7 Disappointing Games That Broke Epic Promises

AlienLion:

2005 – 2013, or the seventh generation of gaming (let’s call it that), was certainly fun but it will probably not be remembered for its’ lack of disappointments. Plenty of releases did not live up to expectations, and others never happened at all. I bet that nobody is as bothered by this fact as the developers themselves. After all, they spent years of their lives working on something that either sucks or will never see the light of day. I feel for them, too, because they can’t always help things, but there are some instances where they need to be called out, and that’s when they completely over-promise and under-deliver. So, let’s do just that, by listing the seven biggest broken promises of this particular period in gaming.

Lol, I knew Aliens: CM would be on this list the second that I read the title. I also loved the 'full retard' reference XD

After reading this, I do have to admit that these games didn't (to varying degrees) live up to their promises. Not that they are bad (at least not all of them), but still.

mandf4068d ago

Totally disagree with gt5. That game has more in it for a $60 game than 99% of the games released this gen. Not to mention if you don't play it with a steering wheel you are playing it wrong.

NotSoSilentBob4068d ago

GT5 definitely is ripped by the media for no reason. If people actually play it with a Wheel you find out how the game far exceeded anything else out there on consoles.

maximaz4068d ago

As Killrate said, it's not that they are bad games. GT5 wasn't bad by any means but it did not live up to the promises. I enjoyed the game and yeah it exceeded other console racers in many ways but it wasn't a big step up from Prologue.

2pacalypsenow4068d ago (Edited 4068d ago )

GT5 could have never lived up to the expectation, It is too masive of a game . They had two options delay it until its finished maybe a 2011-2012 release, or release it how it was released.
Both ways would get a backlash, im happy with the way it was released

IcicleTrepan4068d ago

How about just about every Fable game

maximaz4068d ago

The first one is famous for that but the other two not so much.

RespectedDesperado4068d ago

Least those games came out, what about Final Fantasy Versus XIII.

If this is true, I hope it leads to Morrowind getting remade next.

-Foxtrot4d ago

I thought they’d go for Morrowind first to be honest but this is a welcoming surprise to tide us over before ES6

TheColbertinator4d ago

Well said. Exactly my thoughts too.

Tedakin4d ago

Unreal Engine isn't efficient for open world games, so I question the reliability of this story.

isarai4d ago

Yeah, 1st thing that came to my mind too, although i CAN see it being likely for ease if use, but it's not going to run very well if so

Tacoboto4d ago (Edited 4d ago )

I'd wonder if it would just be exploiting Unreal for graphics but the underlying engine/logic is still the original framework.

Like how we had the graphical remakes of Halo Anniversary, Tomb Raider I-III, and Demon's Souls.

Could also end up a disaster like the GTA Trilogy

mkis0074d ago

I have heard that too but even if it's modified isnt arkham knight UE?

Fragslayer3d ago

"remake will run both an Unreal Engine 5 project and the old Oblivion project. For instance, new graphics are rendered in the Unreal Engine 5 project, but most of the gameplay and physics are still done on the original Oblivion engine"

So with this logic it'll run just fine using UE5 tool sets on top of Gamebryo's engine or maybe even Creation Engine, who knows.

Hopefully modders can fix the aged combart in this game if this is true. Enemies leveling up with you broke and defeated the whole purpose of leveling up.

Fragslayer3d ago

Yeah it could use some tuning for sure hence the need for a Remake not a Remaster. I'm surprised it's even a conversation within them group which makes me skeptical it's Oblivion. I wouldn't say they shouldn't level up at all though maybe just a leave them a couple levels behind to appease the masses.

Cyberpunk and No Man's Sky have to be up there. We're lucky and cursed, equally, to have games that can be updated now. For folks old enough to remember the Sega/SNES into PS1 and even 2 eras, if a game came out that was half baked (*cough*Angel of Darkness*cough*) that was it, no redemption. At the same time, having the option for updates shouldn't be an excuse for half assing games.

thorstein84d ago

I remember when the Nintendo Seal of Approval meant something.

All those games had to release without bugs.

shinoff218384d ago

Comebacks shouldnt be a thing in videogames. Just saying.
