Phil Fish is at it Again: "You should Boycott Harder, Nerds"

Fez may have been an above average game with a great idea behind it, but the biggest name behind the game, Phil Fish, sure as hell knows how to separate himself from his fanbase. After early reports that the game itself runs incredibly badly on PC (it renders at 720p and has Xbox 360 controller images regardless of how you're playing the game), and talk of the Steam release being boycotted thanks to Fish's poor customer relations, the fact that it's still number #1 on Steam pre-release got the outspoken developer more than a little excited.

Phil Fish is beginning to build a track record for being very arrogant and disrespectful.

Edit: He was especially disrespectful during last years GDC when he went on a tirade about the Japanese. If he felt that way, then blog it. Don't disrespect them to their face in front of all those people.

Keep burning them bridges Phil.

matgrowcott4014d ago

Yeah, I'll be honest, I generally find that people take things a little hard when things like this happen. It's almost like they're looking to be offended.

Nope. This post was 100% arrogance.

Natso4014d ago (Edited 4014d ago )

Yeah; I'll just wait for its indefinite release in a future Humble Bundle.

I'd rather give money to a charity, than to a donkey scrotum like Fish.

Blacktric4014d ago (Edited 4014d ago )

We should make a Fish Phillet out of him!

UnSelf4014d ago

But Fish doesn't Phil me up

HammadTheBeast4014d ago (Edited 4014d ago )

It's the destiny that the Fish must FullPhill.

ucellps44014d ago

I think he's going the way of MS...

dcbronco4014d ago

There he is. We needed a douche comment. You the man. Or is your name Phil? Hmm?

Th4Freak4014d ago (Edited 4014d ago )

I have to disagree, fanboys and sensitive people are hating on him because he says what he thinks, he said that 3DS wasn't the right platform for Fez, Nintendo fanboys rage and bash him, he says that Japanese games suck, J-fans rage and bash him. I hate Chinese games so what? Do I have to reserve my comment just because i'm afraid a group of kids get hurt for what I THINK? Please...

Do even people remember what freedom of speech is? His game will sell well because only internet trolls are hating on him. There are thousands of people that are hated on internet because of nothing, just because a bunch of little kids were bored and decided to trolls someone.

I do agree that his post is arrogant however that won't stop me from buying Fez, its not like I have to hang out with him or something, I'm interested in the game not him.

Yodagamer4014d ago (Edited 4014d ago )

So we have to give him respect and not use our freedom of speech? While he can out right trash people, good devs, and platforms with his. Congrats on that logic.

Yi-Long4014d ago

... you only have to respect HIS 'freedom of speech'. That doesn't mean you agree with WHAT he's saying, or HOW he's saying it, but just the fact that he's ALLOWED to say it.

That's what 'freedom of speech' is about.

And if you don't like what he's saying, or the tone he's using, you can use YOUR freedom of speech to call him whatever you like, you can use it to call upon others to boycot his games, or whatever.

dcbronco4014d ago (Edited 4014d ago )

@Th4Freak

There's freedom of speech and there is doucheary. If you don't understand a culture, it doesn't mean you should just bash it. Even if you just don't like it, still no reason to bash it. Just because you're "free", it doesn't mean you have to be "dom".

Th4Freak4014d ago (Edited 4014d ago )

@Yodogamer Yi-Long said it all.

@dcbronco Well I don't see how he's being a douche he's just really defensive and besides as far as I know being a douche isn't a crime, the best example is the Westboro Baptist Church, these guys are complete retards (in my opinion) and they're not in jail, they're not banned from say what ever they want or anything.

People forgot what debate, constructive criticism and tolerance are, there's no need to insult someone to express a disagreement, its very obvious that Phil is just being hated by fanboys and trolls, because if we're going to talk about terrible customer relation and being a douche EA is on the top of the list however I don't see the same behavior pointed to them, why? Because its easier to hate and troll a single guy than a big company.

dcbronco4014d ago

@Th4Freak

I'm not saying it's a crime, but it shows a lack of character. Westboro Baptist Church is a trashy church that needs to go away. It attacks a bunch of innocent people for the crimes of a few flakes. There is nothing wrong with debate, it is the most important thing a society can do. But when it turns into demonizing and bashing those you disagree with based on them belonging to a particular class, it becomes a far bigger problem then the perceived problem.

