I think the real comparison is going to end up being between Tomb Raider and The Last of Us. Tomb Raider is much more gritty and survivalish than Uncharted.

Neixus4059d ago (Edited 4059d ago )

then again, The Last of Us is more about the relationship between Joel and Ellie. It's not the same sub-genre, it's like comparing cod (twitch shooter) to a Arma (Military simulation) Both are shooters, but not exactly the same even though it is the same genre.

Although, i get your point

Army_of_Darkness4059d ago (Edited 4059d ago )

Things keep breaking and they keep falling;-)

Sharingan_no_Kakashi4059d ago

Yea. I'm not really seeing much similarity between Uncharted and TR so far. TLOU would be a better comparision.

Chaostar4059d ago (Edited 4059d ago )

One of the main differences mentioned in the video is basically that Tomb Raider has a 'grittier' story. While this is very true I found that the bigger difference while playing was down to animation and the way the games flow. This is where, imo, Uncharted outshines Tomb Raider in every respect, with Naughty Dogs high quality motion capture adding much greater believably to characters and movement. To be fair though, Tomb Raider is so well done that it's very easy to give it a free pass for it's many similarities.

camel_toad4059d ago

I agree on the quality of animations being better with Uncharted but IMO I actually felt like as far as gameplay and character development that Tomb Raider wins, although I'm sure I will get plenty of disagrees.

Thatguy-3104056d ago

Character development? Only character that developed well was lara and that's because your playing as her. Gameplay I do agree but everything else uncharted takes the cake. Even when you try to stealth kill someone you always see that same clunky animation of the enemy standing stiff and lara choking him with her bow.

greenpowerz4059d ago (Edited 4059d ago )

Reveiwers say Tomb Raider is better in every way possible.

Uncharted has characters developed over the series which is the only edge.

IMO Uncharted doesn't touch the story telling blending, graphics or gameplay mechanics.

Tomb Raider is gritty, mature, grounded and has a sense of connection with the charater's mortality unmatched in gaming(on the Hard setting) Better gameplay a new cover system other games copying Gears Of War now need to match with TR. Upgrading weapons and skills in this genre is big making TR better just because of that.

Environmental weather and physics doesn't seem possible on consoles nor does the lighting and effects. Textures don't seem possible nor does the quality of the foliage and its sharpness. Destruction on such an epic scale unmatched

Enenmy Kill animations are 2nd to non and are fast(not canned)

More open world

The game is almost designed like you're partners with the character instead of simply controlling an avatar. You pay attention what Laura's doing and saying and meet here half way in her/your survival

BlueTemplar4059d ago

You say this as though you have ever played an uncharted game in your miserable pathetic life.

Linsolv4059d ago

It's possible that it got much better in 2 and 3, but I thought it felt like a cop-out to skip the first game in the series, and when I played that, it was incredibly predictable and paced like they thought I wanted to ride a roller coaster instead. I frankly couldn't finish it because it was a weak story packed into a game I wasn't really enjoying.

I'm sure some people like that, but I think the Michael Bay approach is hurting gaming--not helping.

BlueTemplar4059d ago

@Linsolv A fair comment, a lot of people will genuinely prefer tomb raider to uncharted.

If youve ever seen any of this guys other posts though, you'll see that he clearly wont have played uncharted (as its one of those nasty sony games), and is just trolling.

BlueTemplar4058d ago (Edited 4058d ago )

"Reveiwers say Tomb Raider is better in every way possible."

Metacritic (an aggregation of review scores):

Tomb Raider: 86/87 (depending on platform)
Uncharted: 80
Uncharted 2: 96
Uncharted 3: 92

I see as ever, you arent letting nasty old facts get in the way of a good sony bash.

