The fact that Microsoft have been quiet for so long is starting to get me worried about all of these rumors. It could mean that these rumors are true for MS and if they are, Sony can win it.

GalacticEmpire4069d ago (Edited 4069d ago )

If the rumour about MS blocking used games isn't true then why don't they just come out and say it?

zerocrossing4069d ago (Edited 4069d ago )

True or not no company cares to talk about used games in any light and if ever they do so it is only in a negative, that being said MS is the more likely of the 3 to attempt to block used games, IMO.

JoySticksFTW4069d ago (Edited 4069d ago )

I personally think MS would be crazy to be the only company to block used games.

People used to PC gaming are used to this practice, but their games are also a lot cheaper and they don't need to pay for Live to play the same games online.

Primarily console users with games starting at $70-60 at launch are gonna flip out. I hardly buy Day 1 anymore, due to price and dlc that will be added a year later in the goty edition.

And console pricing on downloadable games are insane. How is Oblivion's Shimmering Isles dlc still priced at $30 on PSN for example?

If they want to block used games, then we need better (lower) pricing to ease the blow.

Whoa, rant alert! I'm gonna stop myself here. But one more thing.

I hate that "list of 10 things, only one thing a page" stuff. Bah...

And I'm done :D

Godmars2904069d ago

Making online officially mandatory, when its all but required now, would be the real issue. They'd directly be alienating consumers with either no or bad connections. That's even with them making the Xbox a cable box, which will likely also come at the additional cost of a cable and/or internet provider. Specific ones at that.

miDnIghtEr20C_SfF4068d ago

it's not just MS and Sony that's going to block the games... they're going to be open to all of it imo. they'll let the game makers choose to block a used game or not. that way both sony and ms don't look like the bad guys, but the game companies will. and if you want that game, you're going to buy it new no matter what!

Im still interested in seeing what MS has to offer for next gen, but if it's going to be Kinect 2 and blocking used games then count me out for supporting them.

Athonline4069d ago

Balmer (current CEO of MS) said they got a new strategy in terms of product announcement in an interview. Instead of announcing products in advance, they will try to adopt a more Apple-like approach. Announcing things and then releasing them asap....

I can't remember where I read it however.

In any case time will tell! :-)

GalacticEmpire4069d ago

I hope this is true, we could be playing in April :D

I just hope they don't rush the hardware along to make the dealine, no need to say why.

Athonline4069d ago

@GalacticEmpire

I doubt it will be April, but I wouldn't be surprised for near-to E3 announcement and release September/October if they will try to beat PS4's release...

dcbronco4069d ago

Microsoft has been saying that for a few years now. Or something similar. Not announcing games that would release two or three years later but instead talking about what was happening in the next year.

shutUpAndTakeMyMoney4069d ago

Lol why people disagree?

"Microsoft CEO sees company becoming more like Apple"

http://www.reuters.com/arti...

Lol and now windows phone, surface & server is failing! lmao.. Just like Gabe Newell said it would.

Athonline4069d ago (Edited 4069d ago )

@shutUpAndTakeMyMoney

Some people are taking things to serious when it comes to their favourite brand...

EDIT:
Thanks for the link! :-)

Cueil4069d ago

The Government still uses Microsoft Servers so they will continue to do well

Athonline4069d ago

@Cueil

Where did I say MS won't do well or anythign similar? :P

I understand the companies blocking used games (I don't like it, but I understand), my concern is the reliability of the consoles and if they start failing like this gen what would I do to now with all the games.

Imagine of the 360 and ps3 blocked used games.

stage884069d ago

I think that only really applies to the 360.
The PS3 and Wii have a very low rate of failure.

KwietStorm_BLM4069d ago

That's not the point. All electronics are susceptible to failure. What do you do with your games if your console breaks, is the question.

spoonard4069d ago

What happens when your game is blocked on all consoles except the one it's registered to and that console over heats or fails in some manner? Transferring the licenses will be pain in the ass for both the consumers and Microsoft.

dcbronco4069d ago

I understand the concern about reliability. But I wouldn't be as worried when you consider the 720 has been in the works since 2006. I doubt they won't have those problems taken care of this time.

Godchild10204069d ago (Edited 4069d ago )

Where did you hear the next Xbox was being worked on since 2006? I know the PS4 was being worked on since 2008 or 5 years before the announcement.

dcbronco4069d ago (Edited 4069d ago )

It's been talked about several times in various interviews. Ballmer said that started right after the 360 was launched. People have just forgotten that people have said it. Gamers are no different than the general public. A politician says something and 3 months later no one remembers it. Where did you hear the PS4 has been in development since 2008?

Here's a couple of article. There have been several.

http://www.dailytech.com/ar...

http://www.nytimes.com/2006...

greenpowerz4069d ago (Edited 4069d ago )

PS3 fanboys always think if it's for the xbox it's not likely...

See in this article where the PS3 fanbys voted this article down because they couldn't believe or accept MSFT putting these specs on a console
http://n4g.com/news/1151169...

They dismissed these rumored 720 specs as ridiculous for a console and would be something MSFT would never do because PS4 specs were rumored to be inferior or lacking around the web at that time.

Now that Sony announced simular specs they claimed a console maker wouldn't put in a console when they thought Sony wouldn't match these rumored specs, what they said before doesn't matter yet they still run around sure of what MSFT can and can not do. Running around sure what MSFT has or does not have.

