Nomura: The situation on Final Fantasy Versus XIII within the company is very delicate

You’ll have to wait a little bit longer for information on Final Fantasy Versus XIII, according to Tetsuya Nomura.

Joining in on the inaugural episode of Square Enix Merchandise Radio, the game director and character designer was on-hand as a special guest. Naturally, the other staff present couldn’t help but ask about when the next details will be revealed for his elusive project.

“It’s a delicate situation within the company,” explains Nomura. “The date for our next reveal is set and we are working toward preparing information for that.”

I was thinking that too, but delicate situation might have to do with Wada not wanting to let go of Lighting and Final Fantasy XIII, so Nomura had to wait his turn. About multiplatform, my guess is that if the development has moved to next generation consoles, I don't see why it won't end up on the next Xbox too. It would be a really big surprise if its announced for the PS4 and stays exclusive.

I understand your point, but I still don't think it moved toward next gen at all. I don't see Square Enix as the company who would scrap all they've done so far on a title to get a better result, that's basically why FF XIII sucked. It wasn't because it went multiplatform, but instead because of how they dealt with it.

They should of had gone back to the drawing board when they decided to go with 360, even is they had to scalle stuff down they could add world map, npcs, cities, etc (as many other 360 games have that), but instead they just ported whatever they already have done to 360 and continued the development from there.

They are lazy!

I will be p***** but only because I see it as Wada's plan to hold it off this long ONLY BECAUSE he wanted more money for a multiplatform release, which if it's true and we had to wait longer just for money interests thats why I would be mad. Nomura said it was a PS3 exclusive and wouldn't come to the 360 but Wada probably found a "loophole" and decided to hold it off till next gen.....I mean at least then it holds true to Nomura's word that it wouldn't come to the 360 since it would be a next gen game.

Wada loves money...he's gone now but the things he set up for future events still need to be played out.

How many other games were held back in order for developers to get a better hands on with the PS3? This is why it's so nice to see Sony finally come to grips and change the design philosophy for the PS4. Rumor has it Sony is co-developing this title so I expect this game to be a PS4 exclusive. I also expect a much better production rate on the PS4 with less delays and less hassles.

TGS isn't as relevant today as it was 10 years ago, so unless they wanna revive it and start next-gen the right way i dont think FFVsXIII will make it to TGS.

Like almost everybody here i'm thinking E3 with next-gen gameplay this time and a release date. Square Enix cannot afford to delay the game too much anymore so the idea Sony is helping with the development would be a great deal for SE and RPG fans (the game needs to be good of course)

They didn't invest in this gen early enough, they kept milking the PS2 for too long before starting reinvesting in a good game engine.

The real beginning of the end was letting go of sakaguchi to form mistwalker.

Mistwalker have been so quiet for ages I wonder what they are making at the start of the 360's life they made RPG's for the Japanese launch, I would love to see another Lost Odyssey.

They didn't understand this gen's hardware well enough. Didn't know what they wanted to get out of it.

Since FF7 they've likely been sliding towards pretentiousness, accepting that they could do no wrong since many fans including myself were openly saying such, and very much proceeded to do wrong in the worst way. And Sakaguchi wouldn't have stopped it. It started with him and the most wrong thing they did: sinking all their money into a cutting edge movie studio then betting its success on a lukewarm movie with FF slapped on it.

Though if not for that mistake Sakaguchi likely wouldn't have learned to explore his creativity again with Mistwalker. For as long as MS's added cash let him make games, which were then largely squandered on the 360 which, like the PS3, had excessive production costs.

JRPGs just had bad footing this gen. Were unable to leave old ways while new were too expensive.

There seems to be some sort of gag order on Nomura from the higher ups that deny him to say anything about the game HE is making.

I still believe sometime half way through development the game was moved to the PS4 which makes me think since it was the producer of FF vs.13 Shinji Hashimoto doing that awkward announcement that the FF game he was talking about is indeed E3. With Nomumra saying that they have a date set also say that an E3 announcement for the re-reveal of the game will happen.

It also doesn't help Nomura since he has to play 2nd fiddle to Toriyama since he (for some reason) is in charge of the Final Fantasy series & his 'game' takes precedence. Like look 3 of his games are gonna be released BEFORE Final Fantasy vs.13, don't know about you but that is messed up.

Nomura WANTS to talk about this game cause if you look at his past games he has shown & talked about it a lot. Both Dissidia's, Kingdom Hearts 3D, 3rd Birthday, Crisis Core, Type-0 all have received quite a bit of info prior to release.

This gag order also makes me think that the game is now a next gen (PS4) game & if that rumor about Sony financing it may also possible Sony has something to do with this silence.

That's how it's been this generation. The complete mess known as FFXIV has stalled development on every other HD title. Nomura said himself a few times that he wished to talk about the game but couldn't yet. They have a very particular schedule just for releasing information on games, hence why we only hear about one title at a time.

I still remember Yoichi Wada statement from last year, when he said our jaw will be drop and we will fly to the moon if we see the latest build from versus. But after that...you all knew SE don't give us shit, not even one new screenshot, except Nomura trolling statements with the same broken line like "i can't give you any details right now", "the date of the next revealing already decided but we don't know when (LOL)", or the famous "fans have to wait a little longer (like 7 years longer, LOL)".

Personally, i don't give a shit anymore to this game. This year alone, there's a lot of promising game with solid release date that i'm willing to give my money on day 1. The Last of Us, Dragon's Crown, Tales of Xillia, Beyond 2 Souls, Killer is Dead, etc etc. So i'll reccomend to people who still waiting for Versus: just...let it go. Find another game that really deserve your waiting and your money. And from the "it's a delicate situation within the company", i think the new CEO will cancel this game.

People don't get to hyped up about e3. Why would they announce Final fantasy versus at e3, that would completely overshadow FF 13 Lightning returns and would make Lightning returns possible salesnumber dropp considerably. SE probably doesn't want that. I'm guessing that if we are lucky Ligning Returns will be release around summer or fall and then probably the earliest announcment for FF 13 versus is at TGS unfornately.

After all those years of waiting for FF 13 versus I'm not so optimistic about it anymore, but if SQ suprise me and we get a release date for FF verus at e3 then I would be ******* happy.
