Why Final Fantasy Versus XIII on PS4 makes perfect sense

Final Fantasy Versus XIII is by far the most anticipated game this generation ever since its announcement back in May 2006. So why might this modern action-RPG have been pushed to the PS4?

We have Ign reporting it as a rumor, then we have 3 reliable 'leakers'. 2 Neogaf users which are have proven reliable, and VGleaks who proved Reliable with the Ps4 spec leaks

Then you have Wada spouting his ambition stuff.

Then you have VGleaks giving us a reasonable reason as to why Versus gameplay was shown and then suddenly disappeared for ages with nothing said except "please wait, ambition!"

if its one thing weve learned over the years is that Japanese Developers
troll their fans. From Kojipro-Platinum MGR fiasco to the Phantom Pain being confirmed as running on Fox engine and being shown the very same day Kojima is having a live stream event for Ground Zero.

I'm starting to believe that FFv13 switched to Next Gen Luminous engine around September 2011 when Square started showing off the rendering engine in prototype form, and now that the engine had been running on the ps4 they decided to just change the name and make it a main entry to the FF series.

It makes sense especially when they Changed FF agito 13 into FF type-0 And released it for the PSP instead of mobile phones. Likely square saw that the FF13 series had enough spin off/sequels in form of
FF13, 13-2, and LR:FF13.

When FF13 was announced it announced with the "Fabula Nova Crysillis" Meaning "New Tale of the Crystal" with it Versus13 And agito 13 were the other 2 games in the compilation.

having turned 13 story into its own universe spanning 3 sequels I guess Square ultimately decided against allowing Versus to share the same fate FF13 and its improved but still commercial failure sequel suffered. So letting 13 be its own thing and changine the name and the universe of the other original 2 games announced in 2006 it makes perfect sense that Versus 13 become a main numbered series especially with how ambitious the project is.

And skipping a generation, to be apart of the PS4 after being in Development for 7 years makes that much more sense! Bring it..

shout out to Square and Tetsuya Nomura for being bigger trolls in the game industry than Hideo Kojima. Way to have us fooled for 7 Years only to find you changed your games name mid development and move to next gen platforms. Lol

Unless Square have decided to make up everything they previously did again, Versus isn't being made on the Luminous Engine, it's only using it for lighting and everything else is on the Crystal Tools engine.

Im 100% sure that Tetsuya Nomura said way back in an interview that Versus 13 was being built on a new engine called Luminous engine and thats not just for the lighting effects. Im guessing it was the early stages of Luminous engine. It makes sense that we havent seen anything of versus 13 for a while since that Jump FESTA trailer. It is most likely on the ps4.

Even do a Google search of it or check the Wikipedia. In the second half of 2011 he said that it will be using the Luminous engine's lighting system but never said anything else. I understand that they may since then have decided to make the whole game for next-gen fully with Luminous but I just don't like articles that state theories as fact.

What? No it isn't, there has been far more greater anticipated games this generation, and there are far greater anticipated games for the PS4/Xbox720 (Killzone, Halo 5, GTA and dare I say even the Call of Duty's and Battlefields).

FFvXIII in my opinion is scrapped, the money wasted on development for 7 years is disappointing. If they had been developing it for the PS4 surely they would of shown us something at the PS4 reveal conference rather than re-running a pre-rendered cut-scene we've seen a year earlier. Don't hold youre hopes up. Final Fantasy 12 was the last good Final Fantasy. FF XIII was the worst FF ever in my opinion.

I agree, ever since they showed the 2006 trailer it was my most Anticipated game. I hope the wait is over and it releases alongside ps4 this holiday, if not early next year.

It doesn't make perfect sense at all. If anything it would make me avoid the PS4 & that game for all the lies and waiting they put me through. The PS3 will still be getting games long after the PS4 comes out anyway. If they announce this for the PS4 then I assume to just wait until the PS5 because they'll announce it for that by then.

And what waiting? As far as I can remember, Square Enix NEVER promised a release date. They just announced it too early, and yes they said "Only on PS3" in the trailers, but some devs don't think the current hardware can do the game like it was meant to be, so they wait for next-gen hardware announcement.

Me too. If they move a game I bought a ps3 for many years ago onto the next console I won't buy either out of spite. You sold me a ps3 with the VS13 announcement and then 5 years later say "my bad you now have to spend ANOTHER 400 bucks to play what you already spent hundreds of dollars to play". It would be complete and utter BULLSHIT. Same with The Last Guardian. Ps3 or bust as far as I'm concerned.

And yes the fault is squarely on Sony here. They pressure devs to announce games that aren't even confirmed yet. Examples are RE psp, Bioshock vita, Alien Spidey vita, TLG, Agent, VS13, and many more. The devs even say Sony wanted to come on stage and announce this franchise for vita/ps3 so we did but we haven't decided if we will even make said game. That's one thing that really really gets to me. It's like Nintendo showing a new Mario Kart, Zelda, and Metroid for wii-u and then saying 5 years later to buy a wii-me. Nintendo at least releases stuff like Twighlight Princess on the console promised AND on the new console so everyone is happy.

Well if you seen the latest trailers, and if those graphics are on ps3 then just release it on there, but if you can port it easily to ps4 and make it run and look as beautiful then why not release them on both?

I think shifting the game to a next gen console would give SE a foot in the door where new hardware is concerned. They'll have a game ready and possibly closer to launch like FFX did w/the PS2 and not 3+ years later like FFXIII was on the PS3/360.

The interesting thing about this leak/rumor is the idea that Sony is co-developing the game. We all kinda know that this gen Squarenix hasn't been that great in adapting to the HD format with their long delays & development times. So asking for help & another source of funding isn't that hard to believe.

Maybe this is that exciting announcement that Squarenix was hyping during the PS4 reveal. It could explain a lot if you really think about it. So this years E3 is gonna be very interesting.

the next mainline final fantasy is ps4 exclusive. if these are the games ypu like you get the ps4 end of story. if you just like the 1 or 2 fps games the whole gen and drm and such you get the x720. it will be interesting to see have people evolved on what choices they make next gen or is most of humanity still primitive.

Hopefully they don't add any microtransactions at all. Thats just a bad idea. And they shouldn't force Nomura to make the game appeal to females more. If he wants to do it thats fine. But forcing him to put something in the game can make it feel out of place and unnatural. Little things like that can take waya from the overall experience. They should let Nomura and his team have full control over the story and content of the game.

And also FF13 got pretty good critical reviews.

Some of the battle scenes in the 2011 trailer look next gen,they also talk about using the next gen luminous engine and this anticipated game is taking so long to develop & it's been 2 yrs since we've heard any recent concrete news, IMO I think this game is definitely going next gen or it's been canceled.

Simple fact by the time FFVS13 sees the light of day and is finished the PS4 will be out and ready to buy and play.