240 votes in the article I linked saying no way in hell would a console maker would put an 8 core CPU with 8 gigs of ram in a console(because PS4 was rumored to have 4 gigs)just becuase MSFT had these specs.

Every excuse to make these specs look like foolish overkill a console maker would never do was used in my link. Eeverything from cost *to* the console using 8 gigs of ram being too much for video gaames anyhow! Simply because no Sony rumors had these specs during that time.

BlueTemplar4069d ago

@dcbronco "Where did you hear the PS4 has been in development since 2008?"

It was stated at the PS4 reveal by Sony themselves.

BlueTemplar4069d ago

LOL at the disagree

Hows disagreeing with cold hard facts working out for you in real life? Real good I hope

ThatXboxGuy4069d ago

Bronco..

Neither of those links confirm anything.
First link just vaguely mentions they are looking into the future of xbox (shocker)

2nd link is just mumbo jumbo about nothing relative.

dcbronco4069d ago

So hiring people to develop a chip for the console doesn't constitute working on the console? At what point does it mean they are working on it. But while neither of those is specific, MS execs have said plainly that they started working on the next Xbox soon after the 360 was released. If you've been on the internet long you know how hard it is to find specific quotes. I got general for you.

(Rumor only) i think Gears will go mp this gen. i think Epic likes the new PS4 spec. this is a perfect time for Epic to reach COD status "Sales wise" Only!

GamingWorldPeace4069d ago

Hell yea, Gears was the only reason I got an X360. Now, if it is on PS4 as well, there is no need for me to even think about getting the Durango to play with Cole Train and company. As I recalled, Epic owns the IP and the deal with Microsoft was only for 3 games.

dmonee4069d ago

I don't thin Gears can go MP. From what I know, MS owns the rights to GEars. Epic only being the developer. It would be awesome if I'm wrong though.

dakunclear4069d ago

no Epic came out and said they themselves the rights to gears of war. I'll post a short interview with them about it.

If Epic Games wants Gears of War to be released on the PS3, it has the power to make it happen.

One of the biggest exclusive franchises for the Xbox 360 has been Gears of War, with a third installment expected in September 2011. Contrary to what might be popular belief, Epic Games chooses to keep the popular shooter on Microsoft's console, and is not forced to do so.

Speaking to IndustryGamers, Epic Games president Mike Capps said: "Do we wish we could take all those Killzone [players] and Resistance fans on PS3, and get them to say Gears is awesome'? Yeah, sure I'd love to ship the Gears trilogy on PlayStation ... I want to be there; I want to be everywhere."

Capps confirmed that Gears of War is Epic's IP, but said that Microsoft makes an exclusive partnership very worthwhile. "Time and time again, when it came down to figure out what we do next with Gears, we sat down with Microsoft and they've given us really good, compelling reasons to work with them again," he added.

When Epic Games was just, in Capps' words, the "Unreal studio," Microsoft took a chance and used Gears of War to help launch the Xbox 360. It marketed the series, helped test it, and has generally both saved and made Epic money.

But is it enough money to keep Gears of War off of the PS3 forever? Capps seems to indicate a desire to share the experience with PS3 owners. Perhaps the inevitable Gears of War 4 will go multi-platform someday.

http://www.escapistmagazine...

thats the website that this came from

dmonee4069d ago

I stand corrected. Well, I hope they buck the trend, Stick it to MS and not only release Gears on the PS4, but also back log the rest for DL on PS network. How bout that for using the power of attraction from the universe.

Steadyhndz4069d ago

If blocking used games, and always having to be online are actual features of the new Xbox...Sony will win this. However, this doesn't mean the new Xbox won't sell well.

DarkZane4069d ago

Sony already debunked 3 of those rumors.

They said used games would be allowed in an interview.

Sony said you can play games offline with no internet connections.

Sony said games would be 60$. So EA can't price games at 70$ originally, unless they were limited editions, which they were already pricing at 70$ for the first print (for example, Need for Speed Hot pursuit 2010 was 69.99$ at launch, which quickly went down once limited edition was out of there)

Also, I am pretty sure digital video recording and live streaming (1st and 2nd rumor) are already confirmed to be features on PS4.

mushroomwig4069d ago

'They said used games would be allowed in an interview. '

That still remains to be seen;

http://arstechnica.com/gami...

Ayabrea1234069d ago

They said it will not blocked used games. The media has been trying to find conspiracy in the statement by saying that the tone sounded unsure. Jack tretton and Yoshida has countless of times said that the use game market and using physical media is still preferred choice... I don't understand why so many are questioning that reasoning

TMNT Arcade: Wrath of the Mutants review - Games Asylum

Games Asylum: "Well, this is neat. As the name suggests, Wrath of the Mutants is the rarest of things – a genuine arcade conversion. With most modern arcade games being ticket redemption machines, this is something seldom seen. In fact, the last arcade conversion we can recall was Raw Thrill’s own Cruis’n’ Blast on Switch back in 2021. This is also based on an older iteration of TMNT, harking back to the series from 2012-2017. It’s essentially breaking franchise continuity (we’ve had two different iterations of the Turtles since) and could even be considered nostalgic for a select few – those who grew up with 2012’s Turtles are probably in their late teens."
