I really agree with the article, Consoles are finely tuned machines they can achieve great things with lower spec hardware as their tuned to work in harmony.

So you can have tuned system or raw power system, somewhat like intel vs amd. Intel has the tuned tech while amd has the raw power in the PC world. I am yet to see how the PS4 will turn out to be.

I'm a PC gamer, but I also love my PS3, but what I have seen from my fellow PC Gamers is saddening. PS4 I believe can be compared to a mid-high range PC from the specs I've seen. No matter what though, I will always love my Playstation for those great exclusives it always gets!

This is the issue it's specs if it were a pc, would be mid-high at best. BUT IT ISN'T A FUCKING PC. So therefore it IS achieving similar graphics to a high end PC (note GPU's like titan im not counting as high end but as 'elite' a class above the rest-put you pay the premium for that. The point is the bridges that cause problems with pc gaming and slowdowns on pc rigs do not exist on PS4.

On a pc you need more powerful hardware to get the same result.

Ok so I'm not going to say anything against any of the consoles at all, however, I will speak up for my PC. The reason why some games run slower is because developers intentionally optimize a title for the console based on the programming language they utilize. Meaning that if game developers focused on programming titles on Linux like they are supposed to, rather than trying to program on Windows, the games on PC would far surpass the games on console. However, that's the biggest difference. The thing you have to notice is how well the data is handled on the PC and the Ps3. The PC ported titles are far worse than the Ps3 is because of how badly each code is refined. It has nothing to do with the hardware, because in the end, people yet realize that hardware work with a software in order to make it as optimum as possible, rather than cheap façade.

What are you talking about? Battlefield 3 was customized for all three consoles very well, one because it's a huge multiplayer franchise, and two, because Dice has a reputation to uphold in PC gaming.

Also, if you are making the argument that Xbox 360 architecture is similar to the PC's architecture, you are clearly mistaken. Battlefield 3 for the PC runs better than the Xbox 360 version is because of the hardware that's inside the Xbox 360. The Ps3 is able to tolerate this because of it's overall better hardware. The PC is able to bring better graphics, gameplay and overall networking because, one it's a PC, and two, Dice definitely worked hard on the PC version as compared to the other two.

And on topic: The PS4 is not at all a high end PC. I have a decent PC with an i7 and only one GTX680 and not one single game on PS4 will look or perform better on the PS4 than on a good PC that is allready one year old.
I am a SONY fan, I really am. I own two PSPs, two PS2s and two PS3s and a Bravia and I was among the SONY defenders when all the Xbots came over SONY and when Gabe Newell told SONY to scrap the desaster, the PS3 was in his eyes.
It's absolutely ok that you guys are happy that a new console releases soon, but all your knowledge on tech things is nothing but the result of hype creating misinformation.
The PS4 will be a dedicated games machine. And it will be limited like anything is allways limited. Actually you're wrong. The PS4 will be a huge improvement over last generation, though it's still playing catch up to PCs - that's okey though, PCs double their power every 18th month, a console could never keep up with that, it's however unimportant. Games today are generally made for consoles and PCs gets ports, sure we do get a bit better bling and higher resolution but it's really quite underwhelming for what the hardware really can do.

"PC elitist" as you all call them is actually quite happy about the PS4 (I know I am) cause now, finally, after playing games that looks the same it have been for at least 5 years we will get something fresh and improved, something our hardware can take a bite out of having being starved on crumbs for so long! I adore the PS4 for that (even though I'll probably never buy one).

The problem is that it's actually mostly the "PC elitist" who have knowledge in hardware since it's of interest to us when we upgrade and so on, and it's not really for consoles due to their static nature. I understand that you can't build a 1500$ and sell it to the masses and unless you're a stupid child sitting with a PC or an unknowing console gamer you probably wont know that.

PCs are already today more powerful than the PS4 and Nextbox, also a fact: It doesn't matter - Let's just all be happy that we finally get an upgrade in our great gaming universe!

What is important to see is they set the limit of the resolution and framerate so if you stay in certain limits every thing should work just fine.

It is good hardware but once the benchmarks start his argument falls apart because high end pcs and even mid range will be running unreal engine 4.

And is easy since the PC has bottlenecks and the PS4 does not, it does have limitations like you say their limit as we know so far is for those good visual the game has to run 1080p 60fps and to even push better graphics they could even work on 30fps or 720p.
The PC like always has the raw power that maybe onl one game every 4 years may use and that one game is just a average I can bet. Console games without the jaggies is pretty much where PC games are at the moment. If I were a PC gamer I would welcome the innovations in AI, Physics set in Rich Game Worlds that will be driven by the next wave of consoles.

