They still need time to send in there polished turd version for reviews.

Even the preview period will be used as a test... Meaning even if that review is bad don't worry we promise the finale will be good...

How much you wanna bet they produced this for way below their take from the suckers at kickstarter, and pocketed the rest?

Ron_Danger4026d ago

Considering all the tech already existed since its just an android device that connect to a tv, they didn't even have to do much R&D.

For all the people that fell for this kick starter: you already have a smart phone, you already have a pc, why do you need this?

yewles14026d ago

Speaking of Cell Phone, did you know they're making yearly iterations of this with updated specs? Why get the launch version?

Double_O_Revan4026d ago

So you screw over the people that funded you in the first place by making and rushing crappy hardware for them, only to say it'll be fixed for when it really matters?

I was fine backing an xbmc/emulation unit for 100 dollars even though my computer is hooked up to my tv. The thing is also pretty tiny, but the controller is a bit weak, which is why I'll opt for using my dualshocks 3 controllers :P basically this will be my new modded xbox.

Also, people need to think outside of the box and see the Ouya as a new development platform. Of course many of the early titles will be mobile ports, but it's kind of like how the Wii-U is using mostly PS3 and xbox 360/pc games for the large portion of their initial titles...

I have a dev device and have been on the forums and testing this thing from day one, including testing their sdk. Some of the games I've tried have been pretty fun and definitely ported and built for controller and tv in mind. Definitely some promise here, but I don't think it'll be actively competing with the big 3 consoles, more like catering to hackers/casual gamers. They need to work on their credit card purchasing system, it's broken for developer payment options.

I had the LaserActive... it was a nice collectors piece but not very practical. Especially when it came to needing recapping. I think i paid all of about $50 for the floor model from an incredible Universe back in the day. I ended up selling it many years later for $300 at the time due to it needing a new laser and the aforementioned recapping.

An honorable mention not on the list would be the VM Labs Nuon. It basically looked like any regular DVD player but it had ports on it for controllers to play specific games. one of which is still exclusive to it with Tempest 3000. It also offered nuon enhanced DVD movies with extra content not accessible by regular players.

How has this article missed out Sega's Dreamcast and Nintendo's Wii U, two consoles that were actually superb devices in their own right, but were seen as failed due to lacklustre sales at the time of release?

Knightofelemia1572d ago

Wonder how long before Stadia appears on the list surprised the Ngage is not on that list

I enjoy these kinds of articles.

Talk about a blast to the past.......I remember trying the virtual boy at Toy R Us and it was cool but I did feel slightly disoriented afterwards......good article.

That's pretty cool they were able to bring it back. It sucks when something online only gets killed.

I got mine when it first launched, however it wasn't good for anything other than retro emulation. I couldn't sell the thing fast enough. Managed to get almost all my money back selling it on eBay.

Just let go homies. It was DOA

JEECE1603d ago

I guess the Stadia launch is bringing back memories of other failed consoles/services.
