Digital Foundry: "At last week's GDC, Kojima Productions revealed its fifth entry in the Metal Gear Solid series, The Phantom Pain, also incorporating the previously announced MGS title Ground Zeroes. Precisely how the two fit together is currently uncertain, although Hideo Kojima himself has suggested on Twitter that Ground Zeroes acts as a prologue to The Phantom Pain and that the two are bridged by a period where the game's protagonist is left in a coma. Then again, Kojima is a master of misdirection, so who knows? The one link between the two we are sure on, however, is that they are both running on the ambitious new FOX Engine, initially unveiled with Ground Zeroes last year, and that the game is set to feature a radical overhaul of the traditional MGS gameplay set-up: Snake's new adventures take place in an ambitious series of open-world environments."
PES will finally transition from the Fox Engine to the Unreal Engine, and the game will allow for more realistic player models and animations, enhanced physics, photorealistic visuals, and much more.
Is this the end for Kojima's hailing Fox Engine?
That's great but for gods sake let's have a new commentary team with all new dialogue and more intelligent analysis. Great way to make a game feel stale out of the box when they're saying the exact same stuff they were five years ago.
Commentary isn't important in itself but it's an example of how they leave some things to stagnate while focusing on tiny improvements in animations.
What if Metal Gear Solid 3 (argubly the best in the series) gets remade in MGS V’s FOX Engine. YouTuber kur ko04 gives us an idea. While definitely not official, it certainly looks pretty beli…
well... I guess it would look like the jungle parts of MGS5
At the opening of Kojima Productions' Los Angeles studio last week, studio head Hideo Kojima withdrew a 2011 statement indicating the company's internally-developed FOX Engine would be available for licensing to schools and small developers.
Looks one of the best technical achievements for this current gen consoles !
It's amazing they can still squeeze out great power from current gen.
Wait is what we are looking at current gen or next?
Cuz the sh!t looks next gen to me
I see all these developer demos running on a pc while trying to convince the lemmings that this is what the game is going to look like on current consoles. Come on. If that was the case, there would be no need to demo your tech on a pc. There is no way MGS V is going to look that good on the 360 or the PS3. Especially not if it's being optimized for the PC and next gen consoles first, and then ported. And since all the tech demos are on a pc, it would seem that is the case.
Eh Kojima has a very talented art department, just look back at peacewalker on PSP, they made a game that competes with games on hardware twice as powerful.
I can notice some hidden little blemishes, like in the hospital, the railing is actually just a square with good texture work, making it look round. or the fact that the character detail is almost pure normal mapping. But this isnt a bad thing, great looking game from what weve seen, its just no technical marvel. Looks like to me they cut out a lot of shaders, and just piled on the post processing.