Don't get me wrong I'm not knocking PC's but the industry is driven by Consoles and the spec they put down is the spec games are tailored to for the next 5 years, you can smooth out the jaggies increase the frame rate but the experience will be the same.

I do not understand why PC gamers are so angry that the PS4 was designed to be similar to a PC. It's what the developers wanted. If developers want a console to have a structure like a PC shouldn't you guys be happy about it cause it gives a higher chance that more games will cross over.

Since many developers use consoles as lead platforms for their games having a PC infrastructure means better performance on all systems. Look you guys are getting games like Dark Souls 2, Metal Gear Solid GZ, GTAV & many more that in the past would've never made it over to PCs & if it did there would be performance issues like what happened with Dark Souls original.

War Thunder, Natural Selection II, Chivalry Medieval Warfare, Company of heroes series, Primal Carnage, eurotruck simulator (lol), farming simulator (further lols), Arma II & III, warframe, Hawken, Carrier Command, Skyrim (modded), Planetside 2, Red Orchestra 2, Star Conflict, Sins of a solar empire rebellion.

And those are just some taken from my steam library not to mention the thousands of games getting pushed through on greenlight and the large number of independent games popping up.

PC has a bright future and a fantastic roster of games that people try to down play because they havent seen them advertised on TV.

War Thunder pushed boundaries by introducing a flight sim experience to a broader audience, It also evolved in game economies seen in games like world of tanks and it has evolved the free to play marketplace.

Natural selection 2 is a unique blend of RTS and FPS like a blend of counterstrike and starcraft if you will and it pushes methods of teamwork with a commander relying on the FPS players and vice versa.

Chivalry is one of the very few first or third person medieval combat games with an intuitive combo and blocking system making use of keyboard and mouse flexibility and also innovating in the multiplayer melee combat genre of which there is virtually no games.

The Company of heroes series always have great historically accurate campaigns following the stories of commanders during WWII and the difficulties they faced from all perspectives, it also features incredibly deep combat with each unit performing realistically i.e inexpereinced soldiers will panic and become less effective while vetern troops are far more valuable and they perform far better. The new company of heroes also features weather effects which threaten to freeze and kill your men as well as disabling your vehicles i.e a tank can get snowed down and stuck.

Eurotruck Simulator while being a joke to some actually allows users to level and build up their own trucking business and perform all sorts of complicated business tasks as well as being given full operation of a truck.

Farming simulator is actually incredibly in depth and goes right down into the details of farming while again a joke to some it is so expansive you simply cannot sum up a sim game in a paragraph.

The arma series makes battlefield look like a childs play ground with literally thousands of interactions and movement options and virtually limitless ways to approach an objective, it also features a mission editor and mods which always push gameplay.

warframe is another free to play title which tries to freshen up the third person genre by adding unique ways to traverse the environment such as wall running, back flipping and it also hosts a unique way to upgrade your character and it can be played co-op.

Hawken is an online mech game that pushes for multiplayer and it also innovates throug unique mech abilities and builds upon and improves drastically upon other mech titles.

Carrier command is an RTS were you can jump in and control your units yourself and you have a game of cat and mouse trying to find the enemy carrier and destroy it through an archipelago of islands each offering unique resource bonuses.

Skyrim with mods speaks for itself really with people creating whole new adventures within the game, look up moonpath to elswer.

Planetside 2 is a massive FPSMMO with thousands of player per server all fighting over several continents....if that is not pushing gameplay I don't know what is.

Red orchestra 2 is yet another sim and to in depth to sum up in a paragraph yet again but it is the first shooter in years to be able to build atmosphere and tension in a multiplayer round.

Star conflict is like war thunder except it is in space and has a few of its own gameplay quirks like corporations you can fight for.

Sins of a solar empire is an RTS that is simply out of this world, you start off with small resources and one planet but you have to expand throughout an entire galaxy or star system basically building an empire as you go. It is to big to comprehend.

Dont try to downplay a platform just because you are annoyed I have completely and utterly proved you wrong. Backed up enough for you?

Look, for the money the consumer is expecting to pay (£300-£400) for a PS4, I would suggest that it is damn good value for money, considering the hardware is good for at least 5 - 6 years.

The last of Us and Beyond are running on 10 year old tech, since the components existed before the production of the now 7 year old PS3.

Ask any PC evangelist to build a gaming PC to the equivalent of the (archaic) PS3 for £199 from scratch. Include Blu Ray drive all components/case etc...

If Im going to listen to anyone its the devs. Its great you have expensive GPU's and whatever but what theyre saying is they have it all on one chip.

