Worldwide Sales Chart for Week Ending January 12, 2008 (Without Japan)

VG Chartz has just released there worlwide sales estimates for hardware and software excluding Japan.

Laugh at the vgchartz fanboy fantasyland numbers once again. Vgchartz just got bïtchslapped with real numbers for France today and were finally forced to fix their as usual massively inflated 360 numbers and undercounted PS3 numbers - although they in a final bit of 360 fanboy defiance refuse to use the actual number for France are are still inflating the 360 numbers a bit.

Ever since the PS3 started outselling the 360 in worldwide sales the Xbox fanboy, ioi, at vgchartz.com has been in full scale damage control mode trying to keep the 360 numbers close to the PS3 in worldwide sales.

Gamers are getting tired of these Xbox fanboys in the media crap.

Enough with the bogus sales numbers at sites like vgchartz.
Enough with the bogus comparison videos at sites like gametrailers.
Enough with the bogus review scores at sites like EGM/1Up.

I hate to say it, but when they include Japan the ps3 will most likely see a significant jump in sales. I just checked last week and the ps3 sold about 74k and the 360 sold about 12k.

Anyway this is kinda pathetic anyway. Vgchartz is usually incorrect and whether or not your pro ps3 or 360, you shouldn't fully depend on this particular site as solid proof of a point.

Also the n4g article says itself. VGchartz "estimate" (keyword here) for week ending blah blah.

But yea just wanted to throw that out there. If ps3 sales are even close to last weeks then the ps3 has won once again in worldwide hardware sales. Funny though that the site fails to mention they don't have numbers for japan yet.

Hope the numbers for Uncharted are true and it is indeed at 800k and even better, hopefully it will reach 1 million soon. The game definitly deserves it.
Also, hopefully the numbers for AC are also true. That game deserves to be a true best seller.

Those numbers aren't updated, the hardware # are, but the software numbers aren't....

PS3 outsold 360 last week by 80 K or so, assuming PS3 sells relatively the same this week in japan, it's looking like it's only outsell 360 by 40 K this week.

dang wii is definetely the bigest new console sold last year up to recently cause most who playing the wii are senior citizens and kids few are teens and adults then on ps3 and 360 console just the adults and teens few kids the SC they found it way to complicated to play. well dont underestimate the little ones. but i still like my ps3 and 360.

nice to see that the ps2 is still getting above 100k sales every week- thats quite a feat for a console with no particularly exciting games scheduled- and the price cut to £50 will probably boost it above all next-gen consoles for a few weeks (well maybe not the wii)

For all of 2007. It would only be fair if they started "hating" the 360 now displaying poorer sales figures. Maybe game reviewers will switch too and start giving 360 games lower scores and PS3 games higher scores to even out all the bias from last year. I for one would like to see the wrongs righted. The 360 in its second year has managed to sell, with all of its really big hitters coming out, just 7.3M units. The PS3 with only a handful of big hitters and competition on both sides from Microsoft and Nintendo (that remember the 360 didn’t have in its first year), has managed to sell in 14 months 8.9M units. Europe still has 3-4 months of sales yet to reach one year. So if we take the 8.9 as it stands now and include 3-4 months of Europe sales it will probably be about 10-10.5M units by April. But we’ll take the initial 2 months of Japan and America sales that cover Nov-Dec of 2006 off that figure to give us a rough indication of global sales for the year, and your at about 9-9.5M units after one year.

That’s approx. 2M unit difference for the PS3 compared to the 360 after one year.

This year, PS3’s big hitters arrive, so lets say Sony manage to increase that gap for 2008 by 2M more units, as those titles will probably shift a few more units.

Now, if the 360 sells the same this year as last year, that’s 7.3M units to add to its 16-17M units it already has shipped, that equals approx. 23-24M units worldwide by the end of 2008.

If the PS3 sells 2M units more this year over its first year sales, thats:

9.5M (first years estimated global sales) + 11.5M (2M units more for 2008) = 21M units. Add-on the initial 1.3M units we took off for Nov-Dec of 2006 for America and Japan and your at, 22.3M units by the end of 2008.

Even if we say next year those big hitters for PS3 have NO impact and the sales remain the same.

9.5 + 9.5 + 1.3 = 20.3M units. So the gap between PS3 and the 360 would only be about 2 to 3M units by the end of 2008. Now thats just estimates, but you see the general direction this is going, and thats just after one more year of sales. Even if the differences in sales are half of what i’ve just estimated them to be, it would only be 1.5 to 2 years away that the gap is closed. So, 2009 could just see the PS3 take the lead"

Sweet man, PS3 sales have picked up since the price cut...no more lagging behind by 70,000 lol. I can't imagine when the price gets closer to its competition and at least ONE big games drops. There are good things coming for the PS3.

These numbers are pretty decent.

Without many AAA titles, and the best yet to come, PS3 got a slow start but i believe it will change, Xbox360 is also doing well, and the Wii.

Actually I think 2009 will be a better year for Playstation 3 than 2008

Why...because, we still need Home, Little big planet, more games for gamers like me, who like Ico and Shadow of collosus, instead of MGS, GT, Killzone, Resistance.

The only platform game I got untill now is Ratchet and Clank:ToD

Hard to compare the first year of the 360 sales with the first year of PS3 sales - the 360 was basically sold out for most of the first year. In that regard, Sony did a better job and was not sold out as long.

The real question is what kind of sales are we going to get at the current prices. $300 or $400 is still pretty expensive. MS can more readily drop the price of the 360 than Sony can drop the price of the PS3. So the question in my mind is what effect the price differential will have as the PS3 starts to provide a complete game category.

But no matter who you are, you have to love the competition. Without it there is no way you would see the PS3 at $400 or the 360 at $350 with two games. I expect the arcade version of the 360 to be about $200 by the holiday season, with the real xbox 360 coming in at $250-$275. The PS3 will be at least $350, if not lower.

While the big names for the PS3 start to roll out, there is less of an advantage because some of the biggest names are cross-platform (GTA IV). So I think 2008 is going to be a very interesting year. I expect Sony will still be at least 4 million behind because right now Sony is only catching up worldwide by about 100k-200k a month. But unless MS does a serious price drop soon the gap will narrow.

Im guessing they are waiting for some special event like GDZ in Feb or the release of GTA4 for the price drop ..... but sucks that in over 2 years the best they came up with was a 50 buck price drop while the PS3 has had like 2 price drops within the first year.

Its at a point now, because of Blu-Rays victory, the PS3 is looking way more attractive now... and the 360 really needs to show a difference in price now. I mean an elite is more than a ps3?? i'm definitely a 360 owner/fan but if I was in the market now, i'd just get the ps3 since they are priced almost the same but at least comes with blu-ray.

MS should just drop all skus except the arcade, drop the arcade to $199 and start selling hard drives of different sizes at cheaper prices.

xbox 360 = 207k
PS3 = 281k

Approx sales including Japan (using last week Japan sales as an approximation)
(Last week the sales in Japan, xbox 360 = 12k, the PS3 = 74K)

xbox 360: 128k + 12k = 140k
PS3: 111k + 74k = 185k

There are countries outside of the USA you know, global sales are what counts. So, its, "Check to Sony"

And the Wii is beating both Microsoft and Sony in hardware sales, so I guess its actually "Checkmate" to Nintendo, to use your terminology.
