Playing Metal Gear Solid 2 For the First Time

While the Metal Gear Solid games have been astounding players for almost two decades, there is a subset of folks who've yet to play them. Does Metal Gear Solid 2, the somewhat controversial PS2 launch title staring Raiden hold up after all these years when played without the rose-tinted glass of nostalgia?

Not yet, my cousin has the HD collection but it doesn't include MGS1. I'll get it eventually.

Played in Mgs 1 back in 1999 and perception of the franchise hasn't waned since. Very few franchises can do that.

Its awesome! I still remember seeing the Trailer for the First time.
Where Snake walks on the George Washington Bridge and it's raining. And then he jumps onto that Tanker.
How excited I was back then.
When I replayed it on the HD Edition, I nearly got the same feeling :)

MGS3 is the best one imo. Followed by MGS:Peace Walker.

Peace Walker is awesome, so much replayability, me and some friends have done countless hours on co op and vs. Its also my second favorite, but mgs1 is my favorite with 3 being my third favorite. All of them are phenomenal games though.

I also agree, even with Raiden, MGS2 is the best. It took everything from MGS and made it better. No question.

I first play MGS2 on the Bleemcast emulator on the Dreamcast, it was an awesome experience. I recently purchased the HD collection on xbox live and must say, like a fine wine, it ages well. One of the best games ever!

Some people hated MGS 2 because they felt cheated when Kojima put Raiden as the main hero, not Solid Snake. And they can't stand some confusing plot story. But for me, MGS 2 is still one of the best MGS i've ever played. First time play it back in 2001, i've got the feeling that Solid Snake is not the main hero in the end of Tanker chap. And my feeling is right when Raiden show up.

But don't get me wrong. I felt dissapointed too like other people when Kojima replaced Snake with Raiden. But Raiden is an interesting character with mysterious background. I've kept playing MGS 2 until the end just want to know who is Raiden, where's snake, and wtf is happen when they told Raiden that snake is the main enemy. I think this factor are the thing that made MGS 2 really cool for me. Even though i need a 3rd playtrough to understand completely all the mumble jumble plot of MGS 2.

I'm playing mgs1 right now for the first time to get into series. For a ps1 Game it's still amazing. The plot is so interesting. I can't wait to play the hd collection and mgs4 to get ready for mgs5:).

Im also playing for the first time the MGS series and im also playing right now MGS2 on VITA and PS3. Bought it for PS3 and this month PSPLUS gave me the Vita version. All i can say its thank you Kojima =)

I wish I had the brains to play this series since it looks really deep in terms of story and gameplay. I'll try again some day!