Ezz20134053d ago (Edited 4053d ago )

uncharted 1 is 88 not 80 BTW
http://www.metacritic.com/g...
which also higher than all TR versions

and i don't know what reviews he's talking about too

and even then the best version of TR on consoles is ps3 version
http://www.eurogamer.net/ar...

all above are facts

and he indeed never touched an UC game or ps3 before so don't mind him

BlueTemplar4053d ago

@Ezz2013

Ah yeah my bad - I was looking at the score for Golden Abyss instead of Drakes Fortune :)

HorrorGod4059d ago (Edited 4059d ago )

Indiana Jones movies + A female protagonist = Tomb Raider (1996)
Indiana Jones movies + Tomb Raider (1996) = Uncharted series.
Uncharted series + Tomb Raider (1996) = Tomb Raider (2013)

And in all honesty, there is not a whole lot of similarities between the Uncharted/Tomb Raider games, other than them both being treasure hunters. Both are original in their own ways. Both have something to offer.

xXxSeTTriPxXx4059d ago (Edited 4059d ago )

Tomb raider plays nothing like uncharted.going in I thought it would but trust me when I say they are two completely different experiences.uncharted is great and tomb raider is back to greatness.I guess this article was bound happen but its pointless, they're nothing alike besides jumping and treasure and even those elements are'nt the same.

The Best Tomb Raider Games Ranked

We've gone on many adventures with Lara Croft. With another reboot in the making, Wealth of Geeks felt it was a good time to go down the nostalgia rabbit hole and remember the best of those tomb-raiding thrills.

I do agree that Tomb Raider Angel of Darkness was the worse one 😂 I remember playing some of it and I took it back. That game was just awful in every way. I bought it used at gamestop and glad they had that 7 day return policy for used games 😂

Pyrofire9555d ago

Would it be worth saying why?

ZeekQuattro55d ago

Simple. He's been hating on the Tomb Raider reboots for years. I can't imagine seeing them at the top of a best TR game list let alone being on the list in general sitting well with him because of it.

-Foxtrot55d ago

Zeek

“Hating”

No no, just pointing out how TR mutated into a generic action adventure game losing the appeal of what it once was when it was more about puzzles and platforming over going Rambo, slaughtering waves of enemies

But hey, continue being a dick and speaking about me like I’m not going to see the comment.

MeatyUrologist54d ago

Foxtrot, I'm curious if you have played the most recent games. Sure the 2013 reboot was hugely focused on combat, but each follow up became less and less about combat to the point where outside of a few large scale story missions I don't even remember combat being a part of shadow of the tomb raider. Shadow was so puzzle focused it actually was a bit much for me and I love the TR puzzles.

I still feel like Rise was the best of the series and I was a huge fan of the originals. To me it struck the perfect balance of exploration, platforming, puzzles, and combat. Not saying your opinion is wrong I'm just curious what you think they should have done different. Games do need to evolve somewhat to stay relevant. Would you prefer small linear jumping platform levels like the original?

RavenWolfx55d ago

I would agree Rise for 1 and the reboot as 2. Shadow is a bit high, though.

Sonic188155d ago (Edited 55d ago )

I think Shadow wasn't even develop by crystal dynamics. I thought it was the worse in the new trilogy

Pyrofire9555d ago

That's right. Shadow was developed by Eidos Montreal who who went and made Marvels Guardians of the Galaxy next. (Great game)
Meanwhile after Rise of the Tomb Raider, Crystal Dynamics made Marvels Avengers. (bad game)

MeatyUrologist55d ago

Agrees. First two are correct but Shadow should be around 5-6.

terstomp55d ago

For me, Legend should be alot higher (along with the other two ). Shadow, I enjoyed it, but has too much has fluff, as modern games tend to do. Playing the remastered series, and apart from the controls, is very good.

jznrpg55d ago

I really enjoyed the first 2 games, Legend and the first of the reboots and the rest I didn’t get into so I never finished.

robtion55d ago

Completely subjective list. I really liked Underworld, I preferred Lara's design. That said I loved the horror/uncharted feel of the reboot. I think all the TR games have strengths and weaknesses. None are objectively better in every way.