The trashy church is just against Islam in general. That makes them trashy. Islam is no better or worse than Christianity. But when you bash based on stereotypes, lies or blind hatred, you're the problem. Freedom isn't the right to oppress.

ZombieNinjaPanda4013d ago

He has the freedom of speech to be a dick. I have the freedom of speech to call him a dick.

chrismichaels044013d ago

This is a business. And in any business, the customer is always right. If a customer says "you're an idiot", you politely smile and apologize and promise to do better next time. You swallow your pride and go count your money.

It doesn't help this guy is walking around acting like he has a major multi million selling blockbuster franchise like Call of Duty (for example). The guys talking about a mini arcade download. If big developers like Naughty Dog or Bungie can respect the gaming community, so should this guy.

dcbronco4013d ago

I'll never believe in the customer is always right thing. Too many customers are a-holes trying to get over. If people were a more classy species then sure. But people are often trying to get over. At the same time companies are too and try much harder than people to get over. So you have to pick and choose who is right and when.

Th4Freak4013d ago (Edited 4013d ago )

@dcbronco That's exactly my point, haters are not any different from WBC. Its funny because a guy from Kotaku made an article talking about this and he says almost the same things I do. The problem is that Phil is one of these guys that won't take sh*t from anyone, if you hit him he will hit you back and bullies hate that.

Just like I said before there are tons of d*ckheads out there like Donald Trump, Mitt Romney, Chris Brown, John Mayer, Jesse James and if you want to take it to video games we have EA, Robert Kotick, Olivia Munn, Tomonobu Itagaki and Peter Molyneaux so why isn't people boycotting the real douchebags? Well I explained it in my previous comment.

@ZombieNinjaPanda Good for you, maybe you will understand my words when you get older.

@chrismichaels04 No, that's something a boss say to the employees but isn't true. And I would love to know how is Phil disrespecting the community, if he think that Japanese games sucks well thats his opinion, if he don't like the 3DS still his opinion and his last post its obviously addressed to the kids that are hating on him, so no, the guy isn't disrespecting anyone he's just defending himself from these kids.

its like he wants EA spots as public enemy number 1 in this industry

whamlollypop74013d ago

I respect him saying it out loud going and blogging it is cowardly. I watched this documentary on indie games and the developers of meatboy were goddamn weird.

Yodagamer4014d ago

The guy sounds like a jerk and i could see why his partner left him a while ago who wants to deal with someone who seems so psychotic in a stressful environment like game development. sadly he is a jerk who gets money, but thats the way it is in alot of cases.

ApolloTheBoss4014d ago (Edited 4014d ago )

LMAO yeah keep it up, Fishy Boy. Karma's a b*tch.

HarryMasonHerpderp4014d ago

Wow what a massive troll lol.
I'll be making sure I don't buy any games from this guy again.

Root4014d ago

Yet theres people in the world who would kill to be in the place he is today

Some people don't deserve success

Th4Freak4014d ago

So you're saying that he doesn't deserve success for his work but his attitude?

Natso4014d ago (Edited 4014d ago )

You mean all of the work he ISN'T going to put in to ensure that Fez's PC release is up to par?

Or how about the work he put into fixing the XBL version's save issue?

Th4Freak4014d ago

How do you know that? Can you see the future?

And about the Xbox version I don't see how Microsoft expects a Indie dev to pay $40,000 for a patch.

Review - Fez (Switch) | WayTooManyGames

WTMG's Leo Faria: "In short, Fez is as good now as it has always been. The reason I call this version the best way to experience this indie game is mostly due to the perfect combination of the Switch’s portability and its screen being much larger than the Vita’s. This is easily one of the best indies ever made, and one of the most important games of the past decade. Even though a lot of younger players only know it due to its troubled development cycle and some post-launch controversies, Switch owners should definitely pick this game up. This gem took an eternity to arrive on the system, but it feels right at home on it."
