Should Military Games Have Women Soldiers?

ArmA 3 is a military simulator coming later this year, and from the forums came an interesting thread. The game does not include female character models and the community largely thinks that is not a problem.

How is he dragging the topic through the mud exactly? He's saying something that's very true, unless of course you consider Sessler a walking contracdiction that will gladly turn a blind eye to actual, sexism, racism and such.

I mean, this is an army game we're talking about here. It's a place that have slogans such as

These are all slogans that could be made into trophies, and I can definitely seem him taking issues with some of them. But in reality, he wouldn't because there are only 2 standards in this industry: Controversy, and Double-Standards.

women are the best thing to ever happen to men, however when i think about them in battle i just think about some scary mood swings while shit hits the fan.

I dunno I love my woman but i dont want her in combat with me. she is a flower i am a rock. flowers are good for beauty, rocks are good at killing the enemy, as even "god" used to advocate stoning of the "enemy"

in all seriousness the average woman is weaker than the average man. if a woman wants to go out and kill people point blank she must prove herself first. cause theres a man at home who has to deal with her crying for the rest of his life while she relives her armyhood memories.

in other words our women are the apple of our eyes. let them do as they please. so long as they are mentally/physically as strong as the "average" male.

Yes move on. The only reason why you take issue with him bringing up a very valid point is because your public enemy # 1 in the PS3 crowd didn't agree with Sessler(which I'm sure there are plenty outside of PS3 fans that don't agree with him also but it's not like that actually matters to you).

I think it's perfectly okay for him to bring up the fact that military games having women soldiers would undoubtedly invite all sorts of unnecessary criticism from feminists and invite all sorts of accusations of sexism that surely weren't the developers intentions. But of course you just chalk it up to him just being a blind PS3 fan that is just angry about Sessler criticizing his oh so precious God of War trophy.

Why do you think games like Mass Effect have so many fans? Its one of the few games I know that women actually have played.

Female fighting records are way bellow the bar set for men when they want to pass physical excams.
These excams are created for being able to cary hardware around the field and making sure injured soldiers can get dragged from the field and so forth.

A women is "not" capable of doing this, and so a squad gets weaker and weaker as more females join in, the team is more in danger.

The training records speak volumes about how an untrained man, beats 90% of trained women.
And how trained women fail 80% of set out army field demands.

Now some bars are lowered for females to pass easier...

In movies and games they can get females to do anything, even manly shit, it basicaly tells the girl watching it "A man got nothing on you, you're excactly the same!"

beating the snot out of people is such a low qualification. Most women can not haul a human body out of the fire and if they can they cannot sustain it for very long. That is a problem. Also from experience like in GI Jane(a movie i know) they have a line about women trying to help the ones that can;t be helped and that is a huge problem for ground forces issues like that cannot be a common thing on the battlefield.

Can a woman solider take the abuse of the enemy? can a woman solider(not as much nowadays i know) handle an assault by enemy men? They most definitely can not and then that again becomes a serious problem.

This is a time for an entrepreneur to start a map reading business and sell it to the military. Gonna need alot of map reading classes for female ground units :) Im just kidding but still funny.

It quite clearly states on the RAF Regiment application form that "For reasons of combat effectiveness women cannot join the RAF Regiment."
So whilst there are plenty of women in the military, there still are boundaries for women as gun totting troopers. So no, for reasons of authenticity there shouldn't be more women soldiers in games.

That's just the RAF though (and it's a pretty silly rule cos they could be missing out on some top quality pilots just because they're women).

Women soldiers should be in games in the spirit of equality because only killing men is a bit sexist when women can be soldiers too.
Also, for realistic military games, the number of female soldiers should be proportionate to the number in real life. For unrealistic games, artistic license should rest with the developers to have as many or as few men/women as characters in the game as they choose.

No no. They are allowed in the RAF, there are tons of them lol. As far as I'm aware there are women pilots too. The RAF Regiment is a different story though, they are known as "gunners" they are the RAF's ground troops and are usually amongst the first troops to enter any war zones as the first job in most conflict zones is to set up an air base. So whilst they aren't like special operations or anything like that they are quite an elite fighting unit and thus are quite choosy about who they let in.

Sure, why not? I see nothing wrong with it. The only problem might come from some people getting upset over seeing a woman die (Sessler. Sorry, couldn't resist), but that's whatever.

Now, whether or not they SHOULD be fighting alongside man on the frontlines in real life is another matter entirely. I'm not trying to be sexist when I say this. I'm just being real.

Women in general are physically weaker than men. It's not up for debate, it's a fact and supported by Mother Nature herself. Military frontline duty requires a high-level of physical capability in order to be as effective as possible. Carrying equipment, moving injured teammates, moving obstacles on the field, physical altercations with the enemy, etc. In these very physical tasks, men are simply superior. Having more women on the team increasingly lowers a squad's ability to perform these tasks as effectively and efficiently as possible.

Outside of physically demanding activities, they are every bit a man's equal. On the open battlefield; however, I just don't think that they have a place there unless they PROVE that they can keep up. Maybe as a sniper or another supporting role is fine, but not on the frontlines.

That's silly though, because, as you say, not all women are physically weaker than all men. So what's the point of excluding all women from the frontlines because most of them couldn't cut it?

Obviously a much higher percentage of men would be better at these tasks (because they build muscle much easier, have higher levels of testosterone etc) than women but some women will be able to keep up and in some cases be better than some of their male teammates.

There should be a minimum physical and mental requirement to get on the frontline and if you pass you're in... whether you're a man, woman or anything else.

I didn't say that they should NEVER be allowed to fight on the frontlines beside men. I only said that most women in general can't keep up with their male counterparts and therefore, should stay off the frontlines UNLESS they can prove that they are just as capable as a man in the same position.
