It is a ridiculously good title, not just for the Tomb Raider franchise but for games in general.

The developers deserve every ounce of success they get, as it's a brilliant game and one of the most refined in terms of gameplay mechanics that I've played in years.

Playing as Lara Croft is also just as good, if not better than playing as Nathan Drake or some other highly publicised male protagonist (coming from a male gamer).

Tomb Raider 2013 is just a plainly fun overall experience and surprisingly also a deeply engaging and emotional one.

It's good that this title is selling well, seeing as they have put a good effort on making something good. What I'm afraid of, as with any large publisher is the game being rehashed year after year. It would not surprise me to see a half hearted "sequel" come out early next year.

I miss the old puzzles while exploring Tombs all over the world...there was hardly any puzzles in this game and the ones that were in were really, really easy. I mean optional tombs...come on they shouldn't be optional in a TR game. Just stop with the over the top near death cutscenes/explosions....your Lara Croft not Nathan Drake.

The only main criticism about the reboot though is the voice actress who did Lara. She was ok in normal conversation but when she's screaming, in agony, in pain, yelling (things which are in the game alot)....any time she was showing emotion basically, it sounded terrible.

The voice acting, character development and set pieces aren't as top notch as the ones in Uncharted but honestly the only reason I'm interested in this game is because of the more gritty and dark approach to the story. Wasn't planning to get it but been watching play through video and honestly I'm intrigued so getting it tomorrow for sure since it's Friday.

The voice acting is really weak. They picked the wrong women to play her I hope they change her voice actress in the next TR game. I mean it dosen't go very well with the dark, gritty theme of the game when you have the main character sound...well like a 13 year old. Even that bit where she said "I hate Tombs" was so cringe worthy just because of the way she said it in that voice.

I just hope they try and separate it from Uncharted though because a lot, and I mean alot of the set pieces in the game where she would have to escape an exploding bridge or house, fall and slide down a hill or holding onto to things on a collapsing building seemed too much like Uncharted. I mean for trying to be realistic they added a lot of escaping from death by luck moments over and over. Plus for being new to guns she was like a tank taking out wave after wave of enemies.

I really hope for the sequel they start the game off with her training at home, like the events of this game made her want more and made her want to keep training herself. She could have a gymnasium or a shooting range in her mansion.

I did like though how she kept talking to herself trying to pull herself together, it really got inside her state of mind....something I wish we had with Chell in Portal 2.

Oh and they need to scrap regen health in the sequel, bring back med kits.

For a sequel they must scrap health regen or introduce a "Hardcore" mode with the said feature. Furthermore, I highly sugget fans raised on this title to try out te older titles. Sure they're old but the missions are fantastic! Got a Vita? Buy a couple of them from the PS Store.

nah, I really like this Tomb Raider "reboot", the gameplay/fighting mechanics are good, story is interesting, deaths are brutal but most of all Lara feels like a real explorer who's learning the ropes so to speak, of course she survives some situations and falls that are really unrealistic, and of course simple things like she would freeze half to death climbing that radio tower in a tank top, lol, but overall I thought the voice acting and all her agonizing screams of pain were pretty well done= although I'm not finished, only about half way through the game.

That's cool, but I found the first 3 Tomb Raiders incredibly clunky and Angel of Darkness was the purest form of crap to ever wear short shorts.

The argument can be made that I'm ignorant since I haven't played any of the Tomb Raiders on the 360/PS3, and I will accept that. But the idea of a Tomb Raider being more then a random blip on my radar died so long ago that something was kind of required for it to stick in my mind as something I should play.

Who knows maybe after this I'll go dig up Anniversary, Legend and Underworld. Have the 3 available on current Gen platforms stuck to the formula of the original TR run?

The worst thing about the game for me was Lara Croft.
Her voice actor is terrible and everything sounded forced and like a fake British accent. Some of the dialogue was really bad. I'm not sure if the Americans can really tell the difference (not meant as an insult) but if you're in the UK you can definitely tell when someone is trying to sound English. (Apparently the voice actor has an English/American hybrid accent! :/

Also the Tombs were a huge let down, they were all practically the same and way to easy.
Last but not least the action sequences that resembled Uncharted WAY to closely weren't even needed at all and just furthered the feeling that this wasn't a Tomb Raider game anymore.
Still, it is a great game in it's own right and deserves the praise, you can see the effort that's been put into the game. I just miss old Lara Croft (not looks wise) but her attitude and her rich English girl accent that sounded really hot lol.

Lets Start remaking the others, the more "puzzle" adventure games from the pc/ps1 era. Redo the Stories a little bit, keep the top notch voice acting, add a little more danger and suspense to the cave exploring.

Hell, in Tomb Raider 2 the opening scene where she climbs down the ladder, they could make it like Crysis where she halos out of a plane or something and has to hit a mark.

