Here's Why Mass Effect's Villains Were So Excellent

Kotaku - Sometimes it got difficult to remember what evil looks like in the Mass Effect games.

Godmars2904029d ago

And so wasted since the story became secondary to shooting and character scenes.

Sovereign/saren were the best. ME2 didnt have any antagonist other than "assuming direct control". And well we know how bioware drove the trilogy into the ground soooo. Enough said.

Here's Why Mass Effect's villains Were Forgettable.

Saryk4029d ago

One of my favorite games of all time, pure awesome!

ME1 & 2 had interesting villains, ME3 not so much.

TIM was a truly interesting villain, but in the end he was reduced to a confused blubbering fool.

Kai-Leng was a cowardly and annoying guy who looked cool but really wasn't. I remember the first time I saw him I thought 'Wow, now he is interesting', but then he started talking and I thought 'Oh, never mind, he's just a douche'.

The reapers were scary and cool until they weren't anymore. Another villain reduced to pointless thanks to bad writing.

Strangely the only villain I kind of liked was the clone from the DLC. Sure it was a clone, and the mission was too short to really get into it, but the idea of an evil clone actually made sense within the ME universe.

In the end ME was a great series that was totally devastated by a few bad writing choices. After all the drama died down, I went back and replayed the full series, and although the ending still let me down, I still think it is an adventure worth taking.

I think totally devestated is an overstatement. The 3 games are all some of the best games this gen. A moderate ending to a great series doesn't ruin the series.

Personally I think the ending was horrible, though the EC slightly improved it, and the Citadal DLC improved it slightly more, I still find it highly disappointing, but I can respect that others may feel differently.

Good games but no Phantasy Star?

merlox331d ago

Why do people forget Phantasy Star? That is one of my favorite RPG series. Another ther good but overlooked series is ,Y's.

ES3 set things off, it's a shame they got greedy and decided to cut corners so the executives could get huge pay days.

Better not bring back Shepherd from the dead with some half assed space magic.

Snowb420531d ago

If you get your readiness level high enough in Mass Effect 3, *spoilers* you can see Shepard taking in a breath of air under some rubble. It would depend on whichever ending is canon.

Where is my ''Indoctrination Theory'' and ''Destroy'' ending gang at?

FPS_D3TH530d ago

I came here to say the indoctrination theory absolutely solidified the ending of this trilogy for me in the best way

@snowb420.
Yeah I saw that at the end of my play through as well. I think they will bring Shepard back….. or at least a mutant version turned villain. Lol
