Batman: Arkham Origins Promises “Expanded World” Plus Series First Gotham Streets Setting

RipTen writes: "Arkham City was fairly open to begin with so how much larger will Eric and his team go with Origins? Will the "sandbox" approach grant us the ability to not only explore places we haven't been able to in previous iterations but also allow us to freely make use of elements we couldn't before, such as vehicles etc?"

Nostradavis4024d ago

If vehicles are introduced in Origins, would you want to see that?

Yi-Long4024d ago

... but only if they do those vehicles justice. They will need to a: have real function, instead of just being a gimmick to list on the box, and b: they need to be FUN to use.

Nostradavis4024d ago

Good point. My concern is that it ends up feeling generic and the stealth aspect of the game is lost.

OcelotRigz4024d ago (Edited 4024d ago )

Exactly Yi-Long. I know if they expand the world it would be pretty strange to have a huge city with no vehicles and with the freedom of an open-world game it would be just weird to have batman in his costume walking along the street, cars driving by.
Its going to be very interesting, im a huge fan of the other two, they have an old school gaming feel to them, remind me of games i grew up playing. Pity Rocksteady aint doing it though, that has me a bit worried.

SPAM-FRITTER-1234024d ago (Edited 4024d ago )

If they do vehicles i hope its kinda like Just Cause, flipping from car to car and fist fighting on trucks would be sweet. Make the bat cape like the parachute in Just Cause so you can eject from a fast car to build momentum for better height and flying distance.

FragMnTagM4024d ago

New remote claw that is like the grappler in Just Cause 2
- Batman targets two objects and fires out a claw
- This hooks into the first object and launches another claw and rope to the second object
- Can then pull the two objects together
- Use this to knock enemies together, slam heavy objects into foes, string objects or people under a perch
- Can string up an explosive barrel under a perch, lure enemies with a sonic batarang, then cut the rope with a normal batarang, dropping the explosive on their heads

Not sure about the vehicles and cape being like a chute, but that gives a glimmer of hope to it.

if done right an thats not a easy thing to do they kinda have to if you ask me natural progression. they should (most would disagree) make it complicated rather then just driving down a high way dogging obstacle's. it should have dynamic change in environments underground over grown jumps

but all in all i think they should just stick to what they been doing. some people will trash the game if this is not done right dlc maybe

Don't like it don't buy it. If I think the game is good, I don't give a rats ass who made it.

Genuine-User4024d ago (Edited 4024d ago )

Theoretically, what if the game was created by a bunch of serial killers?

I understand what you're saying though, we should only worry if the game is in development at a crap studio.

LOGICWINS4024d ago

Not all serial killers are bad

<3 Dexter :)

OcelotRigz4024d ago

@Genuine-User

If its a good game, who cares.

Look around your room, the plastic comes from oil, think about where oil comes from and how its obtained. Your clothes, how is that made? Your food?
If you want to go deeper, unless you live in either the north or south pole, the chances are your house is on land that was pillaged somewhere down the line.

So yeah.... i forgot what my point was.

Deku-Johnny4023d ago

WB Montreal know what they're doing with the series though. They were the ones in charge of the Armoured Edition of Arkham City.

browland14024d ago

I like what I've heard about this so far. The Batman Arkham games have been top quality so far, so I'm expecting great things from this one as well.

RedDeadLB4024d ago

They have a good idea with this, but let's hope their execution is top notch as well.

Jek_Porkins4024d ago

People act as if developer teams stay together forever, I'm sure a good portion of Rocksteady's team from the first Batman game weren't there for the second. This new game is using all the assets and engine that Rocksteady left, these are professional developers, the game will still be solid.

The best Batman Arkham game still isn’t on PS5, and that’s a problem

Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League is almost here, but I can't revisit the best Arkhamverse game on PS5 without sacrificing quality.

Not a fan of Orgins. Blame it on the absence of Conroy & Hamill. Blame it on the lack of atmosphere compared to Asylm. Hell blame it the devs thst dicked over Wii U owners like me that purchased the game only for support be dropped as a thank you to me. It's better than Knight but that's not saying much. I don't care for that entry either.

Rebel_Scum91d ago

tbh buying a game like that for WiiU should’ve been an obvious non-purchase when it existed on better hardware.

Cacabunga91d ago

Origins is amazing..
my favorite Batman is Batman and Robin on mega drive.. an HD REMASTER of that would still look glorious

ZeekQuattro91d ago

I got it launch. Kinda hard to go back. I'm supposed to know they were going to drop support months after the fact. 🤣

Exvalos91d ago

You sound like a salty fanboy, that it didn't come to your precious plastic of choice. It's not the developers fault Nintendo continues making underpowered hardware. It's our fault because we keep buying it. Yes I say (we) I'm part of the problem as well.

ZeekQuattro91d ago

I have a PS3 and a Wii U. How was I a salty fanboy? I bought the game on the system I wanted it for.

Rebel_Scum91d ago

Nah my comment has nothing to do with whether you’d know or not that they’d drop support.

Buying any AAA game of that era for a WiiU you should’ve known you’d be sacrificing graphics and load times.

LucasRuinedChildhood92d ago

It's solid but Origins is definitely not the best Arkham game.

LoveSpuds91d ago

Smacks of hyperbole to me, talk about clutching at straws to create some drama around PS5!!

generic-user-name91d ago

Titles like these are designed to get you to come in, go to their comment section and tell them how they're so wrong so they can boost their numbers.

Phoenix7691d ago

Even though its not the best arkham game in the series, its still an enjoyable game in its own right. What it do really well at though, was the crime investigations scenes. Which imo, were the best of the franchise.

goldwyncq91d ago

I don’t know about best game but it definitely has the best story and boss fights.

boing191d ago

Never played it and recently I've finally tried it via cloud on psn. It's not the best for sure, but it ain't bad either.

Batman: Arkham Origins - Open World Busy Work that Doesn't Hold Up 10 Years Later

Batman: Arkham Origins launched 10 years ago today, and sadly doesn't stand the test of time as well as its predecessors.

Petebloodyonion172d ago

I fail to grasp why this title is worse compared to Arkham City (according to the article) as the author didn't provide any argument to explain why aside from that it felt the bigger map compared to Arkham Asylum made the experience less tight.
More importantly, the author seems like he never played Arkham City since he described the game as linear (alongside Asylum).

The Unjustly Forgotten Batman: Arkham Origins Deserves A Resurgence

Despite certain flaws, Batman: Arkham Origins is a splendid entry in the legendary Arkham series and deserves better than being forsaken.

lellkay285d ago (Edited 285d ago )

It's the worst of the three in my opinion, but still really enjoyable. Definitely underated and gets far more crap that it deserves.

Should be included with the other Arkham games in the bundle.

Demetrius285d ago

I'm honestly enjoying it alot, my first time playing since I just decided to get a Xbox 360 slim for 65$, I cop some other gems too tho, I went into Arkham origins not expecting better than Arkham city but it does deliver plus the guy who voices batman did a good job aiming for the young Bruce impression
