls feels like a waste.

Microsoft have Obsidian but I feel it's Bethesda who just don't want to play ball as they've always said they want to do it themselves.

Once MS bought Zenimax in 2020 they should have put the Outer Worlds 2 on the back burner, allow Bethesda to finish off its own Space RPG with Starfield (despite totally different tone why have two in your first party portfolio with two developers who's gameplay is a tad similar) and got Obsidian for one of their projects to make a spiritual successor to New Vegas.

When the Elder Scrolls VI is finished Bethesda can then onto the main numbered Fallout 5 themselves.

The Outer Worlds 2 started development in 2019 so putting it on the back burner wouldn't have been the end of the world, they'd have always come back to it once Fallout was done and it would have been nicely spaced out from Starfields release once they had most likely stopped supporting it and all the expansions were released.

If they did this back in 2020 when they bought Zenimax and the game had a good, steady 4 - 5 years development, you might have seen it release in 2025.

We are literally going to be waiting until 2030 at the very earliest for Fallout 5 and all they seem bothered about is pushing Fallout 76.

RaidenBlack3h ago(Edited 3h ago)

Its not just only Todd not playing ball.
Obsidian have made a name for themselves in delivering stellar RPGs, but most famous once have always been sequels/spin-offs to borrowed IPs like KOTOR 2, Neverwinter Nights 2, Fallout: New Vegas, Stick of Truth etc.
Obsidian wants to invest more in their own original IPs like Outer Worlds or Pillars of Eternity with Avowed.
Similar to what Bluepoint & inXile wants to do or Kojima is doing (i.e not involving anymore in Konami's IPs).
So yea, even if New Vegas has the most votes from 3D Fallout fans, Obsidian just wants to do their own thing, like any aspiring dev studio and MS is likely currently respecting that.
But a future Fallout game from Obsidian will surely happen. Founder Feargus Urquhart has already stated an year ago that they're eager to make a new Fallout game with Bethesda, New Vegas 2 or otherwise. Urquhart was the director of the very first 1995's Fallout game after all.
And don't forget Brian Fargo and his studio inXile, as Brian Fargo was the director of Fallout's 1988 predecessor: Wasteland
