Electronic Arts announces free games for patient SimCity gamers

Electronic Arts has finally revealed the list of free games that will be given away to SimCity users who had to endure the disastrous launch of the game that left many gamers unable to play their title due to server load and the lack of offline play.

Ironically, one of the free games is SimCity 4 Deluxe Edition.

Saryk4050d ago

That is a good way to make up their mistake!

Bimkoblerutso4050d ago (Edited 4050d ago )

I don't really see it that way. Most people were never going to buy these games in the first place, and yet a great deal of them could STILL potentially make EA money through microtransactions and DLC.

You know...as opposed to a refund that would guarantee a loss for their broken, piece of crap game.

JackBNimble4050d ago

Well I would agree with you if the game was broken , but it's not and never was. The servers were the problem, and I expected this would happen months ago when I decided to buy the game.

Anyone who thought that there would be a smooth launch with an online only game was only fooling themselves. The servers are up and running now, the only thing not working is the leaderboards.

Anyone who bought SimCity expecting something else should have done a little more research. I new exactly what I was getting when I purchased the game ,and that is exactly what I got (minus the leaderboards).

Bimkoblerutso4050d ago (Edited 4050d ago )

I imagine you're sitting there with an ironic grin on your face right now, because I don't know how anyone could honestly say the game is fixed with a straight face, much less that it was "never broken."

Even if you don't consider the server issues "part" of the game (which would be ridiculous to consider, but we'll do it anyway just for the sake of argument) you still have retarded AI, crazy balance issues and a plethora of game-breaking bugs that have not been fixed yet.

Though let me just say, I salute your loyalty to EA/Maxis, having apparently known all of this would be present in the game beforehand.

Hydralysk4050d ago (Edited 4050d ago )

No, a good way to make up for their mistake would be refunds for people that wanted them.

This is like walking into a hardware store to return a hammer because they built it out of rubber, and then being told "Well I can't refund you even though you have a receipt, but I CAN give you a screwdriver of your choice!"

Godmars2904050d ago

No its not. EA's already made their money on those titles - two of which were what, $10 when they first came out? - so they're not losing anything by giving them away for the mountain of mistakes involved here.

dmeador4050d ago

Exactly. It basically costs them nothing to let those players download a game for "free". If the Scewdriver in Hydras example came from Star Trek replicator then it would be more accurate, haha.

JackBNimble4050d ago

But it is still a free game for me that I would have otherwise had to buy. I'll take it thank you very much, I couldn't careless if it doesn't cost EA a dime to give away.

Just another game for my collection.

steve30x4050d ago

The biggest way they could make up for their mistake would to patch the game to get rid of the always online drm. That drm is the only thing that put me off buying the game.

wallis4050d ago (Edited 4050d ago )

This actually shows the exact level of disdain EA have for their customers. So long as we get something in the end it's okay to take our money. They say sorry and they flutter their eyes but its like your mugger leaving you a card; God Damn it I don't want a card I would have much preferred not being mugged. The only real difference is that a mugger isn't a f*cking millionaire and I rarely carry what a special edition game costs in my wallet so I'd lose less from the whole experience.

Good going EA you make muggers look good.

Edit: Oh goody, Medal of Honor: Warfighter.

Here I thought they'd choose games from 2007 or something

The ones they chose are... actually a little fair. Debating between Dead Space 3 and Medal of Honor Warfighter. They're both terrible games so I hear, but still. Probs go for Medal of Honor or something.

Lisica4050d ago

Dead Space 3 is good. MOH Warfighter is crap.

tommygunzII4050d ago

I thought the servers for MOHW were taken down already.

Kran4050d ago

Pfft. As if I give a damn about the multiplayer. The MOH 2010's multiplayer was garbage and unplayable. Every time you spawned, you die. It was an unfair advantage all the time.

GiggMan4050d ago

I was holding off until this list came out. Looks like I'm going to purchase Simcity when I get off of work.

LessThan2Tflops4050d ago

Hmmm not bad Dead Space 3 is on the list

cleft54050d ago

I love that Sim City 4 Deluxe Edition is on that list. The irony of it is just so hilarious. EA is basically giving out a bunch of $20 games that are tired and old. And the few $60 games have a ton of microtransactions in them.

I am so glad I brought Tropico 4 instead of this game.

7 Times Games Forced Us Online (Against Our Will)

Some games force online-only measures onto people. It sucks! Especially when some titles, like these seven, 100% didn't need it.

Need for Speed as well. Here's to hope that the new one will be a return to form for the franchise.

Gaming1012430d ago

Dead Space was the worst ruining... micro transactions in a full price game, with co op that was mandatory to get all the story and access to certain areas. Sure Rock Band was oversaturated, and Burnout was basically killed off even though it sold a ton on PS3 back in the day.

indysurfn2430d ago

Wow kudos EA! no one can kill a franchisee like you can kill a franchises.

lptmg2430d ago

Sadly, Rock Band died because of Activision shoving one Guitar Hero every 3 months

PhoenixUp2431d ago

Dead Space, NBA Live, & Rock Band

indysurfn2430d ago (Edited 2430d ago )

I really liked Burnout and Need for speed and thought no one will able to destroy this game.....I was WRONG!