Unlike a lot of gamers here who are probably held back by cheap motherboards, cheaper slower ram or as usual either the GPU or the CPU is way overpowered for the other.

At the end of the day who cares? If you like RTS games, dont care for split screen, and enjoy the hobby of pc gaming and dialing up different settings, go for a pc.

If you want the exclusives, split screen, and easy ecosystem to use, get a console.

-pc versions are almost always the definitive versions which can have features not available on consoles
-mods that can do wonders like improve sound, graphics, provide new free maps, new skins, or completely make a game new and different (example:counter strike & Day Z just to name a few)
-3 times more exclusives that console players can't have
-more genres that appeals to all gamers from niche, mainstream, to complex/hardcore
-more online multiplayer options (dedicated servers, private servers, LAN support, control over restricting gamers with laggy connections)

My cousin has a nice rig, now where near high end but maxes out all the games he plays (mostly mmos). He is currently playing it just a few feet from me but has no sound, he didn't bring his PC speaker system I gave him. It doesn't have a HDMI hookup....or wifi or blue ray or blue tooth something the PS3 has had since 2006. He probably isn't gonna upgrade or rebuild for another 2yrs as he just built it barely over a yr ago.

Stop talking like a majority of PC gamers have the high end rigs with all the bells and whistles with the most up to date tech. Most DON'T. Hell my one friend bought Diablo 3 for his older basic PC (from 2005-2006) and could not play it.

Ok I created an account to hopefully shed some light to you bunch of biased idiots lol.
I may as well start and say I play PC on my high end gaming pc pretty much all the time. I do own both an xbox and ps3 and play both from time to time.
The many reasons I play PC games instead of consoles is because of these reasons:

1. The graphics are noticeably better, and no im not just saying this, having both games on the pc+console next to each other helps a lot too.
2. Its not just about the graphics, 1 prime example is FPS (Frames per second). The higher the numbers, the smoother the game looks and the better/easier it plays. Playing games online also benefits greatly from higher fps, first try playing a game on 30fps then with 60fps. Then bump it up even more to 125 then to 250. You can kill easier and you dont 'miss' or shoot through people as one example. Racing games also look great on a high refresh rate monitor/TV (120hz+).
3. Modification/editing also plays a large factor in one reason I play PC games. One huge example: if you would please youtube gta iv icenhancer. Basically you can make a lot of games look EXTREMELY better than the stock standard game. Skyrim is also a huge example as well. The mod scene is huge for that game and just adds so much more depth and life span.

There are more differences but no point me typing too much on my phone haha.
Personally I for one cannot wait to see what the PS4 will run like as well as LOOK like but based on what I have been reading lately it SOUNDS like it will be similar to a mid-range PC which im sure most "PC gamers/fanboys" here are going on about or trying to explain. Just wait to see what it is like when its released instead of whinging over crap that some have no idea about. Hey it may even exceed my expectations purely because I have seen the huge differences PC's can have.

Traditional MMOs (specially with huge population) still is better with keyboard for rapid typing, broadcast and better ergonomics.. While consoles have mics, that wouldn't work well on a typical MMO plaza.

I have been using a keyboard with my PS3 since I got it in early 2008. It is great to have for MMOs. And every PS3 can use USB, Wireless or Blue Tooth keyboards. Oh and if you have a newer Sony TV you can even use your smartphone to control your PS3 and type.

I think whats being missed is the reality that the PC will always be one step ahead of consoles based on the fact that once a new console is released, it is already headed for obsolescence hardware wise, because it is a finite design without an upgrade path beyond perhaps the hdd size. Whereas a relatively good pc to start, can be upgraded as needed as game demands evolve in terms of gpu, cpu, memory, etc. Consoles are restricted by the limitations of the hardware as they age, and games become restricted by those limitations, whereas most games that are now pushing the limits of the current gen of consoles, can be run comfortably on pc's that are not high end expensive gaming rigs, a few years old even, and still will exhibit better graphics, etc. I own a ps3, xbox360,as well as a gaming pc, and will more than likely buy the new consoles as they are released so I'm not approaching this as a fan boy of either, however just making an honest observation.

The thing about consoles is this...

When you write a game for a certain console with fixed hardware specs, you're going to be able to maximize the performance of the machine.

This is why The Last of Us looks so good, and it's running on a 7 year old system.

It's all about optimizations.

Now, to a certain extent, developers will optimize the Windows version of the game as well, but it seems like they don't work as hard on the optimizations because they figure people can upgrade their hardware to get better performance out of the game.

