Expect Pikmin 3 to be Awesome, But Don’t Expect it to Drive Wii U Sales

GenGAME writes: "For most Wii U fans, it seems like Pikmin 3 is the big game they’re looking forward to within the foreseeable future. And it should be – Nintendo’s take on the real-time strategy genre is a pretty suitable fit for their audience, who crave a bit more than just the same old stuff. It’s a great franchise all-around, really: simple, easy-to-understand, and strongly focused game mechanics, sporting a world rich with things to investigate and a wide variety of monsters to harvest and oozing with Nintendo-style charm.

"I’m sure the game will be excellent, and a great addition to Wii U owners’ libraries. But let’s get one thing straight: Pikmin will not sell Wii U systems."

majiebeast4043d ago

Pikmin never was a system seller but it will move some wiiU's and its a good franchise.

PygmelionHunter4043d ago

Agreed. I wonder why it's taken so long to come out, thought this was gonna be a launch window game at first. This is just what my Wii U needs!

Mecca44043d ago

Nintendo is losing money , the console suck, all they say is Nintendo has money to withstand it, it's like thinking, I have enough blood to survive so I will Just bleed, and see what happens lol, we all know how it ends

PygmelionHunter4043d ago

I may have taken your comment seriously if you hadn't said "the console suck(s)". Today's gamers are so quick to forget, the Wii U is just another PS3-like case, slow at first because of its hardware architecture, minus the yellow light of death and horrendous price tag, of course.

TongkatAli4043d ago

With no bluray and DVD movie support. The Wii U can do it, but PS3 does what NintenDON'T.

WrAiTh Sp3cTr34043d ago (Edited 4043d ago )

Speaking of blu-ray/dvd playback, I'm surprised the Wii-U hasn't been hacked yet to do such things like the Wii had been. Or maybe it already has been hacked and I haven't heard about it...

Edit: Quick research does reveal Wii U has been exploited but only in Wii mode apparently.

AJBACK2FRAG4042d ago

TONGKATALI,
The Wii U runs on a blu ray drive. The Wii U also runs dvd for Wii games.
On topic. (For once!) I've written before how the Pikmin games controls are so much fun to use even before actually hitting the game. Well turns out Miyamoto works on controls first and in Pikmin it really shows. I can't wait for the third game in the series and I plan to pik (sic) it up as soon as it releases.

TongkatAli4043d ago

Hahahah, that was a joke right ? Nintendo being dead is not happening buddy. Really, it's not going to happen, REALITY is more telling then your post.

deafdani4043d ago

You have no idea how much money Sony and MIcrosoft lost in the first years of the PS3 and Xbox 360, do you?

This ain't anything new. Actually, Nintendo is losing LESS money with the Wii U than Sony and Microsoft did for their current consoles.

To say or even imply that Nintendo is doomed, especially considering how much money they won with the DS, DSi, Wii and now the 3DS, not to mention their game sales (Nintendo has the best selling IPs in the market, fact), is asinine.

NYC_Gamer4043d ago

I doubt many expect Pikmin to shift tons of hardware..

legendoflex4043d ago

Nah, everywhere I look Nintendo fans are all saying the system's sales will pick up when Pikmin 3 launches.

LOL_WUT4043d ago

Yea well, that won't happen until Nintendo drop of the Wii U.

Yodagamer4043d ago

@lol_wut it's doing better than the ps3/xbox did thus far in it's life cycle WITHOUT a killer app, that's pretty impressive imo

deno4043d ago

Nintendo will be fine, but they are having a bit of a rough time. Once mario, zelda and metroid land the masses will come.

DEATHxTHExKIDx4043d ago

I didnt think it would. Mario Kart, smash bros, Pokemon etc... are system sellers.

Pikmin 4 is great. The new camera system made everything better.

Cacabunga66d ago

I like the concept of this game but it really gets boring in the long run. Nintendos flagship could be F-Zero, they really need to bring it back

-Foxtrot66d ago

I’d prefer a StarFox spin off like the GameCube Adventure games. I found them to be fun despite being different to the main core games.

RaiderNation66d ago (Edited 66d ago )

@-Foxtrot

I'd love a new Star Fox game done in a similar format to Starlink, but with a better story and better enemy variety.

Nebaku65d ago

Every subsequent F-Zero sold worse than the prior.

If it's a flagship title, I think the flag will sink with the ship.

MrBaskerville66d ago

I love Pkimin 4, but wish they'd lean more into the rts aspects of the game. Would be interesting if you were using pikmin to gather resources and building stuff. Wouldn't mind if it strayed a iittle bit away from the cozy game territory. Atleast in spin-off.

MrBaskerville65d ago

Everyone hated the rts sections or what?

ifinitygamer66d ago

The "next gen console update" part of this is so clickbaity. The Nintendo president offered an update that they have nothing to update us on.

Crows9066d ago (Edited 66d ago )

I'm all in for a new Nintendo generation if they can give us

New smash
New Mario party
New Metroid
New Zelda both in 3d and 2d
New starfox
New IP
New and better pokemon game that really advances the IP

ifinitygamer66d ago

So you want all new Nintendo games from every franchise lol
Not making fun but it's like every major franchise, minus Mario for some reason?

talocaca65d ago

I live in Japan and Pikmin 4 did surprisingly well. Tons of collaborations and marketing. Even now they play ads on the trains.

One of my favorite franchises ♥️

Review - Pikmin 1 (Switch) | WayTooManyGames

WTMG's Leo Faria: "For better or for worse, this is now the easiest and most practical way to play Pikmin, and figure out why has this franchise managed to stand the test of time for so long. I particularly didn’t understand the hype. To me, Pikmin is average at best. It’s a game that has aged poorly, especially when it comes to these dated controls. The fact this wasn’t even a remaster, but a bare bones upscaled port of a game from 2001, certainly didn’t help. It did nothing to fix its many issues, nor did it receive improvements in its visuals, audio, or performance. It can be fun for a while, and having yet another (costly) way to have it preserved for the future is nice, but I certainly am not enamored with the franchise after playing it. I’d rather just stick to Tinykin."
