GXC: "The debate has been raging on for a while now, is Nintendo’s new console, the Wii U, a next-gen system or not? Visit any gaming site where the community is active and you’ll find arguments supporting both sides – one saying it is, the other saying it isn’t. Well, a very specific question needs to be answered in order to reach a conclusion on the matter: What constitutes a next-generation system?"
The Nintendo Switch is potentially nearing its lifespan, and several Wii U games haven't found their way over as ports yet.
I think it's better to leave games like AC: Amiibo Festival and Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash forgotten on the Wii U. Best case, they are mediocre games; worse case, they are very bad. It was a dark time for the Wii U, and the first only exists to sell Amiibo cards, whereas the second was put together in a couple of months with a shoestring budget, and it shows.
The rest of the list does have some really cool games, though. I would love to see a remake of Star Fox Zero with decent controls, and Xenoblade X doesn't require that much modification to work.
This article leaves out Nintendo's most controversial game to date devils Third.
I personally found the cover system really fun in that one compared to at the time most fps games completely lacking one.
They should remake Starfox to the switch 2. Very beautiful game during gamecube days.
Kirby is always ignored or forgotten by people, so good to see it mentioned here.
Play Kirby Canvas Curse on DS, and then play Rainbow Curse on Wii U, they're really fun and unique 'platformers' without any actual jumping.
Hanzala from eXputer: "The cruel hammer of Nintendo has fallen. Farewell, 3DS and Wii U, you surely brightened my life and many others; you won't be forgotten."
A new list goes over eight of the the most useless amiibo, ranging from the Shadow Mewtwo card to the Qbby figure.
It was the next Nintendo console, so it was Nintendo's next generation system.
Now it's its current system. Soooo... Yeah.
NO its a current gen console little more ram and gimmicky controller.
Wii-u is nintendo's next gen system. If people were to look at it as Wii-u is to wii what SNES was to NES then the debate will be over.
The transition from one console generation to another is an evolutionary one. You have to look at the ladder of platforms from within a given company. NES, SNES, N64, GC, Wii, Wii-U. Each one built on strengths not available in the previous release.
The comparatives to the competition may paint a different picture but it does not mean that all artists must paint the same way.
Well, like it or not, this is the "next-gen" for Nintendo. This is going to be Nintendo's system for the next 5-6 years, so if publishers don't like it, they can just skip Nintendo fans for the next 5-6 years.
Big publishers seem to be doing just fine after skipping the original Wii, and Nintendo seems to be doing just fine after 5-6 years with minimal support from big publishers.
As much as it sucks for people that wish every single multiplatform game would also come to the Wii U, it's sorta become a given fact that everyone just assumes that third-party games will skip the Nintendo console.
At the same time, Nintendo has the exclusives that everyone wants. Mario, Zelda, Metroid, etc... Ever since the GameCube, it's kinda been a given fact that you buy Nintendo consoles for Nintendo games, and you buy the other thing (Sony/MS) for those other games.
Nintendo isn't going anywhere, they'll always be around doing their own thing, nearly oblivious to what's going on in the world around them.
As for me, I'm playing Lego City, NFSMWU, and MH3U this week, so I have pretty much zero complaints.
Yes.
I - Really - Don't - Care - About - It's - Specs.
SPECS ~ have NEVER defined a console of being "last-gen", "current-gen" or "next-gen", so that excuse holds no water. And even if it did - the Wii U would still be "next-gen". The fact that it's able to handle way more than the 360/PS3, proves that. Look at "Need for Speed Most Wanted: U" - that game uses the PC textures, something that couldn't be done on the 360/PS3. Look at Rayman Legends - full native 1080p (NOT-upscaled) at 60fps ~ also something that couldn't be done on the 360/PS3. And this is just the beginning of the consoles lifetime. Imagine 2-3 years down the line, when devs have even more knowledge of the Wii U's tech and are able to harness it's strengths?
Anyway, I truly believe it doesn't matter what "gen" it's considered to be. It's Nintendo's newest home console, therefore making it 8th-generation. Even if it's specs don't match what the PS4 and 720 have, it's still better than what we saw from the PS3 and 360. Both those consoles have some BEAUTIFUL games running on them, so imagine what the Wii U can do, seeing that it's more powerful?
It's a great console. The Gamepad opens up a whole new world of innovation, and it's affordable, and has full BC with everything Wii. It has a great online system to boot, and currently has a lot of fun games to play - with many more to come.