I mean, why do some PC games require a really expensive rig to play some games, but the console versions run just fine? It's because a lot of games just aren't taking advantage of all the power of the PC.... It's more like you have to have an even more powerful PC to run the bloated code (GTA IV for example).

Also, about framerate... I'd rather have a rock solid 30fps game than a game that runs 60fps sometimes, and dips down to 30fps sometimes. Framerate fluctuation bothers me a lot.

One more thing... I hope every game next gen is triple buffered. I'm tired of screen tearing and I'm tired of framerates getting cut in half from using double buffered v-sync.

I would agree to a certain extent, but imagine how "The Last of US" would look on a relatively mid range pc, because ultimately it is still being restricted by the limitations of 7yr old hardware in the console, even being optimized for a given console. I am running a new gaming rig, everything is brand new, except the gpu, which I am using my old one until I decide on what I want. So my gpu is a good 4yrs old which means it is now three gens behind the current gpu's. Even still it runs BF3, Tomb Raider, Crysis 3, and almost everything I throw at it on high to ultra settings at more than acceptable fps. So my point is that I'm running current games with a bottleneck (old gpu) and it still outperforms consoles where these games "maximize" the performance of the older consoles. I own both consoles(ps3/xbox) and some of the games both on console and pc, so I have done comparisons first hand. PC games have minimum and recommended hardware requirements for most games, so taking advantage of the power of the PC, is only relative to the hardware in the PC itself.

Probably has something to do with the fact that most Sony fanboys are constantly in every Nintendo and Microsoft related articles singing from the rooftop of how great the PS4 will be... It's not that there is no General interest in someone commenting in a Sony related article. It's that fans tend to sensationalize the truth into something that its not! I myself am very interested in the PS4, but I also don't think that it's the "second coming" like most of the fantasy island dwellers do on here. This system will either succeed or fail. It will be a great console from Sony, nothing more and nothing less! But that doesn't guarantee that it will automatically set things on fire when it's released. This is a product of a free market society and every new item is subject to these kinds of obstacles.

The PS4 will be somewhere in between. I find it funny that PC elitists are bashing the PS4 and calling it a low-mid range PC. Hello!! It's going to be a $400 to $500 gaming console. Of course it won't come close to the power of a $2000 plus PC. I will never game on a PC, it just doesn't feel right. The same goes for using a console to browse the web.

It actually feels awesome to game on a PC. I use my PS3 controller and I can only say that the controls feel much more responsive, and the graphics are much better.

I played Dark Souls, AC3, Tomb Raider, DMC, Rayman Origins, Skyrim, Trine 1 & 2, Crysis 2/3, Portal 2, F1 2012, NFS Most Wanted, FIFA, Bioshock Infinite, etc. etc. They all play beautifully on the PS3 controller.

Since the PS4 is not a PC it's hard, maybe even wrong, to categorize it that way. When the games hit late 2013 early 2014 we'll see what it's capable of.

It's globally agreed on among console owners that the PC is an expensive (if you want it to) platform to invest. Yet, it's the PC that console makers are emulating all these times especially with next gen. The PS4 is said to make game development easier thanks to the PC architecture it's copying while MS's Windows 8 is an blatant attempt to lock down the PC experience to the 720.

The PS4 is built using modified mobile APU from AMD, so what's stopping AMD from releasing a better version of those hardware for the PC later on? Since the plan (taking on the PC architecture) was for the PS4 to be dev friendly so won't that make AMD's future hardware - a Steam Box, perhaps- be great for PC gaming? I don't think AMD could afford to keep the rest of it's line of hardware stay stagnant while Intel and Nvidia move forward. If a company that makes PC hardware can make GDRR5 compatible hardware for consoles using PC parts then I don't think it's impossible to apply the same tech to the PC. Which means AMD's hardware derived from the PS4/720 would be available for the PC crowd. Thanks to the similar architecture that mean a lot of console ports would run great on those new hardware.

Which would lead to Sony and MS pulling game exclusivity against the PC. Sounds familiar...

Lol at all these hardcore PC gamers acting like they know what the ps4 can do based off the spec's. For the last time like all the devs has been saying even AMD themselves stated you can't look to to same level compareble spec's on a pc and say "hey that's how ps4 will run" These devs know way more than any of you ppl in here. So I'm a take GG's word on this one over any PC gamer who has no type of idea what it's like making games for a console. You guys act like they're saying ps4 is the most powerful machine or something lol. He's stating facts and I have yet to here him say anything overhyped about the PS4 so you can throw the whole first party PR crap all you want. But you have other devs who are not first party devs as well who are stating ps4 as more than a low mid range or whatever you fanboys hope it will be for your bragging rights.