So many ways they could make those games that I remember even greater.

Same here. I was kinda scared myself just thinking about Square Enix handling studios outside of Japan but they are doing an amazing job so far. Batman games are awesome and now Lara Croft is back in town like she should.

Cystal Dynamics/Square Enix did a spectacular job in putting Lara Croft and the Tomb Raider Series back from a monotonous past and spicing it up big time.

I've seem what happens to good games when people have preconceived expectations. Most people accepted the new Tomb Raider... and that's good. What wasn't so good was that DMC got raked over for not being same as it's previous iterations.

I was just thinking that. Somehow Tomb Raider gets a free pass for changing it's formula, but other games change their formula and people are like "WHAT THE HELL DID THEY DO TO MY FAVORITE FRANCHISE!!!"

It probably has to do with the state of the series itself. The first few games were good though, after a point, quality started dipping. Only the last few releases were seen as quality games. With the last to be released (not counting the new reboot, obviously) not even trying to be similar to the past games.
With Devil May Cry, only two left a sour taste in people's mouths. Three is a lot of people's favorites, where 4, while weak in some areas, was still enjoyed by many.

I don't know though, personally. I appreciate both reboots of these series and consider them both quality games. Hell, I haven't even touched a game in the Tomb Raider series, but I have been looking forward to this one since they originally showed gameplay of it.

Already finished it with 100%. It was good and a lot of fun. But it felt more action packed than other Tomb Raiders. Uncharted is closer to the old TR feeling than this, but this is still a very good and fun game. They do deserve it.

This game is pretty incredible, graphically it looks superb the amount of detail in the environment is amazing. The controls feel great,Lara's development throughout the game is done extremely well, Tomb Raider is very cinematic with some truly epic and jaw dropping scenes and uses a minimalist Hud which is also something I absolutely love about this game. The pacing is also spot on allowing for you to wander off a bit and explore secret tombs and find hidden items while still progressing forward through the story. You have plenty of incentive to collect salvage and such to upgrade your abilities and weapons and as mentioned earlier the island looks so damn good you'll want to explore everywhere you can.I was expecting a good game when I picked up Tomb Raider but didn't really think it would be this good. I'm impressed and extremely happy to see a reboot of this caliber especially with a gaming icon such as lara croft. I'm glad to see it's selling well, If you haven't already do yourself a favor and go pick up this game you will not regret it.

I was going to dismiss this game because i thought it was a complete rip off of uncharted but due to all the positive reviews im willing to give this game a chance.

It is better than I initially thought, the first hour or so put me off - too hand holding, too many QTE and cutscenes, but thankfully it does open out into a really good game after that.

It still has a couple of REALLY annoying pieces (non spoiler but lets say a couple hard to control + wobbly cam 'set pieces' when you can end up spiked to death even though you can barely see what's going on) - other than it has a good bit of exploring, but it's not your old style tomb raider, but fun anyway and has some lovely graphics in places (even just on my PS3) - more realistic/gritty than Uncharted but not quite as technically impressive (nor as slick controls/gunplay) but it's a good game.

This definitely feels like it took a lot of hints from the Uncharted series, but I look at that as a GOOD thing.

Please don't try to tell me that Uncharted copied Tomb Raider because the old Tomb Raiders were not third person shooters and they played nothing like Uncharted.

That being said... I don't know whether I've just played Uncharted 2/3 way too much or perhaps Tomb Raider is doing it BETTER than Uncharted ever has. I like the open-ness of Tomb Raider and the bow is just about the coolest weapon EVER!

This game is far better than I expected. Whenever Gamestop aired their stupid pre-order commercials for the game, I thought, wow this looks like crap. It wasn't until I saw the game on Conan's Clueless Gamer and was impressed. I love this game. And I'm a huge Uncharted fan. This game is great.

I'm pleased for their success and its a great game but I hope crystal dynamics don't look at the sales figures and assume its down to the increase in combat because for me it's more the quality of the product and the refined gameplay. For the series to continue long term they definitely need more tombs and puzzling in the sequel though. The combat is great, but games that exist only for combat are ten a penny these days.

I really hope they don't screw it up with the sequel and can see what's needed to be done, and if they get it right they will have a series on their hands that could last another 10-15 years.

hmm I feel conflicted on this game on its own merit I would give it a 9/10. However as a Tomb Raider game I felt it was lacking a lot the puzzles are way to easy I beat this game with out getting stuck once. The iconic dual pistols you get to use for a total of 5 seconds. I was hoping you would at least get to use them after you beat the game. There is no underwater swimming or levers or timing switches in this game. It was turned into more of a straight 3rd person shooter then what Tomb Raider was about.

I also felt the gore in this game was way over the top. The gears of war style kill scenes when you unlock weapon finishers were just so out of touch I dunno.
