Dark Souls 2 - New Engine, Runs At 60fps On PC, 30fps On Console No Drops

OnlySP - "Great news for Dark Souls PC fans awaiting the sequel. A number of foreign language sites are reporting that Dark Souls 2 is being developed on an entirely new engine with PC as the lead platform. As a result, Dark Souls 2 will allegedly run at 60fps on PC. The gameplay footage that was released the other day was also running on PC, and it looked fantastic, which is very promising."

Yay now I don't need to install mods to run the game smoothly. Wait PC as lead platform? I hope that means they found success with Dark Souls on PC.

silenius4025d ago

Does that mean that we might see Dark Souls 2 with 60fps in the next gen too ? oh god please make it true!

allgamespc20124025d ago

they confirmed dark souls sold 300k copies on PC alone, which is three times the petition, that was enough to get ds2 on pc as lead platform.

such a bad port but still sold those numbers a year after release on consoles. dark souls 2 could be a million seller if they do it right

Skate-AK4025d ago

It probably is.

"Whereas the PC version of Dark Souls came out months after the console versions, Dark Souls 2 will launch simultaneously on all platforms. The hands-off demo of Dark Souls 2 that we saw was also running on PC hardware, as well."

Tr10wn4025d ago

Wow really? i was hoping it was a console version to be honest the game look like shit some times, here hoping for mods...

Blackdeath_6634025d ago (Edited 4025d ago )

its easier to develop for pc then reduce the texture quality, rendering distance and other stuff so that it runs on console then port it over. after all, games are developed on pc's for consoles. if you are making a game for the pc aswell it only makes sense to make the pc the lead platform then refine it to consoles rather than make a console the lead platform then having to redo all the textures in higher res all over again. the petition was really successful this is really good news.

They'll just find something new to whine about...

SideShort4025d ago

Other than the mere existence of consoles? Didn't know they complain about anything else.

Welcome2Die4024d ago

PC gamers were complaining about the resolution of the game after it had been ported. After that they complained about the difficulty of the game to the point where the developers contemplated adding an easy mode to the game.

porkChop4025d ago

Ah, so the gameplay video was running on PC, which is the lead platform. Well that explains the graphical jump.

tubers4025d ago

I noticed that the demo had plenty of SSAO just about everywhere and there was a lot and pretty good dynamic shadows once he entered the chamber w/ the torch.

Had a hunch it was PC.

MikeMyers4025d ago

Great to see more developers branching out to the PC.

ThichQuangDuck4025d ago

hope it runs 60fps on next gen. I feel fps is important on dark souls. Really all games should aim for 60fps on next gen consoles locked then worry about graphics after

Despair6664025d ago

Cant believe that just a year ago we pc gamers begging for a dark souls pc port and now we have dark souls 2 coming with pc as the lead platform :)...these are good times

Hidetaka Miyazaki claims Dark Souls 2 “carried” the series forward

Dark Souls 2 remains a divisive entry in the landmark RPG franchise, but Hidetaka Miyazaki believes it led to the success of Elden Ring.

The game isn't good though.

Rols53d ago

DS2 was fine. While there was a bit of recycling assets or ideas for bosses, it was a bigger more open Dark Souls. The Fume knight boss is one of the hardest bosses in the series until Sekiro and Elden Ring were released.

CrimsonWing6952d ago

The problem with Dark Souls 2 was the same problem when a different director takes over for a sequel to an outstanding movie. It typically (there are exceptions) doesn’t have the feel and vision of the previous movie.

I wouldn’t say Dark Souls 2 is terrible. Had Dark Souls 1 never been a thing and we got this, I think it would have been praised more. The problem is it didn’t have the Miyazaki touch to it and felt pretty derivative. The soundtrack is a banger though.

Aussiesummer52d ago

And it will happen in the future when he doesn’t touch them as he is planning on.

MrBaskerville52d ago

I like DS 2, might even be my favorite of the 3. But it's a hard sell, there's so many obscure things you need to do to make it an enjoyable experience. So always find it hard to recommend, but it is worth the trouble.

All the bosses are only from Dark Souls. No Bloodborne, Sekiro, Elden Ring, or Demon Souls
