XMNR: A new report stating that the Xbox 720 (Durango) will require an internet connection to start games hit Thursday according to anonymous sources. However, gaming website Kotaku buried conflicting anonymous sources stating that there is no such requirement in the middle of its lengthy article.

Players had high expectations for Destiny’s latest content drop, Destiny 2: Into the Light. Not only did it have to live up to other content added due to a delay, it needed to give players faith the conclusion of the Light and Dark Saga will be worthwhile. - IS
We'll find out soon enough. But, I think everyone can agree this would be a bad move.
When MS shows all and the rumours are debunked it will just make the 720 look even better since everyone will have such low expectations.
