3DS will become an unstoppable monster this year

I'm excited for what is coming to the 3DS (for the record, I'm also excited for the Vita, since I own both). Pokemon X/Y will be the first Pokemon game I dig into since...the original Gold/Silver, I think.

Sadly, I will probably pass on MH4. This is coming from a guy who played MHF2, MHFU, and even a partially-translated MH3, all on the PSP. I've sunk over 600 hours between those three games, but after all that time, I'm ready for a truly next-gen MH, and that includes dual-analog camera control.

No, I'm not talking about graphics. What I'm saying is that I've already invested over 600 hours into the "old style" (for lack of a better phrase) of the Monster Hunter franchise. From what I have seen, MH4 has new monsters and a few new tricks, but it is not the evolutionary step that I, personally, would like to see. It is just another "old style" Monster Hunter game with single-stick controls, cell-based maps, and so forth.

Anyone who wants to jump into MH now, go for it! It's an awesome series. I hope you get at least 600 hours out of it like I did. However, I've done my time and I'll give my hours to other games until MH decides to innovate again.

i don't know which game you saw, cuz MH 4 will have the old monsters and is revamping the way you play.

you will prolly have to relearn half the game again because is way more dynamic than before with way more ways to fight the monsters than before, and the monsters now using the scenario to attack you.

you should go see a hands on of the game, and when you see a tigrex bringing down a wall just to you lose balance on top of it, you will understand just how much "next-gen" this game is.

MH3U on wii U and 3ds(with cpp) have dual analog camera controls! And on Wii U it looks awesome in 1080p! Me thinks you should get it :)

If you want a comfortable grip it helps alot i keep it on even when the game doesn't support it. It's that comfortable for me. Not to mention it helps with some games.

Wow look it all those Disagree's, Sony fans all jelly because Vita isn't on top like they thought because it has better everything inside cept 3D. Whats that? Vita just needs games? You can say that about Wii U and any other system that starts up... I bet you the PS4 will be in the same slump as the Wii U if not worse because it will be such a high launch price like the PS3, but look at the PS3 now it's on fire.

What's really cool is that Nintendo "FINALLY" are combining 3ds studios and Wii U studios so that transition/connection/communic ation between 3DS and Wii U games will be more seamless and better marketable... Thats my first thought, as my second thought is; I wonder if they can do the same thing with the Wii U? Nintendo President has already stated that Wii U start is similar to the DS' so I just wonder!

All im saying is people are most looking forward to new consoles. Nintendo needs pokmon and monster hunter to make some noise.

The 3DS is already "making" noise, so it doesn't exactly need either of those games (in fact, I'm pretty shocked that the new generation of Pokemon is releasing this early).

I'm not trying to **** on the PS4 or 720 either; I think they will both have good holiday seasons should they release around September/October. I just think that, given how well Pokemon sells in general, and the fact that these new games will be 3D and released simultaneously in all available territories, will skyrocket 3DS sales throughout the entire holiday season.

The 3DS is a great device but in an industry where pushing hardware is most welcome is it not unsettling that the 3DS with the specs it has is dominating the Vita that is pushing hardware?

There is no denying that the 3DS is leading cause of the power of Nintendo's brand recognition with its 1st party games & experience in the handheld market. However i ask is it time for Nintendo to push the envelope more with its handhelds? Everyone is moving to HD/high resolution screens, multiple cores, increased graphical capabilities etc.

Is it really ok that Nintendo is still being too conservative with its hardware & will it still work in the future?

In case some are thinking this is a negative post its not, I'm just wondering if Nintendo gamers are content with what they have & are you guys not wanting Nintendo to push it more.

Nintendo tends to push sideways, not forwards. They finally accepted discs as the standard for consoles, but then they went with the odd mini-discs on GC. They finally got sick of being last, so they pushed the Wii's motion capabilities instead of its hardware prowess. Nintendo saw the PSP and smartphone market encroaching on the GameBoy brand, so they pushed sideways and made a bizarre dual-screen system. They pushed sideways with the 3DS's 3D screen, and they pushed sideways again with the WiiU's tablet controller.

