It’s Time for 3D Mario to Return to a Proper Hub World on Wii U

GenGAME writes: "One of the most common fan requests for the next 3D Mario title is a true blue full-blown hub world, after the legendary pattern of Peach’s Castle from Super Mario 64 or the Delfino Plaza in Super Mario Sunshine. The more “level-select” oriented direction seen in the hubs of the Galaxy games or the “World Map” in Super Mario 3D Land just don’t cut it.

"It’s not so much that the lack of impressive hub worlds keeps those latter titles from being great games. It’s just that having better hubs would make them feel more like the great games that they are."

I agree, I'd love for them to go back to a hub world similar to Sunshine or 64.

no way u earned all those bubbles, you cheater

Snookies124072d ago

Lol, I was surprised at how many I was getting as well. :]

Erimgard4072d ago

This is exactly what I want for an overworld experience in the next 3D Mario.

Kevlar0094072d ago

YES. I missed finding secret areas in the Hub world, one of my favorite aspects of games like Sonic Adventure or Mario Sunshine.

It's lazy to put out a Mario 3 kind of layout for a full 3D game

ChickeyCantor4072d ago

I wouldn't call it lazy. I personally preferred the Galaxy 2 map over the first one. As It makes the level selection faster and more accessible.

Sure there are no secrets, but personally never cared for it much.

legendoflex4072d ago

Ideally, I like the idea of having both. Within a "world," you can access any level from a fast-travel style "map" select screen, or explore at your leisure.

I kinda want to see something new from Ninty. Love mario and I'm sure his 3d adventure on Wii U will be a good one. Can I get a Project Hammer with open world goodness?

Did you even read the article?

kirbyu4072d ago

I just prefer the levels being set out on a map like in Super Mario World, not a place you can walk around like in Super Mario 64.

My top 3 are Mario 3, Mario World and Mario 64. Mario Odyssey is also excellent, and I enjoyed Sunshine but didn't care for the Galaxy series.

If they ever did I hope they would add onto it, there's so much you could do with Princess Peach's castle alone

roadkillers75d ago

Or just make the Mario 128... the cancelled sequel that sounded amazing (or was it just an amazing tale).

fr0sty75d ago

Funny that after all these years, we still use 64 bit CPUs, so it wouldn't make sense to call it that.

fr0sty75d ago

Yeah, a straight remake doesn't sound good to me. Same formula, but different game.

Number1TailzFan76d ago

Each level is pretty small today in the original game, I don't like huge levels but I think they could be at least 2x bigger, or close to it and more of them, with more things to do.

They could do a mix of having open levels and more linear ones like in 3D World or Land, I doubt they will do that but it would make a change.

Neonridr75d ago

I mean Odyssey's levels weren't massive, but requiring you to do different things in each world is what made the levels feel bigger than they were.

ZeekQuattro76d ago

I'd prefer a Oydessey 2 or Galaxy 3. Besides the DS
game was a Mario 64 remake complete with more playable characters, stages, bosses and muti player content.

Cacabunga75d ago (Edited 75d ago )

I did not like Odyssey i found the idea of ot lame.. i find it boring to just look for moons instead of exploring and enjoying the levels. Let’s not talk about the extremely repetitive and ridiculously easy bosses. Level design is so meh most of the time. Galaxy 2 is a far better game so Galaxy 3 anytime!!!

TiredGamer75d ago

Agreed. I enjoyed Odyssey for a while, but it quickly became very formulaic where each level felt like a checklist of things to do with WAY too many moons to find. The Galaxy series were the best, as they took some of what made 64 great and juiced it up perfectly.

Yes! Let's release an almost 30 year old game to kick off the next generation for Nintendo...
I'm over re-releases...FEED ME NEW MARIO!
