Five Things Zelda Wii U Should Borrow From Twilight Princess

GenGAME writes: "Do you remember the moment when The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess was first announced at E3 2004? There’s a reason why the game elicited so much cheering and applause – for many, it represented a return to form for the series after The Wind Waker‘s experimental art style and world. Bearing this in mind, the next Zelda game for a home console – Zelda Wii U – could represent a similar shift, away from the experimental direction of Skyward Sword and back to core conventions."

About the Artstyle? You know like the demo at E3 had. Nah, I bet it will probably be some sort of cel shading.

PopRocks3594030d ago

Granted, that's not necessarily bad. I like the way the series expands visually. That prevents it from being too monotonous. Honestly, try convincing me that Majora's Mask and Wind Waker (outside of sword combat) are anything alike.

I don't care what art style they use, but I would like a cinematic experience and an actual story. It would be awesome to have god of war's like bosses that it gets confusing if you are in control of the character or not. Fighting bosses riding Epona, like Shadow of the Colossus, etc. If the Wii U has more power than a PS3they can accomplish it.

I would also like a good story. To be able to relate to the characters and have deep development of their personalities. Link doesn't have to talk, but please chance the Zelda needs to be rescued and there is a hero of time to save her story.

What I don't want is a world as big as Skyrim or something like that, because then the game would most likely be mission type and i prefer a linear story, although not so linear like Uncharted.

I wish people would stop trying to turn Nintendo games into Sony games... If you want God of War size boses then play that game or Bayonetta 2, but Zelda is Zelda for a reason and not any of those other games. Anouma has pretty much confirmed that the New Zelda will be more like the first Zelda, meaning going for a non-linear style game play so you're out of luck there as well.

No matter what Nintendo has in stores for the franchise, I will always look forward to more Zelda :)

I'm hoping ZeldaU is inspire by Link to the past story line wise I think is the best Zelda and with the gorgeous graphics that would be a epic adventure

I can't see how you can 'borrow' from another Zelda game. A Zelda game is a Zelda game. All Zelda games have common themes and ideas, from A Link to the Past, Link's Awakening to Oot, Wind Waker and Twilight Princess. Be it hook shots, boomerangs, alternate worlds, etc, they all exist in Zelda games regardless of being in 2D or 3D.

For a Zelda game to 'borrow' it needs to look outside the franchise. Perhaps taking inspiration from games like Red Dead Redemption (slow mo aiming and reputation), Fable 2 (pet dog or should i say fairy), Halo (online co-op and competitive). Or perhaps borrow from all and use voice actors. I'm not saying that I would want these things in a Zelda game, but that would be 'borrowing' as I understand it.

Since Nintendo now has an hd console I'd like to see them use it to the fullest, go as realistic as they can on the graphics and add in voice acting also.. That'd definitely differentiate it from the other Zelda games.

Honestly I really changed my mind on Fi with the remaster because they didn't make her interrupt your gameplay every 5 seconds, that drastically changed my views on her

Inverno69d ago

Technically she's in ToTK but obviously can't take any other form than the sword she was made into. Also the companion feature has been done plenty of times in Zelda, I don't think it'll add anything new. If anything should be brought back it should be the Minish.

Directionless Modern Zelda Should Return to its 3D Roots

Amen! A good, tight, Zelda game with a focus on dungeons and puzzles. Let people have the new style Zelda if you gotta, but let us have the OoT style games too. That's not without precedent either, the handheld 2D Zelda's in the style of A Link to the Past etc have coexisted alongside the 3D Zelda's before

FinalFantasyFanatic100d ago

As much as I like BoTW, TotK, I need my traditional Zelda games as well, I could not endlessly play the open world Zelda games, plus it's harder to keep those fresher than the traditional games.

Eidolon99d ago (Edited 99d ago )

BotW was just as fresh to the franchise as OoT was. TokT was great but the next LoZ would have to move from that formula to be fresh again. There's only so much they can do with the hardware. I think they focused too much on making the world big instead impactful. I felt the world was sort of empty and repetitive in TotK, sure there was a lot to do but no more difference a Ubisoft game..

anast99d ago

I wouldn't worry too much. Nintendo knows what they are doing.

Ristul99d ago

Wind Waker had a perfect balance of open world and a cool, well hand-crafted design. Maybe try to keep the open world but put in effort to make more memorable story driven quests and locations.

I like it would also be cool if some created Dragon Caesar in the game I would love to watch the two going at it.
