Damn seeing Sony dominating like this is kind of weird. Why? Because according to all the xbox fanatics on this site, PS3 wasnt going to outsell the 360. Weird. I must have stepped through some portal to another dimension without knowing.

Great numbers for both Nint and Sony hardware with the exception of the Wii U. To think the ps3 is selling this well and still yet to hit that magic $199-$150 price point.

Its kind of amazing but, how much hardware 3DS sells, but how little software. Why are people buying it if not to play games?

Keep in mind that the install base of the 3DS is still pretty small (about 30 million sold) while the PS3 is at around 75 million. With that in mind, 2013 3DS software sales are almost identical to the PS3: about one game sold for every three systems on the market.

8.765 million games : 30 million units = 1:2.92
22.376 million games : 75 million units = 1:2.983

So they're about even given their install bases.

The one thing now about the Full numbers I don't get tho every one has the ps3 at about 1.5M from the 360 and its been like that for 6 months even tho just on the first 3 months of 2013 the ps3 has outsold the 360 by these number almost 800k

Half a million in the first quarter for the Wii U and Vita shows how badly these systems need a global price drop. If Sony can somehow get the Vita to $169 when the PS4 comes out that could help a ton (due to the PS4 -> Vita remote play integration). And the Wii U needs games and a price drop in a big way.

Looks like the PS3 will break 10 million again this year, so that's nice to see. That would put it at about 83 million sold and within 20 million of the Wii. Didn't think I'd be saying that four years ago.

Except for 2006 when it was only out for less that 2 months, and 2007, when it wasnt out in Europe till March, PS3 has always sold over 10M a year. I've always believed it would sell 100M eventually.

Well to say SOMETHING good about VGC the BS numbers they spew are not as bad now as they were when the install base was a lot smaller. A million in a pool of 70 million is a LOT more insignificant than a million in a pool of 10 million. That's why the uproar was as big as it was especially with PS3 being undertracked to hell.

These numbers are still BS but the TREND of sales might be visible even with VGC. PS3 has been and will be selling like hot cakes for years.

PS3 will hit 120-130 million easily. Hitting a 100 mil is a walk in the park. Give it 2 more years (end of 2015) and it'll achieve that. It will keep on selling for years after that with declining sales as PS4 picks up. Even 130 mil might be too little. That's it. My official prediction for PS3's lifetime sales is now up to 130-150 mil. There! Now it's official. Now give me money!

The wii u needs some games really badly. A price drop would probably do it some good. Nintendo dropped the price on the 3DS quite quickly so I think they will drop the price on the Wii U in the coming months.

I dont get how they still have the PS3 behind the X360 by 1.2 mil or so considering that for the first 3 months of this year, as stated by them in thi very article, the PS3 has outsold it by about 700K.

I mean, granted, both are putting up impressive numbers even though they have been on the market for well longer than previous gens and the fact that next gen is right around the corner.

I believe EVERY single system this current gen will surpass 100 Million consoles. Its a big step up when only the PS2 did it last gen (shattered it tbh). And DAT 3DS. Lol. Phenomenal little thing despite sharing the same similar bad press as the PS3 did in its infancy and the WiiU is facing now (the thing needs games though!!)

I remember all the hate sony got before the slim model came out, and it was really discouraging for me to hear that being a big playstation fan. The classic phrase of the "ps3 having no good games" was responsible for me playing games like heavenly sword, uncharted and resistance to name a few. I wanted to see for my self if that statement was true....it wasnt.

It was NEVER true.

I had Resistance and Motorstorm at launch, which can be ranked amongst some of the best launch games ever as far as fun is concerned.

And then Heavenly sword and Uncharted came in the first year.

How was that no games?

I probably bought about 25 games the first year of the 360, mainly because I just didnt want to go back to last gen again, but all that was really memorable for me at least was GRAW at launch, and then Gears of War a year later, which I didnt like as much as I'd hoped.

Both consoles had their far share of rubbish the first year, and both had a handfull of gems, but only PS3 got slapped with the "No games" tag.

I was thinking of a way sony could sell more Vita's in relation to PS4.
Might be stupid, But sony should have like a discount scheme or sale for vita for
those who preorder a ps4.
This could be another way of getting people to buy both, especially if people want a ps4 anyway. Getting a cheap vita would be a no brainer.

its shocking that when xbox360 was out selling the Ps3 everyone here said that VGAchartz data was wrong but when Ps3 is selling more than xbox360 now is correct,how ironic N4G.Vita selling more than Wii U coz is been out for fourteen month and Wii U 6 months.And starting to sell well in japan becoz of the price drop and new games coming for it.well guess people never change on this site.

no the Vita is outselling the Wii U because it's in a different market, and for it's market of competition it's getting the games it needs to become competitive. The Wii U is struggling because 1. it fails to draw distinction between itself and the Wii among the casual wii owners who don't think they should upgrade. And 2. the Wii U is seen by the "hardcore" as Nintendo's way of catching up with current gen. For the price a 250 gig PS3 is still a much better value the the 8 gig WiiU, the PS3 and 360 still more 3rd party support then the Wii U and the Wii U hasn't brought enough first party games to the table. Also many gamers have set the Wii U on the back burner due to the PS4 and possibly nextbox holiday announcement, all gamers are waiting for are official prices.

lol no.... Zelda wind waker is epic but a game from the gamecube in HD is not going to move a $299 console. Ocarina of time didn't for the 3DS Wind waker won't do it for the Wii U. It'll help make the Wii U a lot more appealing but only alongside many other games.
