I really hope those negative reviews from people who got the system early are just blowing smoke. I want it to be good, I want to buy one, but now I'm honestly a little hesitant...

zeal0us4038d ago

for $99 its a decent device for something that can stream videos(netflix, hulu, hbogo or etc) play games and run countless emulators.

FF3 on Ouya compared to other android devices really isnt improvement. Graphically it looks the same. Then again I wasn't expecting SE to give the Ouya a improve version anyway.

gameangel4038d ago

It's early days for OUYA. it started from Kickstarter and without loads of cash to get big AAA games, it's relying on the enthusiasm of indie developers.

It'll remain niche for a while yet, but eventually it will snowball.

And, let's face it, it's a cheap entry price at just $99.

Godmars2904038d ago

With intent to put out a new model every year so as to keep up with technical trends.

In other words, games offered on model 2 wont be playable on model 1.

gameangel4038d ago

It'll be just like iPhone/iPad in the sense that in real terms, most users won't need to upgrade each year. probably every other year.

I get some people don't like this, but I'm fine with it.

I'll just keep playing, until eventually the machine I own starts to chug a bit with the latest releases. Then I'll pay $99 for an upgrade. Not to sound snobby or anything, but $99 is nothing.

darx4038d ago

But it's omly $99...$40 more than current gen games. Not that outrageous!

spoonard4038d ago

Depends on how often they switch out the chipset. Ouya initially ships with a Tegra 3. But mobile chipsets are evolving at such an incredible pace right now that by the time the next model Ouya ships backwards compatibility may be an issue.

gameangel4038d ago

I think OUYA plans to go from Tegra 3, to 4, to 5 etc, and this will be on a yearly cycle at most.

Backwards compatibility will not be an issue. the only issue will be when you start to play new and advanced games on old hardware. At that point, you upgrade. easy.

then, years down the line, your console experience has managed to keep up with advances in tech, but you've not had to do the usual console thing of buying something completely new that needs all new games.

DeadlyFire4038d ago

I don't think backwards compatibility will be an issue. Forward compatibility might be though.

Its a nice business model really. A great way to stop back into time into the PSX/PS2 era of games. :)

Jockamo4038d ago

by the third year you would have gone through three ouyas for $300 just to keep up with the trends. meanwhile you could have spent that money on a ps3 or 360 both of which have a vastly superior library, better graphics, better controllers, and a proven track record. ouya hasn't delivered on ONE of the devs/titles that were requested in their survey. not one. until they can prove that their efforts have solidified reliable dev support, you will not find me wading through the sea of bad imitations that I can already wade through on Google Play. Shadow Gun? Like a poor man's Gears. Mass Effect Infiltrator? Read the reviews. Canabalt? Jesus... Ouya is messing up their launch w titles no one would want to poke with a stick.

Jockamo4038d ago (Edited 4038d ago )

Wow, who's defending this thing? Check out this gem from the Verge review...

"Worst of all, it makes buying things impossibly easy — you enter a credit card when first setting up your Ouya, and there are often no confirmation boxes or checks against you spending thousands of dollars. Oh, you hit Upgrade because it's right next to Play and the controller's laggy? Perfect. Thanks for your money."

Edit: also you cannot change your credit card information once it is on the system. What???

Edit 2: purchases are not handled by the OS but by individual applications. meaning if someone wanted to make a malicious app, then they could have it run silently in the background... This is very BAD. Purchases need to be regulated and apps need to be screened. I'm not letting my credit card NEAR that thing.

It's only 99$,and it's worth, if only for the media capabilities and emulators.
For guys that are complaining, you're just to cheap.
Skip the next CoD or BF game with DLC and you'll have the money for OUYA.

sarshelyam4038d ago

I bought into it for a number of factors, but for a dedicated box that can run Netflix, HBOGO, Hulu, Flixster, etc., $99 is a steal for output to a TV.

fossilfern4038d ago

I dunno about you guys but the only reason im getting an Ouya is for a small emulation box. Its very low power, small and one of the N64 emulators has been updated for the Ouya I believe.

I’m Glad Atlus & SE Changed Dates To Avoid Competing With Shadow Of The Erdtree

Saad from eXputer: "I'm glad I don't have to choose between Square Enix, Atlus, and FromSoftware due to bad release windows and Shadow of the Erdtree."

H91d 4h ago

More intelligent than guerilla games

raWfodog10h ago(Edited 10h ago)

Atlus is releasing their game one week before Erdtree, SE is releasing theirs one week after.

HZD released four days before Zelda, HFW released one week before Elden Ring.

It seems to me like they are still releasing their games too close to Erdtree.

Yuji Naka guilty of insider trading breaks silence to accuse Square Enix producer of lies

Yuji Naka was fined $1.2 million and given a suspended jail sentence for the crime.

Profchaos15d ago (Edited 15d ago )

I find his comments around how Balan turned out to be very insightful as to why the game is trash. He basically apologises for its existence

solideagle13d ago

can you please give some of us who don't know anything about this, a summary of what happened?

Chocoburger13d ago

Balan was knowingly rushed out by S-E, it had an extremely short dev cycle and was fairly low budget.
Naka was the game's director until near the end when he was fired or perhaps he quit, I forgot.

carrotcakeag13d ago

@Chocoburger Yeah they did fire and replace him which caused him to unload a bunch of rants about the company. The project only existed because of Naka in the first place, he convinced Square to give him one shot at making a platformer. They gave him an opportunity but pulled the rug out before he was done for reasons not explained.

Please o please don't turn dragon quest into final fantasy square enix we dont wont that. Dragon quest works well just as it I. Plus you'll piss off Japanese fans to.

jznrpg17d ago

Hopefully they don’t. From this it doesn’t sound like that is the case and development is just taking too long.
