The Weekly Five: Genesis/Mega Drive classics that deserve the retro engine treatment

SEGAbits: "Ever since SEGA announced the Sonic CD re-release running on the Retro Engine, I had a long list of retro titles that I wanted to see use the engine. Then after awhile SEGA stopped announcing titles for it, then out of the blue they announce Sonic 1 & 2 re-releases using the engine. As much as I love Sonic, there are plenty of SEGA Genesis/Mega Drive games that I would love to see running on the Retro Engine. Check out the five games I would want to get the Retro Engine treatment and what type of extras I would love to see for them."

Streets of Rage 1 & 2, Golden Axe 1,2 , Road Rash (EA), Starflight (EA), Sonic 1, 2, 3 , Revenge of Shinobi

They're my favorite MegaDrive games which I would like seeing remade, but it'll probably never happen except for the Sonic games obviously.

How about some Sega CD games get the retro treatment? I do miss the Genesis (personally I liked it better than SNES and yes I did own both) however they should at least list some Sega CD games to maybe add to PSN/Live down the road. So far I bought Streets of Rage 2, Sonic 1/2/CD, and Altered Beast, Comix Zone came free with +, and I got the platinum trophy in Sonic Genesis Collection.

I also vote for a Sonic 3 and Knuckles ROM for PSN/Live, that game I would play to death like I did back in the Genesis days.

I'd love a Greatest Heavyweights remake, or even the original Evander Holy fields real deal boxing, Strider was also an excellent game back in the day

Sega sells Relic and will cut 240 jobs across UK studios

GamesIndustry.biz writes: "Relic is best known for the Company of Heroes and Dawn of War games, and recently developed the new Age of Empires for Microsoft. Relic will transition to an independent studio and will no-longer be part of the Sega group of studios.

The majority of the 240 job cuts are across Creative Assembly and Sega Europe, while there will be a ‘small number’ cut from Sega HARDLight. There was no mention of other Sega UK studios, including Two Point Studios and Sports Interactive."

Shame about Creative Assembly, they should have just been allowed to do an Alien Isolation sequel.

just_looken21d ago

It was that garbage coh 3 that did them in only a special team can make a sequel worse in every way even though it was a 10 year gap and the same era.

I hope they find new jobs in the industry soon.

Two Point Studios and Sports Interactive probably run on a shoe string budget so that fits into SEGA better lol

SEGA’s Switch Predecessor: What Happened to the Nomad?

Sega had such a turbulent existence from the mid-90s to when they dropped out of console manufacturing entirely in 2001, it’s understandable if you’ve never heard of the Genesis Nomad.