Their strategy doesn't always work out in the end, but at least it's....unique.

I agree with this. I will add though, that if Nintendo had waited a year to finalize the 3DS hardware, we would have definitely gotten a handheld that is at the very least more capable than the current 3DS (the current models are based on 2010 smartphone/tablet technology, and mobile tech considerably spiked in performance in 2011).

IMO I think they rushed out the 3DS because they needed something to stimulate more positive income since both the DS and Wii were basically dead platforms.

My problem is all the things they have said in the past and acted like were never important but now are trying to do those exact same things they said they would never need or would be popular..

Online gaming for one, they seem to be focusing on that a lot more than they had initially talked about.. They go on about how it won't be their goal, then immediately start talking about all the online stuff they will now be doing.. and how important it is.

I mean what the hell make up your mind. Sometimes I feel like Nintendo just changes, simply because they realize their way isn't working anymore. I feel like if the Vita ever did actually start competing with the 3DS by some magical ray of hope, then here comes a new handheld by Nintendo..

Just like the Wii was not cutting it anymore, so they made the Wii U. Now they barely make any Wii games anymore, sure some good ones have come out recently but the support for the Wii now is pretty close to none.

Kind of upsetting they put so much effort into the 3DS yet just leave the Wii behind when people still own and play the Wii, yet they will invest money into making a Wii mini instead of just continually supporting the device better?

Sometimes I really don't get Nintendo or how they go about business.

Exactly, something for a long time has bothered me about Nintendo being the most successful by a huge margin and still constantly putting out the weakest hardware, that is always cut down. Then to top it off, they always have some lame excuse for why it was made cheaper..

Like when asked why they didn't bother putting a second analog stick on the 3DS XL, the acted like it was some huge deal and was just impossible to do because the 3DS XL would have to be bigger.. Did I miss something? It is bigger period, would it really have mattered considering it has XL in the freaking name.. Last time I had checked that meant Extra Large.

No, did I also miss the fact they are selling the Circle Pad pro, which literally makes the 3DS look like a sail boat.. I thought they couldn't add that second stick? Too much battery drain and makes it too big, but you will release a crappy attachment that does the same but worse and doesn't even work for every game? Why don't more Nintendo fans have a problem with stuff like that?

Funny the Vita managed to do it just fine and I can almost put my life on it that Nintendo's next handheld will be just as big if not smaller than the 3DS XL and have a second analog stick finally..

Nintendo has the handheld market on lock down, I don't usually buy the competing handheld because Nintendo has never lost a handheld war, they always come out on top, even with less powerful hardware.

Vita is good too man, just because its losing to the 3DS doesn't mean squat. I know sales are everything to you people, but the Vita is just better, the network infrastructure, second analog sticks, OLED screen, indie games and the ease to voice chat with a party on the fly.

You can keep your sales with Mario, Luigi and the whole gang. You got to look at all aspects not just sales or am i wrong ?

@ Etackett2010, be a little fair to your Vita, wow! Your 3DS is getting all your love, no mention of Dragons Crown ? That game looks better then all the games you listed combined.

I don't hate the Vita or anything, but I don't own one, and unless the price drops significantly I probably wont get one anytime soon, especially with the next Xbox and PS4 right around the corner.

I think the Vita seems like a nice piece of hardware, but the handheld race was over before it started, it seems like Nintendo is the name people trust and look to for handheld games, at least in my opinion.

I've never invested so much into a handheld before. I probably had 10 DS games and 10 PSP games during their entire life time. I am probably going to have 40 3DS games by the end of the year. I am also showing the Vita some love too, just got Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward in the mail. But playing these games on the Vita and 3DS, I am starting to pick up some old DS and PSP games like Persona 3 FES.
